Unless you frequent Facebook or a message board like this, you're not going to know about the oil issue until it's too late, sellers aren't going to say it up front that this issue exists, and buyers aren't going to know to ask unless they come to a site like this or see HT's Facebook page and find out the problems exist. I'm sure not all collectors live on the net, so many will buy this figure just on it's visual quality, which is worth the prices it's fetching.

Anyone unaware of the issue would probably never notice anyway. They might see that a couple of the ab plates were slightly darker in places, but I doubt the average buyer would consider it a defect or waste much time thinking about it.

I would actually say that depends on the extend of the residue. On one of mine it's only the two lower plates and it takes 2-3 days to get wet ish. The other batboy it's all 4 plates and they all get nice glossy wet within a day so I think anyone will notice the latter case but the first batboy may get away with not being noticed. Anyone paying this amount should love the hobby enough to pay attention to detail not just on the first day. I may may not have noticed the ears being off but this is too obvious to dismiss

is there such a thing as an average buyer when it comes to hot toys? no...hot toys are bought by collectors and all collectors will notice this fault...

Go to the Michael Jackson threads. That figure is increasing interest in the none collectors and MJ fans who just want every piece of merch with his face on it. I agree most HT collectors are already toy/comic book collectors anyway and like things perfect.

I have to agree with this comment. IMHO for a $150+ a figure the average HT consumer is likely someone who is a diehard and/or serious collector rather than a casual customer.

I have an order for the DC batch and if this doesnt get resolved I wont be buying. As cool as the figure is Im not gonna deal with wiping off oil or whatever.

thats a shame really coz the figure looks amazing. mine shud be here sometime in the next week and if it leaks then ..meh..ill just wipe it off lol. i love Batman too much to pass on the ultimate fig

I also have an order for the DC batch....and I agree with you 100% if this is not resolved I won't be making this purchase. I don't begrudge anyone for electing to purchase this figure and electing to "deal" with the oil issue. But personally, for the amount of cash this figure costs having to deal with the oil issue would limit my enjoyment.

Lastly, I don't want to send the message to HT that it's ok for their products to have this type of defect. At the end of the day it all comes down to the bottom line. If HT feels like this oil issue will not negatively impact their bottom line then they have no incentive to rectify the situation. Worse, they may have no incentive to proactively prevent it from happening with future figures.

Taylorc I agree with you 100%. I have mine ordered through the DC batch so hopefully mine will be fine. The people at HT are probably in their offices sitting back and saying "eh who cares if it's leaking oil. Look people are still buying it! We dont need to fix it. It's ok."

I'm really disappointed in how HT is handling this problem. What I hope is that they have resolved this problem with the DC batch and that's that. It would suck if they did and did nothing about the earlier batches. But better late than never.

This whole oil issue is getting really annoying. My Batman only had a tiny amount of oil when I first got him, and it stayed that way for weeks. Now the whole of the bottom two armor plates of his chest are a shiny wet black. The oil is not bubbling or leaking but the colour contrast between the plates above the bottom two is quite apparent.
Now I have noticed that it has started to effect the rims of the armor above the effected area. I hope it is not going to spread onto them as well. I dab the oil as often as I can but to little avail.
Its such a shame, because the figure is amazing and if there was no oil problem the DX Batman would probably be my favourite Hot Toys figure.

I opened mine about a month ago and there was a little area that had some "oil" on it and then put it away back in its box in the upright position, just checked it last night and the same are was slightly moist ohh er but no significant oily area, might try laying the box flat to see if it makes any difference.

No worries though.

Just got mine 2 days ago, oily abs out of the box. Not just the abs, the kevlar parts on his arms gets oily as well. sigh.... Incidentally, any tips on how to remove the backpack, mine's on pretty tight.

Gently but firmly push down on the shoulder parts while simultaneously lifting the bottom part of the back-pack away from the body.
You just need to be confident and firm whilst using gentle small controlled movements. If in doubt give it a small blast from a hair dryer, but mine went on and came off fine without the need for heat.

Just remember that the backpack has clips on the very bottom edge that snaps into the shoulderblade pads of your Bat from underneath. So pushing the entire backpack a few mm releases those clips and thats when you can swing the backpack out from the bottom. Works everytime for me quite easily ones you remember how it is held together in the first place

I think we have been very understanding and patient but should push for an answer and resolution now. We don't need to be vulgar but we need to apply some more pressure as nothing useful has come from HT yet :(

What else are you going to do? Facebook posts and emails just get the usual generic BS response. Other than shipping the figure to them with a big note taped to the abs saying fix this ____ing problem, I don't know how much clearer and more forceful you can really get, all the pictures people have sent, and they still treat people complaining about it like they're idiots that don't know how to wipe away residue or take off shipping tape from the belt.
