Re: 1-6th X-wing project

Been really busy lately but unfortunately not with 1-6th.

Anyway I NEED HELP!

I have nearly finished the cockpit by making the pipe work behind the seat.

The questions are:
1. Do I leave it all grey (which I love, or do I paint it up).
2. If I paint it up, what colours, or do I just paint up some bits?
3. Do I just paint up the buttons and dials?

I find these sort of questions harder than actually building the chuffin thing.

4. Finally, I think it looks a bit silly with a short rear end and NO wings? What do you guys think?

Help me.... you are my only hope.

Cheers. What do you mean my plate it? Do u mean add all the panels on the body. What do you suggest using for that, is was thinking of using thin styrene.

Re: 1-6th X-wing project

yeah, styrene would be the easiest to work with. i wouldn't go too thin though taking scale into account. What is the ship made of?

Re: 1-6th X-wing project

Just had to use what I had, so I used hardboard, so much cheaper than styrene.
I have just drawn up the wings!!! Massive, 1.7m span, each wing would be 1.5-2cm thick, LOL its gonna weigh a ton, think I might leave it as it is!

Any more advice would be great Kaiburr, and what's your thoughts on the cockpit, leave it grey?

Re: 1-6th X-wing project

I would paint the flat areas black. Maybe a wash over the relief areas to bring out the nooks and crannies...Amazing work again man!!!

Cheers Arnax, I think you are right, if I put a thin black wash over the cockpit area and try to bring out the deatail alittle. Then I think I will add a little colour to some of the buttons.

Re: 1-6th X-wing project

Just make sure you let the wash dry first or it gets a little messy!
And when you dry brush remember almost no paint on the brush

cheers, I will try it and see what happens. Have you got any examples so I know what I am aiming to achieve. Some of the stuff I have been looking at it totally amazing, think a lot of it is airbrushed.

Re: 1-6th X-wing project

Id get your hands on a TOMY Mini helm (thats if your prepared to cut into the headsculpt)

Those Hasbro helms that come with the figure dont do it justice, Ive got one here for putting on a luke sculpt, however I decided I didnt want luke in his flight suit I was gonna wait for SSC to produce one. So if you want it you can have it for £3.00 plus postage (the straps been cut on 1 side btw)

I bought one for Wedge and did cut into his sculpt heres the result :

Yeah sure, not the best examples (but on topic) :monkey1 I could have got them cleaner but I really liked the way it worked on these models

Re: 1-6th X-wing project

I've got a resize image program, it's set into my windows right click. With one click I can choose 4 settings instantly.
Set up for forums etc..

Re: 1-6th X-wing project

Wow Dorgmal, "Impressive, most impressive..."
I got some PVC pipe and other various fittings for my moisture vaporator...I will be posting pictures soon. This environment piece I am planning will have a 12 inch diameter sand coated base. I plan on using it for all sorts of displays, especially that sandtrooper SS just announced. I am also thinking about a Cloud City weather vane that could be mounted on the wall...It would make for a very dynamic display when the Vader arrives from Sideshow, recreating the "...I am your father" moment. When I get the experience from making the sand base for my current project, I would like to try and make a 1/6 escape pod environment one day. (someone mentioned that earlier) I reckoned if I waited for someone else to make them I'd never see them realized. The Falcon exterior ramp section (lowered) would could also make for some cool possibilities.
