Thought this would be the most beneficial place to post this. I found a few other threads regarding this exhibit of Star Wars: Where Science meets Imagination, but I wanted to post my findings on the scale models. I've always known that they used model kit parts to make many of the vehicles used in the early movies, but until I started looking at the props specifically for that purpose, I never saw what they actually used. Here's some of what I found, mostly tank and car parts, though I'm sure there were many other things I didn't realize.
On the Rebel Blockade Runner in the opening sequence of ANH, there were many car exhausts and tank parts.

Can you believe they used 12" versions of The Six Million Dollar Man with bionic eye as stand in's for Luke and Ben.

Very cool thread! The imagination in making the SW props had no limits. They tried to make some similar items in the Prequels (Gillette Lady shaver as Jedi Communicator) but it wasn't the same.

Great thread and love the photos so far (YOU GOT TO POST MORE and moreso all 1/6th Ones).

One of the reasons I got into modelling as a child was the kitbashed spaceships using tanks, cars etc pieces and IMAGINATION :D

Sebulba's Pod Racer. I believe this was in 1/6 scale, it was pretty massive. It's hard to get good shots without a flash thru plexi and not shake. :slap
I wish I took 100 more shots of each vehicle, I might just have to go back and do that to get more details.

A few more random, the Chicken walker looked about 1/6 as well. These models were in the darkest corner of the room, so I couldn't get any good shots of them, they came out all blurry. :monkey2
