Re: The Apple Tablet

Love Apple - looking forward to the reveal of the tablet. I have a feeling it will be similar to an iPhone, just bigger.

Re: The Apple Tablet

I'm curious to see how this turns out. I'm a Mac person, but I have some doubts as to whether people are ready for something like this. I mean, the touch-screen tablet is nothing new, is it? And it hasn't really taken off. The difference now of course is the Mac interface. Now that the general population is familiar with the iPhone interface and how it works, it's almost as if it was a way for Apple to indoctrinate everyone into the Mac world this way, and the tablet is simply the next step. People have also started warming up to Macs in general, so the interface is not the hurdle it used to be.

So, will the tablet be like the mock-up suggests, simply a laptop without the keyboard, or will it be like a giant iPhone? Is it meant to replace the laptop, or is it meant to be supplemental?

Re: The Apple Tablet

I'm hoping Apple announces something other than a tablet tomorrow just to see the internet explode. Could you imagine if the press event was just for iLife '10? :rotfl

That said, I'm not sure what the application for such a device would be, but I would get one just to make an LCARS theme for it. :D

That is entirely possible. I hope that's not the case.

I believe the Apple Tablet could replace current netbooks or perhaps even standard laptop computers. It could be used as an Kindle-esque e-reader. Who knows...until tomorrow.

A lot of people believe that it could be like an beefed up iPhone or iPod touch with better functionality but flattened out with a rolling pin. :lol

Re: The Apple Tablet

tablet will be a real computer imo..if it's under 1000 euros i will buy it surely!!!

Re: The Apple Tablet

I look forward to this...
I wonder how powerful it will be...
I'm thinking about replacing my Mac Mini later this year, but I don't know if this would be an option.

Re: The Apple Tablet

MacRumors is not convinced it will have the regular Mac desktop OS:

While some may be holding out hope for a Mac OS X based experience, there has been absolutely no evidence that the tablet will run anything related to Apple's desktop operating system, and the use of the ARM processor would eliminate the possibility of direct Mac application compatibility. It seems certain that the tablet will run an evolution of the iPhone operating system which has been designed for multi-touch interfaces.

Re: The Apple Tablet

The CEO of McGraw-Hill, a partner of Apple (and subsequently, the tablet) let slip on a CNBC segment that yes, the Apple Tablet exists, among other details:

"Yeah, Very exciting. Yes, they'll make their announcement tomorrow on this one. We have worked with Apple for quite a while. And the Tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system and so it will be transferable. So what you are going to be able to do now is we have a consortium of e-books. And we have 95% of all our materials that are in e-book format. So now with the tablet you're going to open up the higher education market, the professional market. The tablet is going to be just really terrific."

Re: The Apple Tablet

I'm all about this! Since I switched to a Mac last year I will never go back to a PC again. :lecture

Re: The Apple Tablet

I called this a while back when the "Netbooks" started exploding the scene. Jobs stated they had no interest with this market even though it would've been a great way to get their laptops mainstream. I knew they had something else brewing to blatantly come out with something like that.

~~Here's my prediction: Tablet, iPhone update, Macbook Pro updates, and hopefully dropping the White Macbooks from their lineup to drop the 13" MacBook Pro as the entry level laptop.
