Dawn Wells who played Mary Ann Summers on Gilligan's Island has died from Covid at 82.

Sad way to go. She was such a babe back in the day.

I was definitely a Mary Ann person, the ultimate girl next door.

She def. made the thought of getting stranded on a desert island actually appealing if she was there.

I always thought she was better looking than the movie star.

Uh, no one dies from COVID, they die from the effects of COVID on the lungs and blood…….

The virus does not kill you directly…..the organ failure and inflammation and blood clots do that.
So that is technically correct…the best kind of correct.

'Complications from' is certainly correct. But look at it this way, if she didn't get Covid she'd still be alive... so I think its OK to say 'died from Covid'. Like you say someone died in a car accident, but its more likely they died from internal bleeding, not the accident.

This discussion brings up a pretty big problem with our health system. If your local coroner runs across someone who dies of a drug overdose, the cause of death may be listed as respiratory depression or some such, depending on various factors, including political ones. Same with suicide. These are the data sent to the CDC that we use to monitor and address public health issues, so a lot of these things are severely under-reported, though not technically inaccurate.
