Default Re: Custom Cabinet Time : )

I basically just have the shelves cut out, but I can share a drawing after I’m done with work tonight.

I like the idea of detolfs, they’re just so small. I kind of designed something similar just larger. I wanted the sides to be glass for viewing, to hold a bunch of figures and to be able to break it down again if I move.
Its basically a base 3 shelves and a top. The shelf spacing is 20 inches, except the bottom shelf is 22 1/2. The shelves will have about 16 inches of usable depth. The whole unit will be 60 inches wide.

I laminated 2 1/4 inch plywood strip to double the edge for strength, and so the lighting will be recessed.
There will be a 1/2 inch threaded rod in each corner to support the shelves and the back of each shelf will be mounted to the wall too. I’m pricing getting glass cut now, that is gonna be the $$$$$$ part.
I’d be farther along but my mom requested a vanity for her basement bathroom:

The swinging doors are from my grandmother’s original vanity from the 50’s that my grandfather built. I built this around using them.

This is like the 2nd thing I've ever attempted. The 1st being my cab for my diorama in my signature.

Tinkering with one cube to make sure everything is “right” :

I'll put 2 more lights lower right & left (like foot lights on stage) to wash the bases a bit.

Have a game plan now....rolling along.

What are you using for lights? Also, that test cube looks great.

They do look cool, that’s the main reason I inquired. I think I’ll probably go with something that’s flat, strip type lights. I recessed the bottoms of the shelves for that very reason, but should I need some extra spots I will get some of those.
