I asked a Sideshow rep during the chat and he didn't know if anymore Bond was planned. Not knowing isn't a good sign. I think it's over. :(

I asked Chris in chat this morning and he could nt tell me anything either. He said that he and Amy(whoever she may be)were fans of the licence however.Bond has a lot of fans in the Sideshow heirachy.I spoke to Brant earlier in the year on chat and he told me that another figure would be revealed later in the year.

I do nt think it s dead, because they have nt announced the end as they did for the LOTR/Weta partnership, and they KNOW theres still a ton of figures to do.Could be it s taking a mild hiatus,as did the Buffy line which took a three year break before coming back en masse.Or maybe they re saving something special for the release of "From Russia with Love" in November.

It s annoying though.I d like to hear something for definite, one way or the other. It s the least we deserve.

agree

I completely agree - just four words on the Sideshow Bond page would do it - JAMES BOND WILL RETURN!

Just give us some information -tell us if the line is alive or resting, or dead - tell us if we can expect more product next year to coincide with Casino Royale - tell us why you made a load of Bond figures from crappy films first (Man With The Golden Gun, Licence to Kill) instead of a Thunderball jetpack Bond and FRWL set with Red Grant; tell us we're getting a FRWL set to coincide with the game, and Bond will have a voicechip voiced by Sean Connery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just talk to us! Because at the moment, do we expect you to talk, Mr Brant? No, we're expecting the line to die!!!!!!!

AAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You make me feel so @#%$ angry, you with your Legend busts and maquettes and signed Star Wars books......where's my Donald Pleasance as Blofeld figure?????? Eh? Eh? Why don't you come over to Britain, so I can ram your poncey 1:1 Endoskeleton whatever thingy right up your arse? It's simple - here's a DVD of Thunderball, here's a pause button, this is the scene where Bond wears one of his coolest gadgets - a rocket belt - here's a game coming out this year where Connery's Bond wears said rocket belt - over there you'll find lots of free publicity - here's a scalpel and lump of sculpy - NOW GET A BLOODY MOVE ON!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad I got that off my chest.

Re: agree

:lol :lol :lol

That was the funniest post i ve read in ages Airbond-many thanks for a much needed laugh!I m so glad i got to see it in all it s magnificence before it gets edited.

That game is really shaping up to be something else is nt it.I m hoping it ll even surpass Goldeneye. It s certainly got the potential.

Re: agree

Kudos, Airbond. You voiced all of my frustrations perfectly.

I'm going to hold out hope that we'll see more Bond later this year. Frankly, it would be a silly move on Sideshow's part not to take advantage of the FRWL videogame. May goodness, what publicity they can get then.

Let's try to keep the Bond discussion going. Show Sideshow that there is still much interest.

Re: agree

:lol I agree airbond! Where are the Bonds we want? Perhaps we should use the technique to obtain the information favored by Mr. Largo: some ice cubes and a cigar, one for heat, one for cold, applied scientifically...:whip

Re: agree

There isn't much demand for the 12" license for any of the properties SSC is doing, so even if it expires there wouldn't really be a problem renewing it. The SSC/Weta partnership for LotR things was unique and that's why it got a "end of line."

Why let them close the door on any of the licenses? If they make an announcement "it's dead" then it's just embarrassing for them to then come back with new figures. Much better for it to lie dormant and bring out a new figure every now and then.

I love Bond and would like to see more figures made, but it does seem that there just isn't a large enough of a demand for any characters except Bond himself. They're still giving away figures right and left just to get them out of the warehouse.

Re: agree

Of course they didn't have to give figures away from the Connery movies, for the most part. Those all sold very well. A little more forethought into what they made would help a bit.

Re: agree

They didn't give any away to me. :(
I think there is still hope for some more 1/6 Bond figures. Sideshow knows that they can't leave the line without giving us a Jet Pack Bond. We'd kill them for doing that to us.

shifting Bond

Actually, there don't seem to be that many figures still available - I was just looking on the website and only the LALD set, Connery Thunderball and the Goldeneye figures seem to be available. Even the Lazenby OHMSS set seems to be retired.

So yes, the Connery-era figures do seem to be more popular, so why not make more of those? if the Thunderball figure hasn't sold, I believe that's down to the higher price point - and maybe the edition size was too large to begin with. But they certainly didn't hang around on the shelves at my local Forbidden Planet. As regards the LALD set, maybe the film wasn't popular enough, maybe people just bought the Golden Gun set instead. I think it might have been unwise to issue two Moore Bond's at the start of the line for two films that are among the least loved in the series (as opposed to the Connery figures for Dr No and Goldfinger, two films that non-Bond fans regard as classics.). And as for Goldeneye, well, it's just not a great set - the Xenia figure is awful, and everyone wanted the Brosnan figure in a black special ops costume from the pre-credit sequence.

So there's two issues here - how can Sideshow shift the figures it already has, and what should the future of the line be? Well, regarding the first, why not produce new outfits on cards for those films, outfits that everyone wants, and drop the price of the original figure a little? Even bundle them together? I know if I buy a new outfit I will probably buy a new figure too to put the outfit on, and it will at least make people consider buying another figure they already have. I always thought the head sculpt was the most expensive part of a figure to produce, so outfits shouldn't cost too much. If there are still Lazenby figures in the warehouse, a kilt outfit should shift them. I bet a white tux outfit from Octopussy plus Faberge egg accessory would shift some LALD Moore figures. For Goldeneye, a black special ops outfit as mentioned above might sell more Brosnan and Bean figures (they both wore it). Or maybe one of those delicious Brioni suits (I'll even lend Sideshow my copy of 'Dressed To Kill' as a visual reference!). Sorry, nothing will make me buy a Xenia figure! A generic Commander Bond naval uniform would be hugely popular. And of course, carded outfits and accessories would be wonderfully reminiscent of the old Gilbert carded outfits from the 60's (I believe you can see some stills of them on the Thunderball DVD).

As for the future of the line its pretty clear that everyone wants more classic Connery Bond starting with...no, I can't even bring myself to type the words 'T********** J****** Bond'. Just make the edition sizes a little smaller. Maybe the Action Man Bond that existed a few years ago got it right - those, as recall, were never more than 5000. (Incidentally, how about numbering the editions?)

At this stage I'd even be prepared to accept a carded Jetpack accessory and suit!!!!! Rush one out in time for the release of the FRWL game and you can put me down for another Thunderball Scuba Bond to wear it on my shelf.

Just don't kill the line, and I'd hate any other manufacturer to get their hands on it, in time to make a fast buck with Casino Royale and then kill it.

How about a direct reply to our points? Us Bond fans have bought a lot of stuff off you over the years! We appreciate the fact that you've produced so many versions of one of our favourite characters - please show your appreciation for our cash by telling us when we can expect more, or why our ideas wouldn't work!

Re: shifting Bond

Live and Let Die and Golden Gun not popular? Those are the best Moores!

'the Best Moore's'...

'the best Moore's'...that's not saying very much! Even a fan of Moore's Bond will have to admit that his films lack the iconic power of the Connery Bond, which is right up there with Elvis, Marilyn and other pop culture deities.

And of course, it's a matter of opinion whether they are the best Moore's. Some would say they're the worst (Golden Gun is, anyway).

Re: 'the Best Moore's'...

Yes, the films starring Moore are not as good as even OHMSS and the Daltons. But having recently seen AVtaK and Octopussy, I don't know how you can say TMwGG is the worst...:fart

Re: 'the Best Moore's'...

I have to agree with Airbond on the Moore films. MWTGG is near the bottom of the list. I think Moore's best, in order, are:

1. For Your Eyes Only

2. Octopussy

3. Live and Let Die

Spy is probably the next best, with MWTGG and AVTAK being towards the bottom. Moonraker is the worst by far.

Different strokes for different folks.

Re: 'the Best Moore's'...

For me:

First : For your eyes only:clap

2. Live and let die:dance

3. Moonraker:yay

4. Spy...:toast

5. AVTAK:bang2

6. Golden Gun:thwak :bonk

7. Octopussy:bang

yes...

Different strokes indeed! I don't like AVTAK either, but nor do I like FYEO...it's just not special enough in my eyes, not enough of an outlandish Bond film for me to like it. I can see why other people like it though, just as a lot of people like LTK, because they return Bond to his Fleming roots.

On the other hand, Moonraker is my favourite Moore film, (although most people regard it as the worst Bond film of all!). I like it because it creates a huge fantasy world of its own and the scale of it (and the music) reminds me of YOLT. True, the Gondola chase makes me cringe, and the appearance of Jaws in the title sequence - and Jaws's girlfriend, yeeucchh - but I think it would be a much better film if you could edit these out (and I think you could without too much trouble).

I like the pre-credit sequence of 'Spy...' but found the rest of the film a bit turgid. I also like the Germany scenes of Octopussy (which is really two films, one set in India one set in Germany) because I think this part of the film has some genuine suspense (and the idea of a nuclear explosion on an American airbase causing a US withdrawal from Western Europe, although now dated, was good for its time). But all the India scenes are just far too Austen Powers (especially Octopussy's army of bikini-clad assassins at the end!)

BTW, I've had dinner by the pool at that hotel in Udaipur, at exactly the same table where Bond has dinner! Udaipur itself is still trading on its Bond associations - a number of hotels and restaurants still show Octopussy EVERY NIGHT 22 years after the film was released and every autorickshaw driver will claim to have been in the film (even the ones who obviously weren't born when it came out).

Apart from Moonraker and 40% of Octopussy, Moore is less for me. Anyway, everyone loves Connery's films. He's the man.

Re: yes...

I agree that some selective editing would make Moonraker a better film. I actually like it more now then I used to.

AVTAK is one of those films that should have been better than it turned out. Walken was a good villain and the plot should have made for a strong Bond film. Unfortunately it didn't. AVTAK has aged poorly with me. I used to like it a lot more.

On the other hand, Octopussy was a Bond that was never one of my favorites. It's become one of my favorite Moores over the years.

FYEO is the only Moore that I feel is in the upper half of the series.

What're your top five overall Bond films?

Here are mine:

1. OHMSS
2. FRWL
3. Thunderball
4. LTK
5. Goldfinger

Goldeneye, FYEO, Die Another Day, Living Daylights, and Dr. No would probably be my next five.

top Bond films

I'm afraid my top Bond films are the first six, plus the four Brosnan entries - I don't like anything that came in between! As for the order, all of the first six are so different and have so much to recommend them, that I'd have to put them all 1st equal. Dr No invented the series, FRWL is a great, fun spy thriller, Goldfinger finesses the formula to perfection (and has a very witty script) Thunderball is a big ballsy film that oozes confidence, while YOLT is an immense, absurd, psychedelic action-adventure. OHMSS is a great, melancholy coda to the Sixties Bond.

I like all the Brosnan films but TWINE best of all cause it did some genuinely original things with the formula.

How about a few Sideshow employees giving us their list? Come on, give Bond some love!
