I know this probably isn't the best place to post this question, but if there's anyone out there that knows the answer I thought it would be here!!

So, does anyone know whether there are plans to release the films on Blu Ray or HD-DVD in the future? I'm thinking of getting a HD player to go with my new widescreen TV, and I obviously don't want to get one that won't play the LotR films when they finally do get released in HD. Any info much appreciated....

Nothing is for sure....yet.

But, I think I read somewhere it will be released on both formats. With possibly HD-DVD first.

Myself, I will wait for the Blu-Ray version.

:rock

Now this is what I read in an Australian Paper... Apparently blu-ray might lose the race for market dominance in the future due to one fact and the choice of the world's oldest business... The Sex industry & PORN!

From my understanding the Porn Industry will not be making Blu-Ray Discs and will only use HD-DVDs for their *cough* "movies". Basically, The P-Industry says HD-DVDs are cheaper to produce than Blu-Ray and for that reason alone they won't use Blu-Ray technology. It's like the old Beta Vs VHS chestnut once again... Porn was only ever recorded on VHS and sold on VHS, Beta was the better product, but to produce it was more expensive...

So to answer your question - I would get HD-DVD because it's a good, solid format, but Blu-Ray from all reports is better quality, but is it the lasting format for the next generation of movie discs & movie players is the enigma for you to answer yourself?

I'll probably end up getting it on both. Just so I can cover myself on whoever wins. :lol

New Line still hasn't released any HD content, so it won't be on any format for a while now. They're either waiting for one side to win, or for Total HD later this year.

Last I heard it's slated for HD but no time frame yet :monkey2

No news on any possible BR release.

I have also heard this about the pr0n movies will decide who wins between the high-definition. It makes sense though. pr0n movies sell probably 20 times more than conventional movies....not that I would know of course...

Blu-ray is awesome, so lets hope it lands on that format.

Well with an argument like that, I don't see how HD stands a chance

i see your sarcasm, but i really don't think it warrants a debate. it's a personal preference, and since i have both a ps3 and a 360 with a hd-dvd drive, i couldn't really care... BUT, i personally like Blu-ray better. it's awesome to me. he only asked what format it would come out on, so i don't really think of my post as trying to argue which is better.

HD DVD will release it first, probably this year 3 or 4th quarter, as New Line Cinema has already committed to HD DVD, however, at the Electronics Convention in Las Vegas? earlier this year, New Line Cinema, Warner Bros, and HBO have confirmed that they will be the first to come out with THD, Total High Def, which will be HD on one side and Bluray on the reverse, and that Lord of the Rings will come out end of this year on BluRAy...300, which was ALSO a New Line release, hence HD DVD, has already been officially announced to be release June 30th I believe on both formats...so thats good news for LOTR!

I think it's funny that everyone who has a PS3 is pulling for Blue-Ray and everyone who has a 360 drive or a Toshiba player is rooting for HD (me included).

I don't think either one is better than the other and movie companies will NEVER fill an entire BR disk because of perceived value. They could put a complete TV season on one disk but people would have a problem paying $75 for one disk. If it's on 4-5 disks, you feel like you're getting more. I know, it's stupid, but so is the American public.

Not true, I just said I have both. Realistically i'm pulling for both, since any HD Format is superior to a regular or even progressive format. I'm just saying that RIGHT NOW I like Blu-ray better, since at the moment it's really the only full 1080p HD quality option that I have since I don't have an XBOX 360 Elite. I just have the Xbox 360 Premium system, when hooked up with the Xbox HD-DVD drive, only allows you to view HD-DVD's in 1080i/720p via component cables. Thus in my eyes, my 1080p viewing experience via my PS3 on my 1080p television via HDMI is better than my 1080i/720p viewing experience via my 360. See my point?

There is so much wrong information in this post that it's not even funny...

I don't know from what I'm seeing, it looks like B.R. is winning and the porn industry is going both B.R. and H.D.

But from what I've read 300 H.D. version will be packed with more content than the B.R. version. And it pisses me off that POTC 1 and 2 are only on B.R.!:maul

Doesn't really matter much to me as I own hardware that plays both formats. I'll just buy which ever format looks, sounds and/or content is better.

I have a 1080P screen now....but still undecided about which HD hardware to go with. I like BR better at this point but am going sit on the fence for a while longer.:D
