Lots of R1 gushing and it’s a good film for sure but it has plenty of plot holes/issues.

Bor Gullet doesn’t have long term consequences for Bodhi.
Saw just gives up instead of leaves with the heroes when there’s time.
The concept of the Guardians on Jedha isn’t well explained or why Chirrut and Baz have drastically different outfits and fighting styles.
Jyn suddenly becomes an inspiring leader - a bit jarring and sudden.
Jyn leaves the recording of the evidence behind and there’s not a copy.
Hope, hope, hope - a bit overused by the end of the movie.
The movie detracts from ANH because Vader literally sees the Tantive IV leave the Battle over Scarif and still Leia acts clueless when boarded. Prior to this she could easily claim plausible deniability in supporting the Rebellion.
Why didn’t the Alliance have any Mon Cal ships at the Battle of Yavin.

I love this movie but it’s not perfect. Great designs and unique perspective of war and of course hinting at the grey area of the Rebellion. Death Troopers are the best design troopers possibly in the entire saga and an ending where the heroes die is poignant and strangely uplifting.

Speaking of R1...that?s what?s playing right now in my house lol. Love it. Sure it has some plot holes but on the hole it?s one of my top 3 SW movies.

Bor Gullet gives Bodhi PTSD/a fractured mind. 1, shows how ruthless the Partisans are despite being part of the rebellion, 2, creates dramatic tension later on when he’s struggling to remember what Galen told him.
Saw has been a freedom fighter most of his life, and to him it always seemed possible against the empire he knew. When faced with a weapon that literally destroys planets that’s his breaking point (his body was already broken but now his spirit too)
The Jedi weren’t well explained in ep 4, why bother with some exposition when the film can just show them fighting for a cause bigger than themselves.
Wouldn’t you wear your own clothes given the choice?
A convict who has nothing to fight for for realises it’s worth fighting for other people, strikes a chord with the cynical rebels (namely cassian and his mercenaries) since there’s a tangible opportunity to deal serious damage to the Empire and potentially turn the tide instead of the spycraft they’ve been doing for years.
She’s not a leader, just a regular person. That can inspire people.
Well hope is just the main theme of the film, get over it.
The Mon Calamari cruiser (the Profundity I believe) was too damaged to escape and boarded by Vader. No way it can be at the battle of Yavin.
It doesn’t detract from ep 4: despite Vader literally seeing the plans handed over Leia is steadfast against his questioning, it shows to a greater degree how defiant Leia is.

Plot holes: not really. Issues: your issues really.

I mean there are a ton of plot holes more egregious in other SW films. But I?ll contest some of your points:

1) Saw said Bor Gullet could have a side effect of ones losing his mind. And he wasn?t perfectly sane throughout the movie, especially early on. I thought he was agitated and great acting by Riz Ahmed. That points very much nit picking.

2) I mean look at Saw. When we see him in the film he is pretty beaten by the fight: physically, mentally. He wants the fight to continue and sees Jyn doing so. But he can barely walk, hes a fraction of a man. He has nothing more to give. And maybe is a shocked that the empire has just unleashed a laser weapon on Jedha haha.

3) The concept of the Guardians isn?t explained but really just a tad bit less than how much Jedi were explained the ANH. I don?t think that has to be a major point other than the fact that they are believers in the force, establishes the fact Jedha in general is tied to the force/Jedi (kyber crystals as well). And I mean why do they have to have similar styles? Again they aren?t Jedi but it seems Chirrut is more of a believer and Baz is his friend/protector and also a fellow guardian.

4) Jyn becoming a leader...I mean she has really been in and around the fight her whole life. Went in hiding from the Empire, saw her mother killed and separated from her dad, joined the fight with Saw, than went on the run and became jaded by jt all. Than brought back into it because of her tie to saw ans the designer of the Desth Star, finds out about this major death weapon from a father she thought dead, sees him get killed....like I don?t know what you want? She had a lot a lot that she progressed through in the movie and things that might change her mind from being out of the cause to trying everything she could to attack Scarif. Again, she was the only one alive who knew about that message about the Death Star.

5) Saw is super paranoid so he probably wouldn?t have copies. Or share it with anyone. He even think Jyn is there to kill him such is his mental state. And while the message is playing the Death Star destroys Jedha. I think we can forgive Jyn for being a bit rattled and not thinking of taking the message not to mention the cascade of emotions shes feeling seeing her dad alive etc etc.

6) hope hope hope...it is a good message and I?m glad this was a major aspect of the film. They had the cards stacked against them the whole film, and I found it more realistic that nothing was convenient for them to pull off their mission. I?m not going to go over it all but re watch the movie and tell me that the concept of hope isn?t vital to the plot...not just said but shown. And how major is hope from the beginning of the SW franchise....hmmmm

7) This point maybe. I mean I don?t know if it detracts from ANH but all I can think of is that the rebellion wasn?t fully together during the film and they seemed to disagree on Scarif. Maybe she was claiming she wasnt for the attack. But I will give you that one point.

But I will say that if you think that detracts than you should at least give RO credit for one of the biggest things it added: the reason the Death Star, the greatest weapon in the galaxy, had such a massive weakness.

So I get that you can have your opinions and you can straight up hate the movie. That?s ok. I just had to see what I saw from your points in the movie.

Also, lack of Mon Calamari cruisers? The actual answer is that they had yet to be in the SW movies, only appearing in ROTJ of the OT haha. But it was also established that small Starfighters were ideal against the Death Star and capital ships would be useless and most likely serve only as sitting ducks to the fire power of the Death Star.

Hey now I never said I hated the movie, I praised its design and ending after all. It also reinvigorated Vader and cemented his status in Disney canon as the strongest Sith to have ever lived instead of 90s Lucas emphasis on being only a cripple in a suit and far below his force potential. Jedha is one of my favorite settings and the shot of the ISD over the city is breathtaking and immediately memorable. The Uwing looks right at home with the 70s/80s starships and serves a unique function. It also has one of the best droid designs and unique personality in K2. And it all culminates in a very unique planetary setting of a beach world with the most suicidal and desperate land mission in the series as well as arguably the best space battle since ROTJ. I got what I wanted though by reading some counterpoints and I enjoyed the discussion so far. I am also really excited to get the Squad Leader and I got my first Death Trooper as well. Oh and RO mastered and modernized the stormtrooper costume and helmet so there’s that as well. RO has had the most influence on SW up until the Mandalorian so it is very fitting that it’s featured troopers also appear.
