Re: "Commodus" 18th Emperor of the Roman Empire by Pangaea Toy on Kickstarter

Love all the armor etc but the sculpt is anything but Joaquin Phoenix

Re: "Commodus" 18th Emperor of the Roman Empire by Pangaea Toy on Kickstarter

The armors look good, but why not just offer them for sale? Not sure why they're launching as a Kickstarter project unless they're trying to raise the development capital, but $60K seems to be quite a lot. Head sculpt is pretty bad and looks nothing like Joaquim Phoenix as Commodus, but I'm sure someone would offer if the outfits become available. Will see if it pops up in the future.

Re: "Commodus" 18th Emperor of the Roman Empire by Pangaea Toy on Kickstarter

Going to the kickstarter I was thrown for a loop by the prices until I realized they're all in HK dollars. :lol

Just to get this straight:

Gladius Backer= $31 USD you get a 1:6 scale sword & scabbard.

Secret Sword Backer= $36 USD You only get a 1:6 scale sword that has yet to unvieled?

Prima Porta Backer= $131 USD You just get a armor set and boots in White. No sword?

The Glorious Backer= $161 USD You get the armor, boots, clothing in white and two swords, one scabbard, and a dagger; no body included.

The Dark Backer= $181 USD You get the same as the "glorious backer" but in all black, silver, and gold colors, and no body.

The Merciful Backer= $201 USD You get a complete figure, head, body, and multiple hands included, in white color (limited to 180 sets).

The Ruthless Backer= $221 USD You get a complete figure, head, body, and multiple hands included, in a black/silver/gold color (limited to 50 sets)

Romulus And Remus Backer= $401 You get two whole complete figures in both white and black/silver/gold colors (limited to 20 sets)

It sounds intriguing. I personally don't mind that the headsculpt doesn't look like Joaquin Phoenix but you might get more backers if it did.
If I did get in on this I'd only buy one figure, so I'm torn between the two colors. The white looks really cool but I think the black would be more "historically" realistic.

Not sure if the Goal is $60K in HK or US dollars. :dunno
The armor and outfit is available separately in this kickstarter. With the Glorious Backer pledge you get the full set without a body, head, or hands in white; with the Dark Backer pledge you get the same but in black/gold/silver colors.
Those two options are not limited so if everyone pledges that way it might get funded and produced.

HK dollars makes more sense. Still $161 and $181 are rather expensive for just the outfits. I have no interest in the full figures but if someone starts an interest thread for a good Commodus head sculpt I'll probably consider grabbing both versions and just swap out the heads (and possibly the bodies).

Re: "Commodus" 18th Emperor of the Roman Empire by Pangaea Toy on Kickstarter

Head is tiny

Re: "Commodus" 18th Emperor of the Roman Empire by Pangaea Toy on Kickstarter

I think if I jumped in, I'd have to go white.

That head sculpt does suck though.

Re: "Commodus" 18th Emperor of the Roman Empire by Pangaea Toy on Kickstarter

There is a very decent Joaquin headsculpt for sale on e-bay. I plan to get it for this figure if its successfully released. Do they just need an overall 60k pledge value to make all the variations they're offering or will they only make the ones with the most pledges? I've never used Kickstarter and don't want to lose my money however I really love the marble white costume so I would like to reserve one. What does everyone else think?

They have to reach $60K, otherwise it's a no-go. Just looked up that head you're talking about. Not bad, but I'd think someone in the customs section could do better, but at least it's something. The head they're offering is pretty terrible lol.

Re: "Commodus" 18th Emperor of the Roman Empire by Pangaea Toy on Kickstarter

You guys think maybe they are showing a lousy head sculpt so they don't get nailed by pheonix's people? I mean since this is on Kickstarter....usually Pangaea does pretty decent likenesses

Re: "Commodus" 18th Emperor of the Roman Empire by Pangaea Toy on Kickstarter

It's got to be a rights issue, since it's not even remotely close.

You won't pay anything unless the project reaches it's funding goal of 60K, then you'll be charged what you offered to pledge.
Then it's up to Pangaea to produce these and send them out. I own a couple of Pangaea figures and they're quite nice.

Re: "Commodus" 18th Emperor of the Roman Empire by Pangaea Toy on Kickstarter

Same head sculpt as ACI's Roman Republic Centurion "Lucius" (which was supposed to resemble Kevin McKidd / Lucius Vorenus from HBO's Rome). Would rather have a Caesar or Antony from that show than this (looks too much like an opera costume)

Thanks for explaining, I didn't know that's how it worked. Is it 60k overall from any of the pledges?

Re: "Commodus" 18th Emperor of the Roman Empire by Pangaea Toy on Kickstarter

Isn't it a little odd that a company that's been producing figures on their own without issue for a couple years now suddenly resorts to a kickstarter?

Re: "Commodus" 18th Emperor of the Roman Empire by Pangaea Toy on Kickstarter

Both sets are fantastic. I think I'm actually leaning more toward the all white. I don't have anything like that on the shelf and its would really stick out.

I was thinking the same thing, and the fact that these figure companys take almost an eternity to release their offerings, the fact that this one is asking for investment of the future buyer, no time frame for delivery and what exactly you will be getting, is something that I will not risk, no matter how good or how much I want the item, I had to much agravations with the pre-order "system" that no longer will go that route, if not in actual production/delivery/stock...use the money for something else!...my personal opinion and actions of course...and as always...respect those who think different.

Re: "Commodus" 18th Emperor of the Roman Empire by Pangaea Toy on Kickstarter

Well it looks like this project has very little support and won't be happening :/

Looks like they are still trying, with this new announcement, only 10 days less to go...
