wondered if anyone here had any knowledge ,first hand or otherwise regarding my blood pressure problem
i was rushed into the emergency room back in 2008 with bp of 229 over 189 ,spent time in coronary care ward and was diagnosed with malignant hypertension ,due to tests they performed while i was confined ,that it had been this way for 6 years before i was taken to hospital ,via the scaring to the back of my eyes my heart and kidneys lungs and liver. i suffer and am affected at times by* the attendant symptoms associated with* Hypertension Stage 3 / Hypertensive crisis, almost constant headaches ,dizziness ,blurred vision, mental confusion loss of consciousness* chest pains and* recently ive started having* nose bleeds* *
i was prescribed 2 types of bp tablet ,

i recently had a medical and my bp was recorded on meds at 200 over 129 ,
my last medicals were recorded at ...180 over 112 in
2010
and in 2013 ...189 over 120

this suggests to me that my condition is deteriorating despite the meds . everything ive read tells me that my bp for a man at 59 should be in the ballpark of 140 over 100 or ideally 110 over 80

and that anything over 180 over 120 is hypertensive crisis stage 3 and im in danger of a stroke or heart attack
im 59 just turned ,and 6foot 2 ,around 13 and a half stone round 200 pounds, muscle wise im reasonably okay i think ,ive done outdoor physical work on and off most of my working life ,construction etc ,and from 1989 ,to being advised to finish work in 2008 ,i worked rigging and installing tv aerials and satellite systems ,lumping ladders and cat ladders around up and down crawling around on roofs ,which was how i burst disc 3 and 5 in my spine after a fall off a roof ,

im adopted so have little knowledge of my family medical history ,other than my mother's brother died at 59 of a massive heart attack ,
put his overalls on in the living room walking to go outside ,bang stone dead on the kitchen step
and it wasn't a big house ,so must have come on sudden

as im his age now id be a lying if i said this didn't worry me

im also being medicated for stress and depression ,ive been on meds since 2008 after being discharged from hospital ,amlodipine and amias for bp and more recently mirtazapine for depression and anxiety

so this is why im confused about my high readings ,as i wonder how bad they would be if i wasnt on them ,assuming they are working to bring my bp down

i recently had a incident and was attended by a off duty paramedic first responder ,my eldest sons mother ,she took my bp at 200 over 129 ,but said it was only a little high and not to worry but to see my doctor when available ,im concerned that she was trying not to alarm me,

the health care professional at my last medical seemed shocked at the reading but offered no advice with regard to medical attention

so im bemused about what my bp reading means for my future ,is it bad and i should push for more medical help or is it just slightly higher than it should be

any help or insight appreciated

Sorry to hear about your health issues.

My first thought after reading that your medication is not as effective as you'd like, is lifestyle change. You wrote a very well worded post, but I didn't see anything related to your diet or if you have any exercise regime. You also didn't mention smoking or alcohol.

It's not fun to hear and it's less fun to do, but vegetarianism might be fantastic option. In terms of healthy living, I don't think you're going to get any better. Couple that with walking a mile a day and I think you'd see some numbers start to drop.

To be clear, I'm not a doctor or any type of health care professional.

And, as in the past with similar threads, I have stated that discussing your medical condition on a doll/sci-if/comics forum might not be advisable. Obviously, you are free to do as you wish.

But I hope you get better. Medical issues make a lot of other stuff you thought was important seem like total BS.

hi and thanks for the reply

yeah i totally get you about the forum thing lol

but in all honesty i have read some great knowledgeable replies to other posters questions ,on all kinds of subjects
so thought it worth a shot lol

in answer to you questions i dont drink alcohol or tea coffie ,haven't smoked for 42 years only eat around once a day ,never add salt or sugar to my food

walking has been a problem ,i used to be able to walk around 100 metres with out getting breathless ,but recently its dropped to around 25 m ,then im left breathless coughing ,choking almost to the point of vomiting*,pains in my chest ,sort of feels like something heavy is on my chest or like im being crushed ,it* takes around over 20 minutes for me to recover* to a reasonable state and after im left weak and with a terrible head ache

im told this is because im putting my heart under stress and due to the damage its endured it does not pump properly ,due to it being over worked like any muscle it gets hard and not squishy so don't work like its supposed to ,and thats what causes the problem not any weakness in my muscles

ive been treated for depression stress and anxiety ,and my family have have had some bad luck recently the main parts being ,18 november my daughter was a passenger in a bad car crash ,shes okay now but was pretty banged up knocked cold and has little or no memory of the crash ,and is still in physio

,and 14th december my son lost his 14 week son ,little gabriel was found to have a terrible birth defect ,he was perfect from the eyebrows down but had no skull to protect his brain ,so was terminated at 14 weeks ,due to him being so far down the pregnancy ,he was delivered in the natural way which was especially hard on meg his mother and my son ,and affected us all really deeply

sorry for going on but thought it pertinent to my condition ,as the stress affects me and i feel my heart can't deal with it easily due the the damage its endured, but this has been ongoing for 8 years ,so a lot longer than my recent set backs ,just so confused about the reaction to my blood pressure readings and what they really me for my future

when i read this and then contrast it to the seemingly casual attitude to my high readings for the health professionals ive encountered ,im lost as to know what to do next

--Readings above 180 systolic pressure (the upper number) or above 110 diastolic pressure (the lower number usually indicate a hypertensive crisis -- putting you in the highest risk category for heart attack, stroke, and other acute life-threatening problems -- and requiring emergency care.

, Very high blood pressure can cause symptoms such as headache, nausea and vomiting, mental confusion, vision changes, chest pain, or shortness of breath. If you notice any of these symptoms along with a blood pressure above 185/110, your high blood pressure is considered a hypertensive emergency; call 911.

Over time, however, uncontrolled high blood pressure leads to chronic damage of the body's arteries and organs. Common results of this damage include enlargement of the heart, which can cause heart failure, and chronic kidney damage, which can eventually require dialysis.

Malignant (accelerated) hypertension

Organ damage can be a result of severely elevated high blood pressure that occurs with malignant (accelerated) hypertension. When this happens blood pressure must be reduced immediately to prevent organ damage. This is done in an intensive care unit of a hospital.

Organ damage associated with malignant (accelerated) hypertension may include:

Changes in mental status such as confusion or coma (encephalopathy)
Bleeding into the brain (stroke)
Heart failure
Chest pain ( angina)
Fluid in the lungs ( pulmonary oedema)
Heart attack
Aneurysm (bulging blood vessel)
Eclampsia (occurs during pregnancy)
Fortunately malignant hypertension is rare. When it does occur it is often when hypertension goes untreated or if the patient does not take his or her medication.

Symptoms of malignant hypertension

The symptoms of a hypertensive emergency include:

Headache
Seizure
Chest pain
Shortness of breath
Swelling or oedema (fluid build-up in the tissues)

It always come back to health. It's all you really have. Mr. Green had to quit one of his stressful job. No one cares as much as you do.

Look, the internet is a great place for a lot of things, but don't get medical advice from it. Make an appointment with your doctor and talk to him about this. Make a physical list of all your concerns and bring it in with you so you don't forget anything. Ask your doctor if there are any lifestyle changes you could make. Ask him for recommendations for exercises your heart could take. Doctors love giving out that kind of advice, and they went through lots of school in order to be able to do it.

Screen-accurate Vader modifications = Sideshowfreaks.

Life-threatening heart condition = cardiac specialist.

You should definitely talk to your Dr. Seems like the meds they have you on are not working. My family history isn't the best either but even with me being 50 pounds overweight and if I wasn't on meds my blood pressure still would not be close to what yours is. You seem like a stroke or heart attack waiting to happen. Go to your Dr. post haste.

not always true. Some doctors even Hate it if you have a list. one time a doctor laughed about me having a list and didn't let me even read it. he just wanted to hear quickly what was the issue. Another time a different doctor took a couple of seconds look but then asked me as well.
I learned to just memorize what i wrote and not take any list out. it was less awkward that way

Other then Doc visit invest in a blood pressure monitor cuff or watch are easy to find in store's.

I would bypass the family doctor or internist and make an appointment asap with a cardiologist. Make sure you write down a list of your health concerns, prescribed medications, ect. Also write down any questions so you don't forget.

If you have a doctor like that, get a different one. No way would I tolerate that. You're paying them. They work for you. Don't do their job right, fire them.

Yeah, this well past your primary care doc. Cardiologist is a must. Surprised he/she never referred you.

Why are you putting and paying your health into the hands of someone else? Take responsibility for your life, evaluate your current lifestyle, make the changes and appreciate that the body is amazing and can heal itself with proper exercise, diet and attitude. Or just sit there, follow the sheep to slaughter and make the purpose of your life as a cash cow for companies preying and profiting off your illness as is your current situation.
