I've shipped a lot of SS items, nothing went damaged, nothing was shipped with insurance. I don't think they will arrive damaged.

To ship with insurance I have to use DHL or UPS and they charge a lot, also you'd have to pay tax for them when they arrive. So I always ship with National Post, declare value of 100dollars and send as gift. National post charges around 70-80 USD per item.

The risk is still yours to take for shipping. To avoid customs, I could ship them under different names or to your friend's address whichever you prefer.
