I couldn't believe it but there's JC Hong on video telling us what the best-selling Hot Toys characters are, and Black Widow is number one worldwide! (Followed by Iron Man.)

Personally, I think this is awesome, though a bit of a headscratcher. Is there a bigger female contingent among Hot Toys collectors than generally thought, or are more guys willing to overlook the whole "rooted hair = doll" stigma? Or is it all down to Scarlet Johansson's megawatt star power? I myself own two Black Widows with a third one on the way, so I'm pretty happy about this!

Now give us more females, Hot Toys--starting with Agent Carter and Jessica Jones!
 
If it proves anything, it is that people have no taste...

Seriously? BW? Okay, why not... But Iron Man? I love the character, he was and stil is one of my favorite hero, but how can people buy the same figure, all over and all over again and still want more is a mystery to me...:dunno

Peggy Carter would be a problem because of licensing issues, as I understand it. They no longer have the license to The First Avenger and I can't see them doing a Peggy figure based on the TV show since it was not very popular.

I do think Jessica Jones is likely now that we are officially getting Daredevil and Punisher. Hopefully Elektra isn't too far behind.
 
It's because guys can finally play with a toy that has boobs without looking like a freak and the doll is based on a woman that most guys think is hot. What would their mom's have said if she caught them touching their sisters Barbies??
 
I have the last two Black Widows, and the last two (and only) Scarlet Witches... In my opinion the figures of Wanda poop over the figures of her..

The scantily-clad photo ops on OSR confirm this. It's a sad reality of the 1/6 hobby.

So did I. I was frankly shocked to hear it was Black Widow. If not Iron Man I had assumed maybe Ledger Joker or one of the Batmen. Still, it just goes to show that star power is a big deal and Scarlett Johansson is definitely a star. I just hope this leads Hot Toys into trying to expand into making more female characters.

Very true. Yeah....I hope HT do expand to more female character. I know for sure that I didn't contribute to this number cause I'v only have 1 widow which is the Avenger one. Lol

I never understood how people got hot over a piece of plastic. Like all the female character threads where people will post underwear pics of the actress as some sort of argument that the figure needs to be made.
 
I remember reading some stuff with Hot Toys about a year ago where they talked about Widow being only second to Iron Man in sales.

I've honestly started avoiding most of the female figure threads. Some of the posts in them make me embarrassed for everyone involved.

I agree that the threads with female figures being posed in lingerie and so forth are kind of...uncomfortable, but I tend to see those over at One-Sixth Warriors, not here. We shouldn't underestimate Scarlett Johansson's worldwide popularity though, and I don't think people wanting little sex dolls is the reason that Black Widows sell so well. I think the people who set up soft-core porn photoshoots with sixth scale figures are probably a very small slice of the collecting community, and besides, Hot Toys female bodies aren't anywhere near as accurate as Phicens for that sort of thing.

Yeah me neither, and let me tell you, as a woman who sees other collectors getting hot and heavy over the female figures... It's really uncomfortable, and borderline disgusting =/

But on a more positive note: Go Black Widow! Hopefully, like others have said, it helps Hot Toys make more female figures. I'd love to see Sif at some point!

Oh it's plain out weird. You wouldn't see a female collector taking a Chris Hemsworth figure to a dark room would you.. :yuck
 
Widow is usually one of the cheaper figures for any given movie, and the Widow body seems to be really common for kitbashes and customs. Can't say how much that contributes though.
