Rumblings of this being developed has been going on the last few years, but I guess it's finally officially going forward.

Will it actually be called Trainspotting 2? Something about that seems wrong.

Crossing my fingers that it can live up to the first. That was some pretty good filmmaking and I love the characters, but that's a high bar they set in 1996.

I believe one reason it's taken so long was that Ewan and Danny had a beef with each other. I guess it's water under the bridge now.

I think that's the biggest reason. I know Danny also said he wanted the actors to look the right age for the story (the second book takes place 10 years after the first), but it probably wouldn't be happening if they hadn't made up. Those are going to be a rough "ten" years.

Yeah, the book is. Parts of it are set in Amsterdam, that's where Renton goes with the money after the first book.

Hopefully they ditch that novels premise entirely. It's a really weak work in the main, ridiculously OTT, and comes across like Irvine Welsh parodying his earlier efforts. Apart from an eventual coming together of the four main characters, there's absolutely nothing in the book that would translate well to film or provide a foundation for a worthy follow up. It'd be like 'Hannibal' to Trainspotting's 'Silence Of The Lambs'.

Personally, I think they're too late with this one anyway and missed the boat by a decade at least. A squad of sad b******s well into their forties, still scheming, squabbling, shagging and reminiscing about shooting up smack, just sounds way too much like your average episode of 'Benefits Britain' to me.

I know, but if it's happening anyway, I can hope it will be good.

i'd take this with a sense of optimism.

rather than a reboot/gender swap shat...now, that's hopeless.

Can't wait! I'm glad Boyle and Ewan were finally able to put their problems aside.

I've done the same thing too not knowing there was one already.

I've never seen a trailer that announces the movie's own shooting date before.

This should be good.
