Hey guys. I'm trying to build a Liquid Snake pilot (a character from MGS) for my REX and I'm having difficulty working with the clay. What would be the most sturdy clay to use for that scale? Whenever I try to put in find details with the head and body I always seem to mess it up. What tools would you suggest? I'm using just a cheap sculpt kit that has a needle, a knife and a balled end stick. Here was the first one I tried to sculpt and I've already started a second.

I know the arms are Hulk-style since I didn't work on them at this point and his head is big :lol

For such a small scale I would not use clay. I'd recommend either sculpting wax (CX5, castilene or asbro) or "Green Stuff", a 2 part epoxy sculpting medium. Green Stuff is used to make and mod RPG miniatures like warhammer. There are also plenty of youtube videos about using Green Stuff.

Green Stuff, I've seen a couple videos of really small scaled figures and they were green but I didn't realize that they were wax. Is that something you need to cook or does it just harden?

I really appreciate the help, I will definitely look into getting some since this clay is impossible to work with.

Thanks, I just watched some of that. I guess I'm going to need better tools to work with.

Amazon has a good deal on steel tools

I did consider that, and his hair is close enough to Liquid Snake's hair but I would just need to paint it blonde.

You can sculpt cloth with green stuff or milliput. But that will be 1:36 (36=6x6) or buy 1/48 figure and mod it. Or use Super Sculpey firm. It is firm enough and make body and then little dry it with hair dryer and you can add details. And then you will bake it in oven...

Would Green Stuff be responsive to a hair dryer as well? I ordered a 18 inch pack, tools, and some reaper advanced blank bodies to work from.

I've never used Green Stuff but Aves Apoxie Sculpt (2-part self-curing/hardening) worked great for my 1/48 Mk.III an Raiden!
