Being a child of the '80s, his music helped to shape my understanding of. . .reality, in fundamental ways. For better or worse! I wonder if he ever considers the unintended consequences of what he has done.

Sussudio and Blood on the Rooftops (even though it's Genesis) deserve some serious credit. Happy birthday to him, indeed.

He's not a member here. At least he isn't as far as I know. Just wanted to show appreciation to one of my favorite musicians.

Some hate when he took over as lead singer of Genesis when Peter Gabriel left and some hate his solo work, but I enjoy almost all of it.

Yeah, I guess I can understand some hate from folks who were really into the progressive-rock of the early Genesis stuff. Or even from those who hate cheesy 80s pop. But I love the stuff the guy did in the '80s. He embodied the decade musically just as much as Huey Lewis, Madonna, or Michael Jackson. That music was the soundtrack to my childhood, and some of it is pure joy to me.

My mom played his music constantly whenever she drove my brother and me around as long as I can remember and now I never go more than a day without listening to his music. He and Genesis have certainly shaped my mind in a fundamental way as well. I have a lot of appreciation for Phil Collins.

Excellent post. I couldn't relate more. :rock

I still listen to all of those artists too. :hi5:
