Anybody know where to buy a good custom built gaming PC? I really don't have time to build one myself. I've looked at Cyberpowerpc.com and ibuypower.com but reviews about them are very mixed. Any suggestions?

Re: Buying a Custom-built Gaming PC

A friend and I used ibuypower about 5 years ago. Systems were the same build out and pretty good quality but they must have used a cheapo power supplies. They went out after about a year and a half on both of our systems within a month or two of each other.

Since then I have built my own PC's. It really isn't that hard or time consuming to build your own and it is a lot cheaper and more satisfying to get the components you want from quality manufactures. I would recommend Newegg for a lot of the components

Can you build a model kit?
You can build a pc.
Buy the parts, takes about an hour to assemble.
installing software takes about 2.

I think I'm cool with the physical assembly. On the software side is there anything more than installing Windows and display drivers? Also, are the cables included with the various components? The more I think about it the closer I am to trying it myself.

Alienware.......Alienware!!! They specialize in gaming PC/Laptop.

I prefer to build my own desktop too....ez as buying statues! LOL. But if you don't have the time/patience/knowledge, then spend the $$$ on Alienware!!!! Heck, I am not rich enough for the aliens! Hewlet Packages for me!

If you're adamant about building your own machine, just make sure the motherboard are the latest for the latest processors, memories. Oh and get the biggest heatsink(fan) you can get. Thermaltake does the job. Best videocard of course. Don't worry about drivers, they ships with one. I am sure Window 7 will handle the most part, the driver, if you're willing to reuse some old parts.

Little research and you're the man!

Alienware is not very good quality, and they are overpriced.

It's really not hard. When you buy the components it will come with all the cables you need. So like the power supply comes with all the power connectors you need, motherboard comes with the SATA cables, I think the case comes with the screws you need to attach the parts inside.

Installing Windows is very simple, you just put the disc in and it should ask to boot from disc when you start it, then it'll go through the installer. It should have compatible drivers for everything, once you get connected to the internet it can check for updated drivers.

Main things to remember: when plugging in components, especially CPU or RAM you want to stay grounded. You can buy a special wrist band for that, or you can plug in your power supply and make sure you're touching it while you work. It will ground you. When you do the motherboard, attach the CPU and the RAM first and then put the motherboard into the case (don't forget the standoffs).

And for finding parts, use Newegg, look at the user reviews, and make sure that the parts are compatible.

Tiger Direct is also a great PC component/tech site. Very similar to Newegg. I've used both for a long time, but I would say Tiger Direct has better customer service. Never really had a problem with either site. Oh and building a computer these days is like putting together a Lego set, just make sure all of the parts are compatible i.e. pci-express mother board with a pci-express video card... Installing the software and drivers is even easier.

Oh, almost forgot. Look on Newegg or Tiger Direct for barebones kits. These kits include much of what you will need to build a PC. Usually you have to buy a few parts separately, but sometimes you can find really good bundled deals, especially around this time of year.

I just had a custom PC built....company called LY Computers.....found them on ebay...but they have a website.

Intel i5 2400 @3.1 ghz
8gb Ram
64 bit OS Windows 7
1gb video ram card
custom color with LEDs
$750 shipped.

great guy to do business with

alienware is over priced for what you get. find something else

Dabs.com and Scan are both very good for components. Scan also do a range of very customisable high-end gaming rigs, which are very good value. PCSpecialist are extremely good too - quality components, all assembled properly and neatly for a good price (cheaper than cyberpowersystems for the same spec). The most economical route to go would be to build your own - that way you can get exactly what you want without having to pay a premium for it

What no Apple mentions yet?

Like everyone else says, surge Newegg and build your own. It is easy and fun and will save you money.

NCIX, New Egg, Tiger Direct.

I've used those 3. They have both US and Canadian sites as wel.

Know your parts, what you want to build, then put it together, or get a local buddy to do it.

Yeah, think I'm going to build it myself in a month or so. Thanks for the peer pressure everyone. :lol

Like everybody else said, build your own. It's not only cheaper, but it's actually quite fun to assemble it yourself.

NewEgg usually has really good prices, as does amazon and techbargains.com
