This Sucker's Electrical: Brand New DeLoreans Going on Sale in 2013

While the commemorative Nike MAG shoes inspired by Back to the Future Part II were well out of our price range, it was great to see the earnings go to supporting the The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Now yet another iconic piece from the Back to the Future trilogy is becoming a reality again. For years Texas-based DeLorean Motor Company has been servicing and selling DeLorean cars and merchandise, but they've also used old parts to assemble new DeLoreans with 80% original parts and 20% modern technology. But now a new all-electric DMCEV DeLorean is coming with an eye for production in 2013. See the car below!

The all-electric DMCEV DeLorean, sadly without a flux capacitor (from Jalopnik via SlashFilm):

The car was unveiled today at the International DeLorean Owners Event in Houston, Texas. For all car buffs out there, the specs on the car itself haven't been revealed, but we can pretty much guarantee that taking it up to 88mph will not send you traveling through time. However, that iPhone holster is pretty damn sweet. It'd be nice if there was some kind of Back to the Future tie-in for everyone who buys the car which is expected to sell for about six figures. That pretty much guarantees there will be somebody out there wearing a pair of Nike MAG shoes driving around this DeLorean sometime in 2013. And I'll be jealous. Cool, right?

Besides being a cult icon, the original DMC-12 was a terrible car. Hopefully these have more than 130 bhp.

I'm not that into cars, but is that really that bad? I don't think they marketed the car to be a rival for the Camaro or Mustang or anything, did they?

That's pretty awesome, but why doesn't somebody REALLY put the Delorian back in production? Or at least a updated one that pays homage to the original. Just look at the the VW Bug, the Camaro, Dodge Charger, etc, even the new Fiat, that vintage look is totally selling nowadays. Making it out of original parts is of course going to drive the price up. Doing a new run, even if it's limited, would probably sell well.

Well it was supposed to be a sports car. Currently the new Ford Focus base model has 160 bhp so the DMC-12 was seriously under-powered.

My Celica only has like 140 hp and while its not adequate as a "sports car" its adequate as a coupe. I guess if they price this thing at $40,000 or more then it better be pretty fast.

I guess not really be a car historian I always grouped the DMC more in the RX7 or Celica class more than the Firebird, Corvette, Mustang, Camaro classes.

In today's money, a DeLorean would have cost about $60K new.

Hope they aren't as slow and crappily built as the original. Even for early 80's cars they couldn't get out of their own way.
