Re: Cobra commander

Id get one if you do make it.

hey a tip for getting a perfect silver in casting get something called black resin and a powder in silver.

What you will want to do is use a platinum mold "that's what it's called" or mold max

onyx it's a black resin(sounds odd but this is how most items are cast silver)https://www.smooth-on.com/index.php?cPath=1120_1325
what you do is make a mold and then coat a thin layer of this in silver bullet https://www.smooth-on.com/Cast-Magic=-Powd/c1215/index.html?catdepth=1
then pour the onyx resin/plastic this creates a silver. then i recommend a clear acrylic spray and maybe chrome spray. this won't rub off and it's uv resistant so it won't fade

Re: Cobra commander

the only other thing you could do is just cast it in black resin then spray paint it gloss black and use this with an air brush
Alclad® II chrome

Re: Cobra commander

Thanks guys. Will update is casting is ok.

Groovy, thanks for the link. I have been using Alclad for a long time. I use it mainly for my scale modelling and this is my mainstay for recreating metal surface in scale. The one I use for this build it Alclad polished aluminium with a gloss black base coat.

Re: Cobra commander

your welcome i just wanted to give you enough options to choose from to make a cool product. I actually like yours more than the SS release. by casting the mask in black saves you some of the trouble.

Re: Cobra commander

I would have just used the stock one. At least it's chromed and displays nicely.

But you do get an E for effort.

Re: Cobra commander

so are you priming the chrome dome part in gloss black since that is the only prime that needs

Im going prime everything to check for flaws and surface imperfection. This includes the face plate and the helmet. The primer will also serve as a medium for the base paint of the helmet to "grip". The face plate will receive a base coat of gloss black prior to Alclad then a 2K clear coat to protect it. I will also try to see if I can send it for chroming to a specialist. Its going to be expensive but the result would be a fully chromed face plate.

Re: Cobra commander

Here is the completed full cast. I have cleaned off the pouring blocks. Still need a primer to check for flaws and correction of surface prior to base coat. The face plate will receive a full chrome, stay tune on this.

Take note that this HS will be for the stock neck, I have made full adjustment so that the head will not look to "high" on the long neck.

Here is the original HS for comparison. IMO the only thing that I like about this HS is the chrome on the face plate. The shape of the face plate looks strange to me. Plus the exaggerated pointed effect of the helmet

More angle shots for comparison.

Re: Cobra commander

this looks like the cartoon comander which makes it more apealing to me than SS pointed hood
