Here's a random bit of Dark Knight trivia I didn't know. The Joker's Bank Robber mask ...

... looks eerily like a mask worn by the Joker in disguise on the 1960s Batman TV Episode "The Joker is Wild" ...

That's a pretty obscure reference, but the resemblance is too close to be an accident.

Somebody on Nolan's team did their research.

Yupp pretty deliberate reference there, was very surprised when I first saw that. Always thought it was very cool

Here's another little piece today:

Knight Rises, the new Batman film from Warner Bros. and director Christopher Nolan, has been rated PG-13. The move is not unexpected (2008’s The Dark Knight had the same label) but it does underscore some interesting tidbits about the movie.

'The Dark Knight Rises: Lego Edition' Trailer Goes Viral (Video)
The rating means Dark Knight Rises is completely finished — sound and score included — more than three months before its July 20 release date. That’s an unusual accomplishment for an epic tentpole movie these days. Most are finalized just weeks before their release. The Amazing Spider-Man, which opens July 2, doesn’t have a rating yet, nor does Prometheus, the Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi film set to open June 8. It also means the cut of the movie screened by Nolan for top Warners brass March 16 was far from a rough print and was close to his final version. The timeline highlights how efficient Nolan is as a filmmaker.
The early rating also fires the starter pistol for the most aggressive phase of Warners' marketing plan, according to sources. As a follow-up to a movie that grossed $1 billion worldwide, hit status for Rises seems inevitable. But Warners clearly isn’t leaving anything to chance. With three months to go and a ratings label in hand, Warners will be able to hone its message with laser-like focus. It also means the studio will be able to start screening the movie for taste-makers and critics. If it chooses to, of course. (UPDATE: Warners says Nolan could still make small technical tweaks the movie so it's not quite ready for screenings.)
Finally, TDKR scored its rating for “intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language.” The 2008 movie was considered envelope-pushing for its intensity — some parents were left wondering why the Batman movie hadn’t been rated R — and the rating leaves no question that audiences can expect the same with the new movie. But by singling out “sensuality” in the label, the ratings board might be indicating that this movie has something new to show about the caped crusader. It might also preview a more emotional side of Nolan, whose films have been described more cerebral than emotion-filled.

Didn't they come out and say that was what they were trying to do?

Bad Ass Digest:

https://badassdigest.com/2012/04/09/the-dark-knight-rises-to-be-the-most-sensual-batman-film-yet/

The Dark Knight Rises got a PG-13 rating, which is like no ____ duh. The movie could have Christian Bale skull____ing Tom Hardy and it would probably get a PG-13 - the MPAA simply does not stand between massive blockbusters and their intended rating (see The Hunger Games, which should have an R rating based on the MPAA's own standard pussyfooting around violence against children)._

What's almost interesting, and what motivated me to write this bit of hit-baiting, is that the film's PG-13 includes 'some sensuality.' Now, sensuality has never been Christopher Nolan's hallmark as a filmmaker - he made the least sexual dream movie of all time, after all - but when you get Catwoman in your Batman film you expect at least SOME sparks to fly. And it looks like they will. So it looks like we're getting some sort of Batboner material this time around.

It'll be interesting to see how Nolan handles that aspect. Bruce Wayne has remained all but celibate in these films, and his love for Rachel was always very chaste. Batman's an inherently feti___ic concept (something Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher embraced in ways that enraged fanboys), and while Nolan could ignore that aspect of it once Catwoman gets involved it becomes way harder. No pun intended. And it gets doubly complicated if Talia al Ghul takes on any role similar to the comics, where she birthed Bruce's baby.

Anyway, sexuality has been notably absent from these 'realistic' takes on Batman, so I'm interested in seeing what Nolan does with his sensuality.

Hopefully it will be as sensual as this shot of Bruce Wayne getting a facial of bats.

I hate the american movie rating system.

I hate the american movie rating system.

Why?

Is this new "news" really that new to people? I could have told you that it was going to be PG-13. What's the big deal? Who cares? :huh

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I hate the system too. But I don't get what it has to do with the TDKR rating....

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Every movie should be restricted so that way I don't have to sit in the theatres with fat children planking, texting their moms, and chatting about Justin Bieber. :slap

Nobody is making a big deal about it being PG-13.

It's the "some sensuality and language" part that has people spekulating.

Oh yeah... and that it's already rated.

Nothing about TDKR, just TDK. It was borderline "R"? The MPAA has literally raped movies of it's creators vision and blinded the entire public eye at how movies are looked at. OMG IT WAS SO INTENSE IT NEEDED TO BE "R". ____ those parents. :lol

Just like this new movie Bully, it almost got a NC-17 because it showed what kids say and do at school. So it's now going to be looked at as a bad movie for kids to watch, when in reality it's the one movie they should watch.

I just really despise the old ____s and stupid biases all the people on the ratings board have.
