I'm still super curious to see where the show goes, now that SHIELD is dust. I said in the Cap thread that I think Fury will try to rebuild, so, who better to start with than your "right eye," and his most trusted allies?

He knew that the ONLY people within SHIELD he could trust 100% was Coulson and May, and letting them build a team from the ground up was a way of making a contingency plan for when **** goes south. May is reporting on Coulson's (and the team) status directly to Fury via the encrypted hardline. The show will continue to be called "Agents of SHIELD", because they are truly all that is left of SHIELD. Fury will work remotely with Coulson's team and use the team to root out HYDRA operatives where he can, until he feels the time is right to come back "on the grid".

Zola is indeed the Clairvoyant and survives the missile strike. The AoS team is then tasked with hunting down the remaining Hydra agents which could feature Zola closer to his robotic form and maybe hint at Zemo or even make Zemo the main villain. The hunt continues into the following season and bridges the gap between TWS and AoU, when the Avengers take down Strucker.

the clairvoyant is someone that was using the Zola computer, rather than Zola itself. I agree, it's very likely that Zola "survived" the blast.

I suspect Zola evolves into Ultron in this continuity. I don't think AoS will touch this plot thread in any meaningful way, a reference in dialogue at most.

It was pretty cool they name-dropped Stephen Strange.
