  2. Thanks for the rep! If you're ever interested in the Lone Wolf and Cub TV series, I can hook you up with all three seasons . I won't even take money. Seasons 2 and 3 weren't distributed in the U.S, so they're fan-subbed.

It was uneventful, which is fine with me.
  4. Merry Christmas, bud . Hope you're having a good one.

And no problem, I do it all the time . On the note of "freedom", man is essentially created by nature, but he remains in bondage because of the passions - which include detrimental emotions and behaviors that man is unable to control through his own volition. But, since the passions were prescribed to man through nature, Spinoza argues in Book IV, that under naturalistic laws, man cannot be held accountable for his bondage through the passions. This is regardless if the passions cause man to commit murder, because he's simply acting out, on the natural emotions that were given to him .

Have you ever read the book of Deuteronomy, by the way? It explains that "blessings" and "curses" are only two systems of spiritual laws that man is capable of following. There's no in-between, and no freedoms outside of those systems. In turn, God himself, is subjected to the very laws that he has created for man.

    Merry Christmas!!!

  6. In his deterministic universe, the only explanation for the possibility of freedom was an entity that had no prior cause, i.e. a first cause/Prime Mover. For God's creations to possess freedom, He would have to possess it himself.
  7. Alright, I see .

Well, from what I can remember, a first cause would have to entail a creative being (aka. God), who models nature after his own attributes. But, Spinoza was purely a determinist, who believed in cause-and-effect (aka. natura naturata). So, his whole idea of "God" and causation didn't accommodate the notion that there exists a cause in of itself (or, something that exists independently, and purely outside of deterministic variables).
  8. What are you reading?

I've been meaning to pick up a copy of Critiques of Pure Reason. And I still have my Ethics book that's scribbled all over with notes like a mad man, if you want to discuss anything .
