  1. Have you seen the Bill Nye vs. Ken Ham debate on Natural Science vs. Six Day Creationism? I wonder why I even watched all 2 hours, 45 minutes of this . Nye clearly won the debate, by presenting reasoned, scientific facts to his argument. Severe absurdities arise when literal interpretations are taken from Genesis chapter 1.

Anyways, thanks for mentioning that book, man. I'll definitely have to pick it that book and give it a read .

But, about Spinoza, wasn't he very much a Statist? From what I gather in Book IV, he argued that the rule of law, and fear of punishment is required for man to keep the affects (aka. the passions of joy, desire, and sadness) under control. The passions are essentially, the emotional impulses that lead lead men into conflict with one another.
  6. That actually sounds very intriguing. I am a Christian (you mightn't guess it from the nonsense I do on the forum ). But, just from reading the New Testament alone, it accounts that Christ had both human and divine nature - and there were a few instances where they actually clashed with one-another. In the Garden of Gethsemane, scripture accounts that he was extremely conflicted about his impending arrest and crucifixion, to the point where the stress caused him sweat drops of blood. He even asked God to take the "chalice" of being Christ away from him, and pass it to another. But, he corrected himself and said, "let your will be done". So, yeah, I think everything about Jesus, from the time of his ministry, to the events which lead to his death, came with choice. He was very much a free, moral agent, just as anyone else, but he chose to live without sin. That said, there was also a great potential for failure because of that.
  7. Hey, so, have you been reading anything new lately?

I think I've given up on trying to figure out Books I and II of Ethics . But, I spent some more time with books III and IV, and surprisingly, things are very easy to understand (but, I could be wrong on that). I'm actually very tempted to pick up some readings from Hobbes now, because I heard he had great influence on Spinoza's political theory.
