Updated: 10/30/12

Dyed Rayon capes are now being prepped and sold. I purchased the fabric and will begin the process of dying it to make it darker. If anyone would like one they are 30 dollars shipped in the US and 35 dollars shipped outside the US. My paypal is Lforigno@gmail.com thanks

I have obtained the template to the actual hero cape used on bale during all 3 films for the Nolan batman series and I will be making my cape using this new design. I would like to see if there is enough interest in these capes. I will not be posting the template on the boards as I got this from a friend who has many connections and would not want to jeopardize that. Every single cape would be identical since I will be following the hero pattern to a T unlike last time where mostly everything was just hand made. Anyways let me know if you would be interested before I update the page with order information.

I'm not sure on price but it will be just as accurate as the real cape used in the film. It will be a little more than I am charging now because the template is much more complex. Also begins and tdk will be the same price.

I'm anxious for the pics and pricing info. Put me down on the list, Ilforigno, if I agree with the price and like how the cape looks, I'll surely get one. Your capes are awesome and I have 3 of them. =)

I understand there have been a lot of people on this forum that have boughten not just one of my capes but many and I am not doing this to make money rather than do it for the most accurate batman look. It is much more complex and even sewing is involved with this pattern. I was messing around a bit today with the pattern and it looks perfect on a truetype. It is long enough to have the dynamic cape poses from begins but also the perfect length in the back.

Also I feel as though in this scale with the hero cape pattern the rayon material which I will dye to make it darker and a deeper black will lool much more realistic.

Werent there different lengths of the cape(s) in the movie(s)? I remember the cape lookimg significantly shorter when he drives the Batpod for example... Even my girlfriend mentioned that Bats did change his cape... :lol

Anyway I would be interested in a few too, depending on the price of course. 1 BB, 1 TDK and 1 for Batpod at least...

Correct, there were different lengths made. This pattern is of Bale's walking cape.

Both the dark knight and begins capes are exactly the same.

So will this new cape have some sewing involved or will it be cut from one piece of material? I'm curious to know what will be involved in making it. If there's one of yours capes I'll pick up, this sounds like the one I'll be getting.

I made my first prototype and have the basic concept of the template down. I think at 1/6 scale the actual template how the cape connects is just not feasable as it will take many people modding their figures. I will make the capes using the exact dimensions of the hero cape template but the way the cape connects to a 1/6 will remain close to the same I am using now. The cape would definitely work at a little larger scale but I would need real 1/6 cape clips and mod the suit. If anyone would like a begins or tdk cape using the dimensions please let me know. I will only charge what I did using the other template. It is 25 shipped for both tdk and begins capes using the new dimensions.

intothevoid
09-07-2011, 08:55 AM
That's a shame

Out of curiousity what kind of modding are you talking about? I am never afraid to rip my stock figures apart :lol

I'll probably be in for new capes with the new dimensions though anyway

lforigno
09-07-2011, 09:02 AM
There are 4 holes in the cape that need to attach to the Cape clips which in turn have to be in the suit which is in the wrong place to begin with so you would have to punch out new holes of the begins suit.

lforigno

At 1/4 scale or 1/3 scale this would work but with the rubber used by hot toys it is just more realistic to use the template but connect it using the same type of design but possibly modified slightly.

It is the actual design of the cape used on the film and was bales main walking cape and the cape you saw in the shots where the entire cape is shown. It will be made using the exacts measurements from the length, to the width, and even the height at which the scallops go up.

I think the velvet capes are slightly more shiny/reflective than the movie version and wondered if dying the capes could fix that.

No list just send payment to the paypal assess in the first post. They will attach exactly like my previous begins capes and a takara cape. It will ship right Over the long neck adapter. The dark knight style cape will be slightly different than before so that it is more accurate. Tdk cape will attach the same but the top portion will be a little different.

thats what I'm thinking about getting it for, but i want to see how it attaches...

for the DX02 Batman, you stuffed the cape ends into the slots where you'd normally but the cape clips in from the stock cape.

For the Begins cape, he made it like the takara batman cape, meaning that there was a hole cut out that you put the neck joint through then but the cowl sculpt over it

Is That The Velvet Or The Spandex Cape ?

lforigno
09-13-2011, 05:52 PM
That is the spandex version 1. The rayon capes are a little more expensive because I have to dye them. The velvet capes are great and don't Frey. People actually prefer the look of the velvet.

which do you think looks best on the BB figure (complementing the suit the best)? (not which is movie accurate)

lforigno
09-13-2011, 06:05 PM
Well personally I am using the dyed rayon. Many like the velvet and yes the rayon is more money due to all the work I put in but at 1/6 scale I think it looks better. Many may disagree and that is fine that is just my own opinion.

Because I got my new BB / TF exclusive OC but never bought Lance's TDK OC custom cape, only the TDK one.

Not hating on steve.giunta, but I think his pics don't show how great this new cape possibly is. Maybe some pics w/o flash, steve.giunta?

It looks to drape well at the back, but the front doesn't look as good as I'd hoped from those pics. possibly just the pics though

I agree dude, Steve's pics are not that flattering due to the flash and lack of focus.

I believe Lance ordered one of the new Begins Batmans so I guess he'll get his in the next week or so and then post pics himself

Hi there people. I'm a doofus and can't find comparison pics of the rayon vs. velvet capes. I have no idea which would be better on the new Batman Begins figure, the one that is just beginning to ship. Mine should show up on Friday, so I won't be ordering until next week at the earliest. Just to be sure, the protocol is:
--PM lforigno to state interest and provide my shipping info
--wait for him to reply with paypal info
--I cough up the dough
--he ships my cape with his next batch, whenever that might be.....?

Sorry of I'm being dense. Hey, I'm on medication. That's my excuse, and I'm stickin' to it.

I love how long it looks when he's standing. I love that you can drape it in different ways. Brings out a lot of character to a figure that's just standing there!

How does it look for an action pose? My TDK V1 Batman is raising both arms, one elbows bent with a batarang in that hand, and his legs are slightly spread apart and knees slightly bent. Had it like that for almost three years now and no rips or tears!

I never had a problem with the cape, but I'm thinking it'll look silly to have the BB suit with this and the TDK V1 without. But the other thought I have is it'll look silly for the action pose and take away from his suit by having too much cape. Thoughts? Anyone have their Batman posed in a dynamic action pose with these capes?

I absolutely love the velvet. I'm gonna order another cape since I also just received the Wayne BB figure. I'm waiting to see more pics of the dyed rayon though cause they seem to look better when its draped behind the shoulder where you see more of the body like the way Marf has his displayed. The velvet is thicker so personally, to me it looks better when its more of a dramatic look where its covering most of the body.

For all that are asking....
Clips are not included with the custom cape. You use the ones that come with your figure by taking them out of the stock cape, using a needle or small pair of scissors cut two small holes where you would put the pegs. Then put the custom cape on as you would the stock cape. Everyone get that?

Will that be the new 'Hero' template Mor (short one)? I went back and forth on which one to buy and Mag's Bats was my major reference. Finally after some research and getting clarification from Lance, I ordered one 'Hero' template. I am sure it will be perfect but would'nt it be great to have someone post two different pics of the Bats with both, long and short sized capes. I am sure it will be of a lot of help and great for reference purposes.

P.S.: The Xerowolf's Bat looks like the long one.

Yeah this is the long velvet cape.

Whoa! What base is that?

I made the label in the front.

That is the new green goblin base. I removed all the spiderman lettering and added my own.

Can the guys who got Lance's custom capes quickly answer me this before I deface my batman, do the cape clips need to be trimmed in order to lay flat against the suit? Right now they protrude and you can see a lot of peg. i cant seem to push them in further.

Also do the pins punch through the cape itself in any way?

That cape is certainly more screen accurate than mine. :)

I used a nail file to file down the pegs and make them a bit thinner so that I could push them down further and not have them protrude so much. Easy couple minutes work that isn't as drastic as trimming them down.

Hope that helps.

I didn't put any holes in mine. I just let the cape hang on the pegs since there was a slit and neck hole cut with it.

Thanks guys for the tips. I just bit the bullet and went ahead and did it. sanded down the clips so they lie flush with the suit. glad i did because now i can enjoy it! As always Lances capes totally make these figures. it's crazy to think they don't come out of the box like this!

I prefer the draped behind look as pictured above. I'm not that much of a fan for the over the shoulders look. It looks like Batman wrapped in a blanket down at the homeless shelter that way. He's much more badass looking when you can see his body.

I got the velvet.

You just take off the head, line up the cape where you want it and use a pin to poke starter holes into the cape. Then you can slide the pegs through the holes into the suit. Hardest part is getting the pegs into the suit, but that has nothing to do with the cape itself. Hope that helps :)

I had such a grippingly hard time getting one of my pegs snapped into the female end of the snaps. I was literally pushing it so hard my hands were shaking. Also that little triangle peg can start hurting your thumb. I was elated when I finally heard the click of success.

the guy sell us a $35 cape with no instruction on how to put in on?!?!? :dunno

I can take a shot at it but What if I mess up? Is he going to send me a replacment? I think he should have some kind of instruction on how to put in on...the cape have no holes.

It's super easy...took me five minutes. Like I said, all you have to do is place the cape where you want it on the headless body, poke holes throught the cape into the female end of the cape holders on the suit. then stick the peg through :)

the cape is very easy to put on and should need no instruction. Simply take the head sculpt off the body but leave the long neck adapter in and put the cape over the neck adapter. Than put the head back on the long neck adapter and you are done. You could either take the capes clips and push them through the cape or you could just push them through and not have the holes go through the cape. Finally you could also go for the more accurate route and remove the cape clips and either tape them or glue them to the correct positioning of the cowl.

okay thanks guys i got the cape on. The cape drapes pretty nice on batman. Much better then the hot toys one. Also the cut is pretty clean. lforigno did a great job. If anyone thinking about getting one go for it...it will make ur batman look so much better.

Well initially I wasn't sure where to put holes in. Because I saw some tiny slits on the inner cut of the area where the head goes through. So I naturally thought I should put it there and let it hang.

Then I realized and forgot that the pegs don't go fully in so it was not possible to keep it there. And sure enough after some period of time it did kinda stretch slightly due to the weight and how the fabric drapes.

So I put tinier peg holes for it about half a cm away from the slits and used those.

Now I have those pegs holding down the cloak along with the front part of the neck area just clutching onto the neck peg inside so it doesn't really go anywhere.

I have a feeling I will end up doing that. I'm taking my time to get used to the idea of permanently modifying the figure.

At that time I will most likely trip the bottom of the cowl off as well, but the idea is pretty damn scary. :panic:

Anyone else having a hard time taking out the neck adapter inside the cowl head sculpt?

I basically have to place my cape between the bottom of the neck and the actual body

Apologise if this has been answered earlier.

I have the short cape and was thinking of getting the long one as well. Question: Can I use the short one with DX02/TDK Bats? Or are they different, any advice would be much appreciated. Thanx! :wave
