View Full Version : SDCC Cow-hand Luke Arrived!!
07-19-2005, 02:13 PM
Just got him in 67/500, love the base! Tailoring is awesome as is the belt and the binaculars(sp?) look great in the hand. Im actually thinking of displaying him in his hat and poncho.
My ONLY compaint is the eyes, the person who painted the face put eye shadow on a little to much. Other than that I like him. The packaging is awesome!
07-19-2005, 02:42 PM
got mine too....Didn't open him yet, but it says 197 scribbled on the side....Packaging is fantastic!
07-19-2005, 02:42 PM
The eyes on my normal Luke look HORRIBLE! Very bad paint job. I need to contact Marc about a return I guess.
07-19-2005, 03:07 PM
Gru whats the difference between the two? I mean in the paint job?
07-19-2005, 03:14 PM
Hmm, the eyes on my regular Luke are perfect. Gruson, you have pics of yours? Also, for you guys who got the exclusive, post some pics! :D
07-19-2005, 03:27 PM
My Luke looks VERY hungover. The white part of the eye is not white at all. It's like the paint smeared all over the place and it's now a yellow color instead of white with other colors in there as well. It's really bad IMO.
I already sealed him in the box, waiting to hear from Marc from AlterEgo...no pics.
07-19-2005, 03:40 PM
It seems that in some of the pics of Luke, he is a little heavy on the eye shadow. I have seen a few good ones, but several where the outline of his eyes are very thick and dark. I am waiting anxiously for mine to arrive. If his eyes are too dark, I will have to make him wear those goggles from his floppy hat.
07-19-2005, 03:41 PM
Damn....guess I better open mine....I just have NO WHERE to put him at the moment..... :bang
07-19-2005, 05:18 PM
My Luke Exclusive should be here tomorrow. I'll let you guys know how he looks. Hopefully Bob will get the regular editions in soon, and I'll have that one to compare the two shortly.

Its that desert sand Gru, its terrible on the eyes, I think you should get it in a commercial with ben Stein for Clear Eyes drops :p Sorry could not resist... :balrog
07-20-2005, 04:43 AM
Just got my luke as well number 58 or 59 (i forget.) My first star wars piece and I can say i'm fairly impressed! The eyes do seem a little dark, but I'm wondering if they are suppose to be since he suppose to be wearing his gilligan hat. I agree the packaging was awesome I just don't know if I ever sell him if I'll remember how to get him back in the box!
07-20-2005, 01:20 PM
Luke Farmwalker arrived today.:banana This is my first 1/4 piece, and I'm VERY impressed. Luke is actually my least favorite of the 5 announced, so for me to be blown away by this one is a good sign. I can't imagine my reaction to Vader and Grievous. :thud
The poncho needs some ironing, though. I guess I'll have to employ my SO's skills whenever I get a new piece. My regular Luke also shipped today from Bob, along with my Code 3 ANH poster.:banana It's a great time to be a Star Wars fan. I'm with Gruson, now. 1/4 Premium ONLY. This stuff is beyond compare, and is almost like a "prop replica" in terms of accuracy. I can't decide whether to keep both, or if the Farmboy will be put out to pasture. I don't really like the poncho and hat enough to keep this piece, so I'll probably Ebay it in September when my AT-AT comes and I need the money. GREAT start to the line!
07-20-2005, 01:38 PM
I was completely blown away by my first 1/4 figure, everything about them just screams quality! :bow
07-20-2005, 04:55 PM
I actually like the exclusive's for Luke, looks pretty cool cant wait to get notice on Han now!
07-21-2005, 02:04 PM
Here's Luke #197. Thankfully, he does not have too much eyeliner on. I prefer to display him with the goggles. It reminds me of Peter O'Toole from the beginning of Lawrence of Arabia.
This one completes the effect...

:rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin
07-21-2005, 02:16 PM
Wow, that is interesting! :rollin
07-21-2005, 03:22 PM
THAT IS AWESOME!!!:rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin

07-21-2005, 06:45 PM
It's a Star Wars kind of day! I got Medicom Vader and both my Lukes!
I gots to say - the new 1/4 scale packaging is kicking! squeaky styrofoam always creeped me out and it flakes off everywhere.
I haven't opened the exclusive - but I love the regular one. I realized as I was setting it up I was humming Luke's theme.
And what are all these complaints about the hands? Once freed of their foam gloves the one on his knee snapped down and it looks very natural there.
I love the PF monsters, but I'm really going to love these SW 1/4s.
07-21-2005, 09:36 PM
The hands on mine fell right into place too. I finally received the acrylic case for my 1/4 Luke today. Man this piece looks great! Even better now that he's in his home. ;) :D
07-21-2005, 09:53 PM
I still need to order mine, what did it cost you Mini Rock? :dunno
07-21-2005, 09:58 PM
About $104. Shipping is what killed me though. :doh
07-22-2005, 01:29 AM
Mini Rock can you post a pic of your Luke in it's display case?
Thinking of doing that myself & wondered how it looks.
07-22-2005, 04:11 AM
No problem. You can see it HERE. (http://community-2.webtv.net/Mini-Rock/SideshowLuke/) :)
07-22-2005, 04:14 AM
What's the dimensions of your acrylic case?
07-22-2005, 04:18 AM
Oops! I forgot to put that on the page. It's 12"w X 12"d X 20"h.
07-22-2005, 11:17 AM
WOW! That looks awesome displayed like that very nice.

07-22-2005, 11:28 AM
Hey Rock where do you snag those nice cases?
07-22-2005, 11:43 AM
Azog, he stated before that he buys them at Casesforcollectibles.com

07-22-2005, 11:58 AM
Did not see that in this thread, thanks el!
07-22-2005, 12:24 PM
Yup! That's the place. A case for this piece is a must IMO. :)
07-22-2005, 12:29 PM
A case or some serious moth-ball protection! :google
07-22-2005, 12:49 PM
You got that right! You know, I hadn't seen a moth in months, but the first time I unwrapped my Luke, on flew in the door when my kids came in from playing. Talk about paranoid. :lol
07-25-2005, 06:24 AM
can you guys advice me on this:
the right leg doesnt fit in all the way while the left leg is already resting on the base. i'm sure it shouldnt be like this, looks like i've got to get a replacement?
07-25-2005, 07:42 AM
You got that right! You know, I hadn't seen a moth in months, but the first time I unwrapped my Luke, on flew in the door when my kids came in from playing. Talk about paranoid.
Well, MR, I will probably be encasing all the items after seeing your web pages. Mightily impressive!!!:bow
07-25-2005, 08:17 AM
Noelchiew, did you try and see if there is an obstruction in the peg hole? Since it's not tight I can imagine any other reason it wouldn't go all the way in.
07-25-2005, 09:10 AM
on a side note, anyone still looking for the Exclusive Luke, PM me.
07-25-2005, 09:13 AM
i would think so if the left leg is also suspended in the air.
but like i said above, the left leg is already resting on the rock, which prevents the right leg with the peg from going any deeper.
here's another look:
07-25-2005, 10:17 AM
Hard to say, I guess the peg could be too long. Looks like it might be a return, but I'm sure you'd rather do a quicky fix up yourself if possible.
07-25-2005, 10:41 AM
noelchiew, yeah, get a replacement. Mine slipped right in with no problems; however, Luke does swivel to the left about 2-3 inches even though the peg is all the way in. Not a big deal to me since it won't move unless I do it myself.
Gaz, thanks dood! It'll be a little expensive for you at first but totally worth it man. :D
07-25-2005, 02:31 PM
I just got my Regular Luke today. It looks good except the hand floating over the knee is really bothering me. It's funny, because I always thought the right hand would be a problem but the left hand just looks strange floating out there. I didn't notice that on the Exclusive, but I don't have both on display at the moment to compare. Most of my stuff is packed up waiting for my impending move on Thursday.
I also got the Code 3 ANH plaque, which is pretty cool. It doesn't look good up close or compared to the regular poster art, but it should look OK hanging on the wall. The SW ones look much better than the LOTR ones. I think it's because the human likenesses aren't so prominently displayed.
I'm starting to put together a nice SW collection.
07-25-2005, 02:39 PM
el, have you thought of tying some string/thread around the hand and leg to bring the hand down to the knee? I would think after a few months it would stay. Either that or just let gravity take care of it over time.
Congrats on your Code3 ANH sculpture aquisition too. I love these little pieces. It's a nice refreshing alternative to the regular flat posters; and, at $80, it's a steal! :)
07-25-2005, 02:41 PM
Great to hear, El. :toast
From reading posts about this Luke figure, there doesn't seem to be anyone who's 100% happy with their purchase.:\ I decided to cancel mine...and may cancel the others I have on order. I have high hopes for the 12" line, and will no doubt buy a few though not all.
I am saving like crazy for the $1600 worth of Kong stuff coming later this year, on top of Code 3.:thud Thank god for the instalment plan.
07-25-2005, 03:05 PM
I think there are lots of people 100% pleased with Luke, I know I am. My only problem is where the hell do I put him?
07-25-2005, 03:06 PM
Luke always was the weakest of the line so far Jon.......I wouldn't cancel all based on Luke.
07-25-2005, 03:13 PM
Yeah, I've always said that Luke is my least favorite, and right now I'm leaning towards keeping the Exclusive over the Regular. I was blown away by the Exclusive right out of the box, but not as much by the Regular. Maybe because I had seen it before? :lol
Kenobi, Vader, Han, and Grievous are all just about perfect. I would be 100% satisfied with Luke if he wasn't Jedi "floating hands."
Gaz, I think you see one of these in person before you write them off. I know they're expensive, but they're worth it, IMO. BTW, I saw your GG CW Maquettes on Ebay. I thought you loved those? I do and I can't wait for Wave 2. :rock
07-25-2005, 07:08 PM
Mini-Rock, I just looked at your Luke pics, and yours looks much better than mine. Did you move the hands at the elbow since there is some limited movement there? I've managed to get them into a position I like, but they always move back. Maybe that combination of string/gravity is a good idea.
07-25-2005, 09:53 PM
No, I didn't have to move mine at all. When I removed the packaging around the hands, they fell right into place. I was actually very surprised when that happened. If I had gotten one that didn't though, I wouldn't mess with it at all by bending the arms using my hands. I'm too paranoid. I imagine over time that the left hand will fall into place though; and, if I got impatient, the string thing could work too. Hey! You got pics?
07-26-2005, 12:36 PM
Well, my Luke has been sitting his is box patiently waiting to be taken out...So I finally did...
Pretty cool....I love the Microbinoculars in his hand rather than his belt! The poncho actually doesn't look that bad thrown over his right shoulder so you can see part of his belt and binocs...
I got a pretty good edition number too....
07-26-2005, 12:44 PM
Congrats Sir T. Now, make with the pics! :D
07-26-2005, 01:46 PM
The hand on my Luke rests right on the leg.
07-26-2005, 06:41 PM
No problems with my Luke at all. I absolutely love it. I have him displayed in an oak and glass display case my husband made, he looks awesome. His hand rests very nicely on his knee. I have taken pics but the flash makes him look garish. He does not look that way in natural light , especially in the display case. I am 100% satisfied with him.
07-26-2005, 07:35 PM
This pic doesn't represent Luke as he appears in natural light.

07-26-2005, 08:22 PM
Here's mine...I like it with the poncho thrown over...The belt is too cool not to see it!
Love the lipstick on Luke! :lol
07-26-2005, 09:41 PM
I like the way you have that displayed, Sir T, with his poncho up. It looks like he just got done looking through his binocs. If you can, don't use the flash though. :)
07-26-2005, 09:54 PM
Yeah, that was a quick pic on a table after I took him ou tof the box...I haven't decided where to put him yet...
I am in the midst of placing my LOTR collection (swords, etc...) and that is taking a lot longer than I thought....So my Sideshwo collection is having to wait until that stuff is finished before they get a solid place to stand for a while...
07-26-2005, 10:07 PM
If you can, don't use the flash though.
I'm glad you knew what I was saying because after reading that part again, it seemed kinda rude. Hope I didn't offend. Anyway, great idea on displaying Luke like that, and thanks for the pic. :)
07-28-2005, 03:50 PM
I got my regular Luke yesterday and opened him today. I was very impressed. I can't wait for more of this line to get released. I'd read some complaints about Luke's face looking like he had lipstick or eye shadow on, but mine didn't have any of those issues.
Mini Rock, what size case did you order for Luke? I still haven't decided if I want to get the same size case for each figure (excluding Grevious) or get a different size case based on the height of each figure.
07-28-2005, 05:22 PM
Gaz, I think you see one of these in person before you write them off. I know they're expensive, but they're worth it, IMO. BTW, I saw your GG CW Maquettes on Ebay. I thought you loved those?
Oh, I'm not writing it off, I'm merely remarking that many collectors have received theirs with certain facial anomalies. :)
Yep, I do (did) love them...but sadly they became sacrificial lambs to fund something utterly mundane...my booklist for Year 2. :rolleyes
If like me a new semester beckons...money becomes tight. All I can say is, I relish the day I receive a paycheck again...but unfortunately that won't be anytime soon.
Sure I've bought some nice things, and will continue to buy select pieces...but I have to have a tight rein on my spending. :|
Life can be a @#%$ at times!
07-28-2005, 06:42 PM
tomandshell, why not try another way to using the accessories.
convert the poncho into some dress and the goggles to a bra, and we have a drag! :clap
07-28-2005, 08:47 PM
Richard, I originally got a 12"w X 12"d X 20"h case, but ended up getting another 12"w X 10"d X 20"h case that I think fits better. Either will work though. :)
07-29-2005, 03:52 AM
Cool. Thanks for the reply!
07-30-2005, 07:50 AM
Sorry to intrude in your thread, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I was able to pick up one of these at Con. So if anyone wants him, please pm me...
07-30-2005, 12:27 PM
Here's a picture:
I have more picture of the SDCC and the regular Luke here:
motoblue - 1/4 Luke (http://home.att.net/~motoslave/SS4/Luke-PE.htm)
I like them both immensely. Both also have the floating hands syndrome but it doesn't bother me too much. Too bad I am still setting up my media room so only one can be displayed at a time, but it woul look kind of weird to have both up anyway, since they're almost identical. I'll have the same issues with my Hans when they come, I'm sure.
07-30-2005, 12:35 PM
looks like i'm the only one with a cripple luke. :\
07-30-2005, 12:57 PM
08-02-2005, 03:23 AM
Was playing around with the Luke farmer figure... and here's another way of wearing his clothes
08-02-2005, 04:55 AM
Man. he looks like a British tourist on vacation in the Costa Del Sol. :lol :\
08-02-2005, 08:19 AM
And who says there's no play value in the 1/4 scale figures...
Azog of Moria
08-03-2005, 05:11 AM
I agree Dave, I am still waiting for the first 1/4 custom, which I bet will come with Han, as people strive to creat Indiana customs...
08-03-2005, 06:25 AM
I got my Luke yesterday. Overall, it's very nice. The belt, the hat and the goggles I like very much. Don't really care for the poncho. It just doesn't sit right. I'm sure it would need to be washed to loosen it up and get rid of the creases (from being folded in the package) and make it more floppy. I like the binoculars in his hand look much more than the regular edition. I've displayed mine without the poncho. Not sure if I'm going to keep Luke so I don't want to do anything with the poncho until I'm sure. Also, the new packaging was much better along with the outer sleeve and graphic design of the box as well.
08-03-2005, 08:48 AM
Weird. That's the first Luke I've seen that has the left foot rested on the base like that Fritz.
08-03-2005, 08:58 AM
It can be manipulated a little but that just how it sits right out of the box. I assume you are talking about his toe sticking up a little?
08-03-2005, 09:04 AM
Yeah, that's what I meant. All the other Luke's I've seen, including the one I own, have the toe resting on the base and the heel off of it a bit.
08-03-2005, 09:07 AM
Actually, I guess I lucked out since it probably looks more natural with the toe sticking up because typically you'd put your heel down first. :clap
08-03-2005, 09:13 AM
It's definitely the only one I've seen with the left foot like that. You may have a one-of-a-kind there Fritz. 8)
08-03-2005, 09:25 AM
So glad I cancelled mine. No offence guys.:)
08-05-2005, 04:29 AM
Got my Invoice / 21 day notice from EU warehouse for Exclusive Luke from the wait list.
No e-mail to say they had converted the waitlist to an order!
Still, I'm kind of looking forward to it now.:rock
08-05-2005, 10:47 PM
is my cripple luke one of a kind as well? :p
replacement is on it's way from ss. hope it's a ok piece.
the bino is different in some way btw the regular and exclusive version fritz?
08-08-2005, 02:27 AM
Man, this piece is sooooo much more impressive 'in the flesh' than in any of the pictures I've seen, no matter how good they are! The likeness is just spot on IMO!
Bring on Ex. Han!!!!!!!!!!!! :banana :banana :banana
Anyone know a good place to buy display cases in the UK? Any help would be appreciated, thanks! :hat
08-08-2005, 02:58 AM
my replacement luke arrived. i've a couple of questions.
does the peg seem very tight and you have to really use force to push it down? is the tip of the left leg sticking out of the rock a little or is it well inside? does the whole foot rest nicely on the rock, i noticed there's some groove near the heel where it seems the feet is supposed to sit there.
08-08-2005, 10:24 AM
The peg on my Luke went into the stand easily, and the foot is flush with the base. I have noticed, though, that 90% of the statues I have owned have the peg sticking up a bit, and some pegs fit while others are a PITA to get in. You got any pics? :)
08-08-2005, 11:29 AM
Luke's left foot is not flush to the base (in mine). The top part is but the back part is not....oh well.
I am not risking finding another Luke with a good paint job....
08-08-2005, 02:22 PM
OOPS! I better clarify. The left foot only rests a third on the base (on mine) and the right foot, with the peg, goes all the way in and is flush with the base. :)
08-08-2005, 06:48 PM
I never would have noticed this if it weren't for this thread, but my Luke's left foot hovers over the base about 1/10 of a millimeter. Seems like there's a lot of range in how the legs are positioned on the different Lukes. I guess I should open my exclusive version to see how he stands...
08-09-2005, 08:35 PM
sorry if i sound stupid, but yesterday i went to a frn's place and he had the regular luke. i noticed the binos are on his belt and i asked about it, he said it came as an accessory. but i looked at my exclusive luke and it looks like it's fixed perm on this palm? i dare not try to see if i could pull it out.
i thought the only difference was the poncho, hat and goggles. in regards to the right leg, my dad was able to use his strength and shove the peg in. now it's more or less flat on the base. and after doing this, it's no longer that tight at first. no more a virgin now... :naughty
i will get back with a pic of the left leg.
08-09-2005, 09:24 PM
Yes, the binocs are permanently attached in the hand of the exclusive whereas they are loose on the regular version and intended to be hung from the belt.
08-09-2005, 09:38 PM
Is there a difference in the sculpt of the right hand between the regular and the exclusive?
08-10-2005, 02:07 AM
yes, now that i know the difference in the binos as mentioned above.
it seems the the regular luke's right hand is more like touching his thighs while the exclusive luke is holding the binos as if he's going to use it or have already used it and is resting. something like that i believe.
08-10-2005, 09:44 AM
Got my Luke exclusive today (from wait list). Its my 1st 1/4 PF & I am well impressed. The packaging is much better than the LOTR statues - the sponge foam cut to shape is very professional & makes repacking easier.
The figure is a very good likeness & not over heavy on the makeup as some have reported. This item must not photograph that well cause it looks fantastic in person (& I am not the biggest Luke fan).
If Sideshow keep up the quality on the upcoming releases, this range will be the definitive Star Wars figure range. Expensive, but well worth it. Just put myself on the regular Han wait list & already got exclusive Vader & Ben ordered. I think I will collect the main OT figures till space / money runs out. Also got to get them in a glass / perspex case to preserve the cloth.
08-10-2005, 02:16 PM
The figure is a very good likeness & not over heavy on the makeup as some have reported.
Like the LOTR polystones, there is a lot of variation on the paint application. I have seen three of these exclusive Lukes and two had been over painted as reported. Luckily I got one I'm VERY happy with! I guess so do you.
The only thing that bothers me about the piece is the two-tone boots... the color of the leg wrap part doesn't match as closely to the painted polystone foot part as the prototype showed. And I've yet to see one that does... including the regular version.
08-10-2005, 04:44 PM
Aren't the leg wraps a seperate piece of clothing and shouldn't necessarily match the boots?
08-11-2005, 08:30 AM
The only PF I have left on order are Grievous, Vader and the Endoskeleton.
08-11-2005, 09:47 AM
Aren't the leg wraps a seperate piece of clothing and shouldn't necessarily match the boots?
Gee... since BOTH the shoes from the original film AND the prototype closely matched (not EXACT, mind you but CLOSE) in color I would have hoped the final production would too.
Just cruise back to the those pre-order pix and you will see what I mean. Plus, I took TONS of pictures from the 2004 SDCC (I was VERY excited about the newly announced line)and the boots were perfect!
Besides, out of ALL the Tatooine Lukes that have EVER been made, this is the ONLY example where colors of the shoes and the wraps are SO different from each other.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this piece. I have the rest on pre-order. I just wish that this slight oversight was corrected. Has anybody done any customizing to get the boots more correctly colored?
I'm too scared to! :google
08-11-2005, 10:00 AM
Has anybody done any customizing to get the boots more correctly colored?
Ohhh, blasphemy!!!! :p I raised this a while ago, and the reception I got was colder than a blast of liquid N2 on the nads!
08-11-2005, 11:15 AM
Shouldn't be too difficult - some diluted paint....and if you mess up you can always bleach it back I guess.
08-11-2005, 10:18 PM
Well, I just received my regular PF Luke as well. It's strange to see the original design after looking at the exclusive for the last few weeks. Am I crazy to keep them both or what? :google
His left foot rests a 1/4 inch to the left more than my exclusive, exposing the flat undetailed area in the sand where the foot is suppose to be. Oh well... I'm just happy I got another Luke with a really good paint job!
However, I have a question concerning the regular piece. (Perhaps I should start a new thread for this, but here goes...) I had a hard time putting the macrobinocs on his belt. I want to have his belt buckle in the middle but with the binocs there, I had to rotate the belt to the right to get them on the hook properly. As I was trying to do this it occured to me... it's this hook for his lightsaber? Sure at this time in the film, Kenobi had yet to give it to him. So I looked at the pictures I have of this scene and I noticed that the binocs look like they attach directly over the belt buckle. Has anybody else noticed this?
(On a side note: Now that ROTS is out, isn't it weird to think that the lightsaber that ole Ben so lovingly hands to Luke as a family heirloom is the SAME lightsaber used to slaughter innocent Jedi and younglings? "Gee thanks Ben... you could have clean the blood off before you gave it to me!")
Heart Of Stone
08-13-2005, 01:15 AM
I don't get it ! :rolleyes
His hands look perfectly normal to me ! :dunno
