I never heard of Kickstarter.com before last week when it was mentioned on an episode of the Forcecast. Now, I've made my first pledge for what I feel is a worthy cause. I gave a donation to the Lars Homestead last year, and while they've already made the amount needed to trek out to the site and restore the structure, there is a new project in motion to create a limited run of watches with "real Tatooine sand" inside.

Currently at $17,148 with a goal of $22,760 before the project will get off the ground. There are many options to give with a regular version of the watch being only $77, and a limited version being $107 (with your name engraved on the back. Originally they were going to limit the limited run to 1138, but have since decreased that number to 250, so not to many to go around. The project only happens if they reach the goal mentioned above. Check it out!

Curious, if the goal is not reached and project does not happen, do donors get their money back?

Those who pledge are never charged until full funding happens. It's like nothing ever happened, and the project simply does not get off the ground.

Anybody decided to make a pledge here? I just received an update on the project, and it is still up in the air if it's going to make the goal. Last week they put out the idea to restart the project with a lower goal, but now that may be off the table depending on Kickstarter...

Hello Pledgers,

We MAY have a problem with the suggested relaunch.

I'm not exactly sure why but the good folks at Kickstarter seem to be reluctant to allow me to start another Tatooine Project with a lower goal !

Kickstarter is a young company and I sense policies and principles evolving somewhat as they grow. I originally was told that a relaunch was fine but when I attempted it, it was vetoed. Not sure why.

Anyway, we still have 15 days to go and perhaps we can still hit the goal with this existing project !

As before: Spread the word! We only need to pledge 3 watches per day over the next 15 days. I think we can do it!

Best, Thomas

Wow, what a difference a day makes ! The pledges are flooding in today.

A number of people have contributed to this turn of affairs; some of which_I know and some I don’t know (not yet)._ Please let me know if you have been actively promoting this Kickstarter Project so I can publicly thank you !

So, a BIG THANK YOU to the following recent contributors:

1) Whitney Matheson at USATODAY. Whitney was kind enough to feature us in her enormously popular POPCANDY column today. https://content.usatoday.com/commun...d-filled-star-wars-watch-heres-your-chance-/1
While you are there, check out some of her back editions and be prepared to spend some time, she reviews some very interesting things._ By the way, I sent the actual copy to Whitney on the Tatooine Project but the idea to approach POPCANDY really belongs to Wade Blomgren who suggested it to me and others.

2) Chris Wyman at THEFORCE.NET. Chris has been a big supporter of the Save The Lars Homestead Expedition and has backed our Tatooine Kickstarter Project for some time. He just posted another update of the Project today on his website’s Latest News section. https://www.theforce.net/latestnews/story/Tatooine_Sand_Wristwatches_139218.asp
By the way, if you are a StarWars fan and you haven’t been to THEFORCE.NET, you’ve got to visit it !_

3) Jimmy McInerney and Jason Swank at the WEEKLY FORCECAST at THEFORCE.NET. Jimmy and Jason have discussed the Tatooine Memorabilia several times on their show. In particular, with Guest Mark Dermul they spend quite some time considering the watches. You can hear it here: _https://www.legendarytime.com/kickstarter/force_cast.wma
By the way, if you haven’t listened to the WEEKLY FORCECAST, you are missing a huge treat. These guys are really fun to listen to. Listen to just 10 mins of any FORCECAST and I guarantee you will be hooked.

4) Both Ultra-Cool websites FASHIONABLY GEEK and NERD APPROVED ran stories about the Tatooine Memorabilia Kickstarter Project. A big thanks to both of them!

5) Sujeet at GUYSGAB messaged me some time ago and asked if he could feature the Tatooine Watch Project in one of his Daily Newsletters. He just posted it: https://www.guysgab.com/star-wars-fans-help-save-a-piece-of-movie-history/
Visit https://www.guysgab.com/_ for some great content._ Thanks Sujeet and really cool site too!

I'll bet we hit the goal this weekend!

Best, Thomas

For the record, I hate watches. I use my phone for the time like everybody else. But this one is just so cool, and I like the fringe elements of the Star Wars universe of collectibles.

All that being said...

Do it! Three amigos! :hi5:
