Without EB and Medicom, prices would rise and we would be powerless to stop it. EB do make great figures and the market needs them.

I don't think having competition is keeping pricing in check, if that were the case, what good is selling UU Jack Sparrow for $300 with less in the box than HT's $250 Jack. If anything, the HT should drive down the UU price so that despite coming with less, it would be the better bargain and win sales.

No argument there. The UU line on its own seems to be completely oblivious to the collecting market. But I think their just trying to break even with the high prices. They dont seem to care about actually selling the things

Medicom has ALWAYS been ridiculous expensive. I paid $200 for the RAH Jedi Luke back in '05 or something. Back when Sideshow was still selling $40 figures. That figure blew my mind back when I first got it. The body moved so smoothly, it was so poseable. The clothing fit so well. Mind you, this is compared to Hasbro's stuff and Sideshow's stuff back in the day. Everything is relative to right now.

Anyways, the truth of the matter is, about 10% of Medicom's cost is just the added taxes and shipping fees that they have to pay to import their goods back to Japan.

Disgrace to 1/6 collecting. Everything is just wrong with this figure. The only thing I would want is the head sculpt and talking body. I think the sculpt is OK. The talking feature is pretty cool. Repaint the head, throw the HT DX clothes on it. And you can have a kick *** talking Jack. :exactly:

Idk, I've sculpted Depp twice before, and while my sculpts may not be as good as these, I know Depp's face and right now, for me EB has HT beat with the smirking face. HT serous face though is pure Depp.

but it surprises me how different the one medicom has in this video looks vs the one that EB had in their video. In this video, the head looks a lot more narrow and elongated to me, The phrases sound pretty nice and clear though I wish some of them would've had the whole line instead of just cutting off like how they left off "savvy?" in the "My name's Captain Jack Sparrow_____"

Honestly, the paint job for the HS is top notch. It's as good as any recent HT release.

I have to say this, at certain angles (like the 1 I posted) the Medicom ver looks more like Johnny Depp as compared to the HT version.

I tried taking pics of both heads in the same angle, with the eye positioned to the same direction but it just doesn't look right on the HT ver. Something bout the translucent iris makes it harder to photograph correctly.

That said, the Medicom Jack's eyes are very well painted. You can even see they painted those little blood veins on the eyes.

I'll try to see if I can borrow my GF's Macro lens to take better detail shots.

It's really too bad Enterbay didn't just make this by themselves, the parts that turned out really good are their contribution and the so-so parts are Medicom. Medicom's look is still the sort of toyish, cartoony style it's always been, and sticking high end work like EB turns out with that just doesn't work.

You are exactly, correct. When I was taking photos, etc. that's the conclusion I cam up with as well...anything's fixable, though.
Another weird thing is some of the parts are scaled for regular Medi figures and they come out looking a bit too small. With some of the new parts/clothes you think they would have changed those. Belts/buckles (especailly the larger one) are too small. Gun, sword are the same molds form the 1st Medi release. Hands are really nice.
The Long Coat is tucked behind and is a little longer than what the photo shows...but still could be a tad larger.

I don't think SS has started shipping them yet. I'm not getting it right away but when it goes on clearence at BBTS I will. I actually do like the talking feature and plan on making this one into a COTBP version or Thayer enhancing my current COTBP figure with this ones sculpt, body and hands.

If you can get it cheap it's worth for the head and hands. The rest of the figure is horrible and as an overall package not worth the asking price. The plastic part of the neck crumbled in my hands when I tried to pull the head off and the posability is limited by the voice feature.

I've been wanting to buy this for a while and one came up really cheap on ebay - and as it's my birthday I had some money to put towards it.

Pros:
the headsculpt - I really like it. Paints very good, good expression. The hair is extremely soft and easy to work with. The bandana is cloth and looks great from the back - very natural.

The hat is fantastic. Shaped like the first 3 films it looks great - way too big for the HT fig though.

The sash is very very good. Hangs well and looks very worn and weathered.

The hands are superb - easy to swap, very realistic and are in very Jack like poses.

The shirt is brilliant - massive neckline just like the film which leads to the body - it is some sort of fake skin on top of the plastic body underneath. You can press it and it's like pressing a HT Batman figure for those of you who have one.


Cons:
The waistcoat is unforgivable.

The belts are disgusting as is the dead fur thing that is on one of them.

Boots are awful.

Guns are very toylike.

Stand is poor.

The coat is not as good as the RAH Jack - however, with work, I feel it could look good.

Having both in hand, which sculpt do you prefer?

I think both sculpts have positive features. If I compared them I'd say the HT head seems too small but the forehead of the Medi seems a little big. I think the skin colour on the Medi is more life-like. I think I prefer the HT hair and the moveable eyes. The facial hair on the Medi is more realistic and the face shape is closer to Depp's than the HT. The darker hair on the Medi allows it to be used for COTB style Jack whereas the hair on the Stranger Tides HT Jack is very film specific.

No, it doesn't. Jack comes with an Medicom body with lone ankle extensions, enterbay hands and rubber chest. You can remove the ankle ext. and replace them with HT ankle extensions that you find or modify yourself.

This is my attempt at mashing the two together -

In terms of parts, it's the HT body with the 'chest skin' from the Medi.
HT boots, trousers, vest, belts and guns. Sword belt is Neca. Shirt is Medi as are the head, hands and compass. Like it this way becuase I can simply swap heads over whenever I feel like it rather than having two figures of the same character. I prefer to have one ultimate fig rather than two ok ones.

Hey Jokes, head looks good on the ht body, doesn't seem to be any proportion issues. And if you add the overcoat too, i think it would really be ok. Is the neck adaptor the same?

Cheers guys - the Neca fig was from Dead Man's Chest but it's the same belt as On stranger Tides so it worked perfectly. I haven't tried him with the coat on yet so that will be the next thing I do. The neck adapter on the Medi head is a ball joint which is slightly too small for the HT body but it still fits and allows a full range of movement.

Finally got him! I love it! Sculpt looks great great great, very realistic! So is the hat and some of the costume! So are the hands, in scale :)

Hmm. That's funny and odd. Weird that NECA's baldric would have the embossed patterned that is on the OST one. It's like they knew a head before the film was even made!! :panic:

Haven't had the time mate. And I have stopped posting pics for a while. But I was very impressed when I got it. Only the recent pics on here do it any justice. Mixed with some of the HT gear it looks astounding.

I've always loved the sculpt of Enterbay's Sparrow. Was gutted when I first found out how expensive it was. Was pretty lucky to score one recently for a really great price. Combined with HT, it makes a great combo.

The good stuff: (pretty much reiterate what member Jokes and Bats have mentioned)
The paintjob is excellent right down to the lips. Excellent excellent paintjob, love the skin color. I also love the facial structure. Very close to Johnny Depp.
The cloth bandana also gives it a more realistic look. I am currently waiting on a RAH Sparrow trenchcoat so I plan to display him with the hat on, but I'm almost tempted to keep it like it is cause I dont want to cover the bandana. I dont like the trenchcoat without the hat look so if I do use the coat, the hat has to be used.
The hat is sweet...much much better than HT's. Has a weathered look to it also and much better material than the cheap paperlike material HT used.

The shirt is great. It has a large chest opening which leads to one of the best feature of EB sparrow...The rubber chest.
One of the minor nitpicks I have with the HT (emphasis on nitpick cause HT Sparrow is still one of HT's best...if not, The best figure) is the plasticky chest. You want to show it more much like the movie, but it gives off a sheen hard plasticky look. Eb provided a tight rubber turtle neck tanktop that goes over the body so when covered with the shirt, it gives off a more fleshy look.

The hands are great, proportions and the gesture is cool.
The 2 cups are cool.
Lastly, the sash is magnificent, very worn, drapes naturally.


Everything else...trash.
The talking feature is just a gimmick. The rest of the clothes are too cheap looking.
Overall, I'm extremely happy with the Enterbay/HT combo. Its the Ultimate Unison (sorry Medicom)

Yeah, I've been wanting one for awhile now Gipetto, I really like it a lot.

seeing the sculpt and the rubber (flesh look) of the chest, my opinion, I think they were really aiming for a masterpiece. Cause they could have gone with just a sculpted neck. But the fact that they actually made a rubber chest, I think initially, they were aiming really big. The hat, the hands, the shirt, they are all topnotch.

Seems to me, they probably ended up focusing a lot of attention on those details, then end up having a race with HT, and probably running out of time, resources...everything else came short.

I'll be using mine for a COTBP custom. I've got all thats necessary to change this sculpt to accurate COTBP Jack. Once I get some other custom figures out of the way, I'm going I get the baldric custom made with a possible metal buckle as well as the waist belt custom made. Tired of the plastic ones the medi comes with. Then I'll finally have my ultimate first movie Jack

Indeed it is man. The paintjob is superb, one of the best I've seen. Its funny how last year, I'd figure Enterbay is dead in the water. Now all of a sudden, I'm a big Enterbay fan. I looked at the general section and its mostly enterbay...Rambo 3, MI3, 1/6 blacklabel PF, Bruce Lee, elvis, michael jordan...they have definitely proven they're still a force to reckon with.

Inspired by the Madam Tussaud's Jack Sparrow, I went ahead and added hair on mine to make it similar. So I cut strips of lamb hair and inserted it in between the rubber hair of the headsculpt. I think it turned out great. Looks really good in hand. Its not permanent so it can be easily be removed.

Thanks JB. My initial plan was to cover up all the sculpted hair and to mix the faux hair with some braided faux hair. But actually, in hand, the faux hair blends extremely well with the sculpted ones so I left the sculpted ones as the braided hair to go along with the faux hair.
It really does look great in hand, I'm very happy with the results cause along with the well tailored clothes and the cloth bandana, it adds another level of realism.

Hope you're planning also on mixing it with the HT DX. The figure doesnt shine unless its the combo as a lot of the parts that's supplied my Medicom such as the vest, pants and boots are plain toyish looking trash.
Night and day difference though meshed with DX.

I'm very very happy how this combo and mod has turned out, gotta say it has exceeded my expectations.
Really brings out humanlike qualities on the figure.
eBay is your best route for the hair mod. I wouldnt know where to find them in big D.
Just search for mohair doll hair. I believe they are either lamb or goat hair.

Yea, that madam Tussaud sparrow is sick. Madam Tussaud is known for the most excellent reproduction of artists on wax. Theyre the ones that usually unveil their latest wax figure by having the celebrity pose next to the wax counterpart and you try to figure out which one is real.

This figure just seems to keep getting cheaper on the aftermarket which is quite interesting as usual Ultimate Unison figures, aside from the Star Wars ones I guess, seem to do quite well in Asia.

I see it go for something like $130 on Japanese sites. Very cheap. Ebay is never a good place to judge prices especially for Medicom and Enterbay stuff. Medicom stuff tends to always go for very cheap on the aftermarket in Japan, but Ebay sellers always try to go for crazy prices.

Well finally just took the plunge and got this guy. BBTS had this on Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale for $199 and I had $33 in store credit so it just seemed like the best time to buy it. Will finally be able to get most of my COTBP Jack finally done and have that awesome talking feature

Ok so I got this in today and am pleasantly surprised to be honest.

Sculpt/paint are much better than HT overall. Hair is better on HT but as for looking like Depp, this sculpt is it. only Depp sculpt that rivals it would be HT Sweeney Todd. The fabric cloth bandana is a very nice touch that I wish HT did. The "skin" on the chest is also a nice touch, something HT should've done as well instead of just leaving it as hard plastic

Clothing is mostly better on HT BUT I'd take the shirt and jacket over HT. I know most ppl don't like this jacket, but I know the screen jacket down to the material and the UU one is more accurate in the material used, color (though color isn't 100%), lining and the way it hangs on the body. It's not as rigid as the HT one. only thing it lacks are the "real" butons which i will take from my spare HT and put on this

OK been working on this for awhile. I HATE the Enterbay dreadlocks but lOVE the sculpt. So, decided to take the HT dreadlocks and attach them to the Enterbay sculpt. Could not be happier with the outcome! Let me know what you guys think.

I'm not a hardcore PotC fan, but there was a deal for this figure from a seller on Amazon for around $118US (& around $140 shipped). I've been going back & forth on whether to buy it or not for like a couple of days. I thought I decided I wouldn't, but when I went back to Amazon today, it was still there :slap

I guess I simply had to cure my curiosity, so I wound up purchasing it :lol

To be stuck for that price on Amazon, I'm guessing this figure is not really the most popular. It looks alright to me. But the HT DX overall really is one of HT's best. But head sculpt vs head sculpt? Forgetting the different sizing, & going purely on likeness? I really couldn't decide. I like them both.

I think I'm okay with the overall inferior Jack figure to represent the character on my shelf. Or sell it if I'm not into it :D
