Hey, maybe I can finally afford one. I love how EVERY HT announcement is met with "Where r Reeves's Suparmen figur?"
Really, I want the Reeve Superman as badly as the next guy, but I'm sure HT will show it when they have something to show.

As for this new teaser, don't we usually get the full reveal in a day or so? I like what I'm seeing so far.

Well, the prices on the old one will now proceed to sink like a stone.

Well the original Mark III still sells for a pretty decent amount (average around $200) even with it having a BD version.

I'm hoping this is actually an all new mold but part of me also hopes it's just a redeco of the Mark III BD (which I don't like) so I don't have to buy a new Mark II.

The abdomen does look like a totally new sculpt with finer detail and the shoulder does look smaller and more accurate. Damn. My only hope is they also do a Mark III in this mold if it is in fact a mostly all new proportion-corrected mold.

Weren't the last couple of HT SDCC releases announced with the SSC ones? I'm banking on a repainted, slightly modified MK IV body rehashed into a MK II with the MK VI flip top but with a Don Cheadle sculpt underneath. All the accessories of the MK IV except donut and Tony sculpt as a regular release

dedguy
04-19-2011, 08:33 PM

That's pretty much totally impossible. The sculpts are completly different. If anything it would be a re-use of the Mark III BD but it really doesn't seem like it based on the abdomen and shoulder. It might still use the same legs or something though. Only the full reveal will tell.

It would be awesome if all the proportion issues are corrected and it has Mark IV/VI style waist articulation.

It's definitly a new sculpt, at least in part. Look at not just the size but also the shape of the shoulder armor. The abdomen armor is also not just a different sculpt but also shorter in proportion to the body.

I wouldn't want real metal. I hate die-cast toys. Heavy and low-detail.

On the subject of the rivets neither the raised one on the original or the countersunk ones on this new one are accurate. The actual suit the rivets where flush, just a different finish. I have no idea how you'd do that at this scale though so I'm fine with either solution to representing them.

If this is in fact a proportional fix, I'll probably give away my Mark II to a friend. I've gotten my monies worth out of it.

I'm the same way. As long as I re-coup what I paid for a figure, I'm more than happy. I sold off both my Mk I and Mk II to members here for only $250 a few months ago. Having owned them both, I just can't justify the asking prices those 2 figures have shot up to. I was also just speaking generally. I do admit that it takes a bit of the sting out of spending too much money on this crap when you know you can resell the stuff for the price your paid or more… even if you never plan on selling them like I do.

I like to see it this way. If I went to the movies 12 times in a year, once a month, that would cost me about $120. Your average expensive 1/6 scale figure that's in that same range I get at least two years if not way more than that in entertainment/life enrichment, etc. So it's a deal really.

Delusions are great! :)

I never checked on this. I am kind of surprised that they are selling for that high. So, since they are I would like to see the value stay that way or increase. :wink1:

People have them listed for that, don't know if they are actually selling them though!:cuckoo:

I think we already have, not finished but in prototype at least.

If you look at completed auctions on eBay they have gone for anywhere between $825.00 (Apr-13) and $425.00 (Apr-17). With such a huge range in prices over a short period of time I think buyers are just being stupid with their money. The mean seems to be more in the $600 range though.

I never buy anything for more than retail.

Preaching about how figures aren't an investment is about as foolish as those who do it. The horse is dead, has been for quite a while on that one. As for this if it can be used as any kind of figure, meaning parts to make it an actual MK II and not just a carcass on a slab it'll drive up the price of a MK I because literally I'd be the only suit that johnny come latelys couldn't get from this line (given that there are a ton of MK IIIs in some fashion easily accessible) not good for those who still have that gap in their collection. Better lock one up soon.

Im ecstatic to see that the autopsy suit is being made!!It seemed such a lock-in for the Iron Man line but for the longest time nobody seemed to care about it.Loved the explanation that old boy gave for it on the Legacy featurette, how it was just knocked up with a little of everything that was lying around, and the fact it featured the original boots from "Iron Man".So they can re-use the boots from the Mech Test then.I cant see anything anywhere about a "Con" exclusive so Im hoping it s a regular MMS.

Reusing some parts of the BD Mk.3 with lots of new sculpt of autopsy parts... definately new torso, which may have added (or no) waist articulation.

I thought it might be just the BD Mark III but if you compare the two they're obviously very different sculpts, although the forearm is very similar or even the same. That's fine by me as the Mark III arms where never the problem with it.

You may complain about Hot Toys "cranking out" the Iron Man figures but I really think Hot Toys makes stuff because they enjoy it not just to make money. Sometimes not making money seems to get in the way of making stuff they want to, but in the case of Iron Man, since these do sell so well it really allows them to get better and better and engineering small-scale mechanical parts.

This easily could have just been a re-release of the BD Mark III with a new paint scheme but no, they have gone and re-done a fair bit of stuff. How much won't be totally apparent until we see the full pics but just from the chest and abdomen and the bicep you can see they put a fair bit of new work into this which they did not have to do in order to just make money.

I lightened the promo pic and have some further observations.

The abdomen is definitely totally different. You can really see when you mess with the levels just how much thicker it is for one thing. The shoulder armor in the dark pic looks more rounded along the bottom edge than the Mark III but when lightened the shape still looks pretty much the same. I still say though it's definitely much smaller in proportion to the arm and body.

Also something I didn't notice in the dark pic, I think the back flaps are totally new as well. I don't have the BD Mark III though so I'm not entirely sure if it has those same flaps or not. Perhaps someone with the BD Mark III can clarify. In particular that smaller flap that's over the larger flap up by the shoulder looks all new to me.

Calcifer
04-20-2011, 08:37 AM
The bdm3 has those same flaps with the extra one on top, no change there.

We'll find out tomorrow. I'm sure the SSC newsletter will mention it and their teaser should lead to some clue about whether or not it'll be a con exclusive or a regular release. I'm still thinking it'll be a standard MMS, but remember all those rumors about an Iron Man DX? Maybe this will be that and include a table and interchangable parts to make it either a Rhodey Mark II or a autopsy table version with jumpsuit and standard Rhodey sculpt to go with one of their Obama TTs?

The Battle Damaged Mark III came out, not announced, but came out in February of 2010. The original Mark III came out in January of 2009 (and was announced way back in the summer of 2008 iirc).

So the newest incarnation of the Mark III we have is well over a year old and the one I actually have is well over two years old. That may not seem like a long time but Hot Toys has improved so dramatically in that time period I would LOVE to see all their new knowledge and experience applied to the Mark II as well as the Mark III.

This only holds true if what I hope is the case and this is largely and entirely new figure with film-accurate proportions and better articulation. If it is just the BD Mark III with a new torso I retract all that. I hope it's not though.

If he cared so much about film accuracy he would want these new releases as there original ones lack a lot of accuracy. I think he's just an arbitrary naysayer.

HT is always going to remake figures when they can. They clearly like to show off how much they have improved and will do it when it's finically viable such as in such a well sold line as the Iron Man line. Hate it all you like but this ____ sells and a lot of us love it.

It isn't out of the realm of possibilities for them to go back and do a BD Mark III with interchangable parts, newly tooled like the newer Marks under the Iron Man 2 banner. Hell they could get away with doing a new Mark I if they wanted, they could just include a Hall of Armors stand and have no issues with it at all.

Thankfully for me, Hot Toys hasn't shown anything remotely interesting for months now. Saves me money. These Iron Man figures are practically repaints. All Hot Toys has to do is change them a bit (tweak this, add that, make this removable, include this updated head) and everyone clamors for them so I can't say I blame them. Easy money.

Wake me up when they show Batman, Joker, Superman or some very much needed Terminators and Kyle Reese.

A revamped mark 2 can be justified because the proportions were way off, Mark 1 is pretty much perfect aside from the Downey sculpt, maybe it could do with being a small bit bigger ..but i don't see it ever happening.

I don't know if it is a translation error but on the Hot Toys Facebook page it says, "More Iron Man 2 collectible is coming soon! Stay tuned!"

The word "more" seems to suggest several new releases while the word "collectible" is singular. I'm confused. Is this the first of more Iron Man announcements. I know there was talk of a Nick Fury and an armored Whiplash but that was forever ago.

Woo! In particular the first two and the last one have me excited. The first one clearly shows much narrower smaller shoulders, the second shows what really look to be new hips/legs. The last one seems to show the new legs as well as some form of non-rubber-torso Mark IV/V/VI style abdomen articulation.

I bought the first Mark II when it was originally released so I'm probably passing on this one. If it was a major improvement I might think about selling mine to buy the new one, but it would have to be really major for me to think about going through the effort of selling after a new one had been announced. As for this Mark II reboot, I like that they're doing this...will I get it, You betcha. Will I sell my original Mark II? Doubtful. While I'm sure the new engineering/paintjob will be WAAAAY cooler, I'll get him to display with my Mark IV in a Rhodey/Tony display either above or below WM and Mark VI.

I like the original Mark II displayed with my Mech-Test Tony...a Stark garage display if you will. Besides, I'm betting like most that this will come with a Rhodey head and won't come with Tony's mini Mark I heart.

The first Batman Begins suit was awful(imo) so an upgrade was welcome but more importantly that suit played a part in the dark knight and thus it was released in that line, did the Mark 1 do anything in Ironman 2 ....no it did not!, now unless the Mark 1 play's a part in The Avengers or Ironman 3 don't expect a re-release of it.

Exactly, Hot Toys looks for ways to improve on their product when they can utilize an appearance in a sequel. Let's say for argument's sake that in Iron Man 3 which is projected for 2013, the Mark suits are better, and the Mark VI makes an appearance in the film in some fashion I would wager that they'd go back an improve.

The Mark I is a longshot, especially since it was a display piece as was a BD Mark III (the damage is slightly different though...) but not out of the realm of possibilities. Considering though how much time they showed the Mark II, the party fight, the flight to the base, the transition from the Mark II to the War Machine Mark I, this should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone...

Anything is possible considering the leap form MK II to MK III wouldn't be that much of a stretch but I think that if HT was doing a SDCC Ex we would have seen it by now. HT usually shops their Con Exclusives to multiple outlets, other shows or as we've seen in the past retail exclusives for folks overseas. They aren't exactly secretative about it.

I'm sorry but what rehashes? The only rehashes were the mk 3, gunmetal, and the majority of the first mk 2. A few parts may have been reused but pretty well all iron man figures have been brand new! I've already pre-ordered my Tron,Spiderman and Thor so think I'll stick to PF's for a while until Hot Toys pulls their head out their ass and hopefully so will the rest of you. You guys are kinda stopping Hot Toys from making new things by busting a nut over the same ____ we've already seen. It looks like they're making it like the dissection version--where they had it on the table with the parts removed. I'm kinda glad they're doing this. Since I'd like to have a full set--at least a representation of each version of the suit. I didn't get the Mark 2 the first time since it wasn't that different from the Mark 3

You are totally missing what I said. The original BATMAN BEGINS figure vs the BEGINS suit released for TDK. The original Mark II is also now about two and a half years old. I don't think it's too out of line to be doing an update now.

This isn't "just a new head" from what little we have seen it looks like a completely new figure with all sorts of features and gimmicks the original figure did not have.

No, not at all. I don't see how people can't see how wildly different the designs of he Mark II/III and the IV/VI are. The preview is clearly the Mark II sculpt not a repainted IV and it's just as clearly not the same sculpt in the chest/abdomen area as the BD Mark III from a year or so ago.

I'm guessing, but it's not as clear, that the figure as a whole is totally new based on those tiny thumbnails we saw.

I think dedguy is saying that it will have a lot more features than the original Mark II and that it might even have a second display option from the scene where they're looking at the empty suit. From the pictures we've seen, it looks like a brand new updated Mark II and I'm sure it will be a lot different than the original one that was released a couple years ago.
