Yay or nay?
I just hope Singer can get to this one and redeem the saga, to its former greatness. 3 was a great flick but it had so much unseen potential.
i still cant get over how horrible X3 was. it's as if they slapped it together in a month.

it's infamously known had damn quick X3 they got into production, so I guess it may give off that feel.
Im glad they portrayed the phoenix the way they did, but thats about the only thing i enjoyed throughout the movie. The rest of it felt too shallow.
But hopefully X4 will have some interesting content since they left X3 open ended.

What they should have done is had the Leech story for part 3 (and used him to supress Dark Phoenix) and then part 4 being a full blown Xmen/Mutants vs Dark Phoenix.

Probably a futile wish, but I'd hope they would give X4 back to Singer. I despised most of X3.

i think X3 is the best of the series. and i knew a while ago that 3 would not be the last one. with the kind of money they are making why stop now??

I thought X3 was enjoyable and worth seeing. It was what it was a comic book film. I never expect these to be award winning in anyway shape or form. LOL
Did anyone else get a chuckle out of the fact that the guy from Fox didn't get the last movie in the LOTR Trilogy was the last film?

So those characters have come to their conclusion? If x4 becomes centered around next generation, that would really suck.

Actaully in the comics they are refered to as Generation Next.....and there were some pretty cool charaters who came out of the Generation Next story line. However most would look a little crappy on screen....they really had some weird looking ones in GN.

yeah, I wonder what they could really do with another X-men movie.. I kinda like it ending as it is... Let Wolvie have his next solo flick and Magneto his... And let it be.
But then again... If they did it right.. it could be pretty cool. It just matters how it's handled.

Put Wolverine & Magneto in the same flick so Magneto can rip the adamantuim(spelling??) from his bones...that was one of the coolest moments in X-history....

Yeah, that scene in the comics was one of those "Oh ^^^^^" moments that our generation will never forget.

i dont think it will mean new characters, just this specific story for the characters. magneto wasnt the only villain the X-men battled. besides im hoping this means they bring Onlsaught in to the next trilogy. :monkey5 = same characters (well, the ones that are still alive) new adventure.
SS really need to make a diorama of this intense battle

I didn't expect an award winning film, just one on the same level of quality as the first two films. I feel I didn't get that. Too many mutants, little to no character development, two plots that should've been divided into two films....basically a rush job, IMHO. The writing, characters and storylines all suffered. Good action, but I left the theater empty.

is that date on the aritcle right? january 2006?
anyway, i doubt singer will be back. brett ratner just directed the biggest opening x men film of them all. he'll probably be directing this next one.
i read on another site that the head of fox had brian singer removed from the fox studios by security guards. is that true?:lol

I was entertained by it. I was surprised that 90% of the audience left when the credits started. Youj'd think people would know better by now that there is alawys an easter egg at the end of the credits... I liked X3 better than the previous 2 movies actually.

Singer definately wont be back. The enitre reason for the hugely rushed production was because they wanted to smite Singer and be the first big blockbust of the year, after the delays with him and eventually just deciding to go with superman.
Thats what I heard.

What's the big deal? He says he wants Singer back to direct but knows that's not gonna happen. I want Michael Jordan to come back and help the Bulls even at his age but I know that's not gonna happen.:lol

UPDATE: Fox has confirmed X-Men 4 with a release date of December 2006. A screenplay has been started and is due to be finished by lunch today. McG is in talks to direct.

There's more to the Singer thing and it's basically that they wanted to lowball him on coming back for 3. Tangled things up in negotiations for over a year, thus stalling X3 and DC stole him out from under them since they were unwilling to invest in the franchise. Then the panic flag went up and they had to rush X3 into theatres to beat Singer.
So, I wouldn't be surprised if Singer didn't come back. Unless Fox steps up to the plate and treats X-Men as a legitimate franchise they are going to choke on their own vomit when it comes to Mark Singer.
This whole debacle was traced back to one myopic Fox Exec whose name eludes me at the moment.

I agree..screw Singer....let him make good Superman movies and Ratner can make good X movies....everyone is happy.

After an opening like X3 had, Fox would have to be insane to not want to continue the franchise. The series has only brought in more money with each movie and I see that as a sign that it's growing. Why kill the momentum of it by putting out the Wolvie and Magneto spin-offs? That means it could be over 5 years before we see X4.

But I like Bryan Singer.:monkey2 :monkey2 :monkey2
Don't get me wrong, I liked X3. But the first two films seem to resonate more emotionally. Why was Professor Xavier so harsh on Logan this time???
I'm afraid that with the astounding opening weekend that FOX has been erroreously rewarded for their mismanagement of the X-Men franchise.

Maybe given time and proper script production Ratner can make a better film....given the huge opening weekend Fox will most likely give it to Ratner again....& if Superman performs well Singer will no doubt be back fo the sequel..or sixth movie..or what ever you would call it.

Agreed.
But remind me again what previous Ratner film had tight pacing and camera work and solid character development?? Certainly not the Rush Hours or the mess that was Red Dragon? :monkey4
Perhaps he'll get better with time, but I ain't holding my breath.
PS: I have no love for Hugh Jackman's acting chops either.

Agree with EVERYTHING you said...but given the fact he will get it back we must hope that he can fix his obvious problems...

The rushed development is more at fault than Ratner for the shortcomings of the film. But today Arad said they were going forward with Wolverine and Magneto rather than X4.
There are 3 analogies for why I think X3 was a decent movie (and most of all didn't feel like last summer's Fantastic Four).
1) X3 is like seeing a reunion rock tour where a key member isn't there. The orginal members are solid but something crucial is missing. In this case Bryan Singer.
2) It's like when KISS released a disco album in the 70's. It was an alright disco album but if you were looking for KISS music, it wasn't there.
3) Ratner couldn't screw-up with Singer's franchise (cast, tone, art design, script outline) just as Bush couldn't lose in Afganistan with Clinton's army. The miltary exercise succeeded, but not as well as it would have under the previous leadership (Clinton would have gotten UBL). (And yes, as this analogy goes, if Ratner were to direct an X4-6 it would be like Iraq.)
As this post touches on some sensitive subjects, please forgive me if it offends any true beleivers or KISS fans.

Nice analogies!! But the movie is still blew for the most part. I don't think we'll see X4 any time soon simply because they have plans for a Wolverine and Magneto movie. Also, Iron Man, GR, Hulk 2, and Spiderman will be coming soon. THat's a lot of Marvel movies!!:google
