Nice job on Big Boss Josh!
And yes, he's got green eyes. Snake only had blue eyes in the first metal gear solid (not twin snakes, the real one:D) but they've been green since MGS2.

Hey, what's wrong with twin snakes?
Nothing. It's just that it could have been much better, one of the best if not the best game ever. I was disappointed many times when I first played the game (it sometimes felt like a jet li film, the graphics were a lot worse than MGS2, many dialogues were changed)
I guess that's because Hideo Kojima did not direct it. That's why the only real Metal Gear Solid is the one on psone imo.
lerath666
10-03-2007, 04:20 PM
Didn't know Kojima did not direct it. i find that shocking, Considering his feelings for nintendo. (His favorite company, and Mr Miyomoto Being his hero) Even then, I did not notice too much of a dialogue shift. Still the same story, just with some newer cutscenes. and you can't tell me the post-fight cutscene with Raven in the tank is not the epitome of awesome.
Oh well, either way, bring on MGS 4. That will be the day I buy a PS3. and when I beat it might be the day I sell my PS3. So far, it's the only reason for me to get one.

Thanks a lot guys! And Les, he is from Resident Evil. Was part of an Umbrella Corp special forces team that he was the last survivor of, trying to get to the chopper with a sample of the virus in RE2. RE2 was my favorite game in the series, and the one I remember the most. I just loved running through a city infested with the undead, reminded me of my nightmares. :lol
All of it was perfectly done, the enemies, the dual disc format, characters. It was a great game and a more than worthy follow up to the original game. :rock

Very cool figure, all those accesories are really cool and the red eye are the gas mask are great. Looks like it was fun to make, ive been wanting to make one of the marines from Battlestar Galactica because they look cool like this and would be great to put together.
The game did rock. Except when the zombies grabed you and you had to try and get away, annoying.

Today was both Horrible and eventful.... I drove to work, having a good drive and rocking out to Nirvana "Incesticide" until I arrived at my workplace parking area and tried to park. A girl I work with decided to park in a hurry and take two spots up with her giant Denali truck.
So when I went to park, I almost hit her vehicle... realized how tight the spot was and started to back out... I got rear ended by another person coming in to park across from me. :google
So I rushed out to the other car, made sure the girl was ok.. checked our damage, which was barely a scratch but still scared us. She told me not to worry about it and so I just parked and went inside. Once I got in, I got more and more angry... so I started telling people the story, not realizing that the Denali in two spots was whose it was. The person I was telling the story to, however, DID know.. and he told me it was Ornella's.
So I went to storm down to the nurses station to let her know about it and to vent a bit. She wasn't there so I told the other nurses to let her know her parking job sucked ass and that she needs to know her role and such. I then, sadly, added that she thought that just because she was hot that she could do anything she wanted, but I wasn't going to let it go just because of that.
So I went back down to my work area and started doing my job. A few minutes later she comes barreling down the hallway telling me that she wanted me "outside" so we could handle our business, yelling at me calling me harsh names and saying that I wasn't much of a man if I wouldn't go out there and slug it out with her. I yelled back and defended my manhood, letting her know that no matter what she did I was not going to resort to violence against any woman... no matter how annoying or stuck up she was. She almost hit me in the hallway until one of our managers came in and broke it up thankfully.
Needless to say I got talked to and almost got written up and it made the rest of my day taste like someone had crapped in my mouth. But I was paid hours later and the taste faded away as I shipped the packages I needed to ship and made my way home.
Just to show you what I was facing today, here is a pic of the girl in question... on the right. :monkey4

Yeah, her family is Spanish... moved from Spain when she was a little girl. She's very self centered and mean at times. She farts and acts nasty all the time as well, I find her less and less attractive over the time I have worked with her. Today was just the final straw. I usually wouldn't air my business like this, but she really pissed me off... attacking me like that today in front of patients and coworkers alike.
I thought her boyfriend (who works with us too) was going to come after me about it, but he actually agreed that she was out of line. He's just used to it. :lol

Sorry to go off topic... but I need to tell everybody something really quick here. Most of the stuff shipped today, and I will work my hardest to get the rest out ASAP.
Art takes time, the people who are waiting on their stuff to be finished.... I apologize for the stuff taking so long, and I will do my best to get it all out to you. Just please take into account that I only get an hour or so a day to paint and it can take me sometimes months to get done with a project for someone, due to being behind. Updates will always come through this thread, so keep an eye and wait for your stuff to come through.
It's ok to PM me if it's been months and you haven't heard anything, but not every day. This stuff is not easy and takes a lot of concentration and time to complete. Patience will reward you all with a fantastic repaint or figure so please be kind and understand my situation....:o
If I'm rushed I will only produce shoddy work and that doesn't help anybody.
Also, on the shipping front. I think that from now on I will charge my normal flat fee for a repaint and once I ship ask for the shipping costs as well. This way I am not getting raped on shipping and basically painting stuff for free. And it helps everyone, in that people's stuff will come sooner and not later.
Thanks again to everyone for being cool about the delays and I promise... updates soon. :rock

What's the best method of getting these heads back on their bodies after you've received them from Josh? I've heard some use a little bit of dish soap inside the socket (in the case of Hot Toys) and it seems to pop on more easily.

:rock
I know I would much rather wait for a fantatastic repaint than get a crappy one in a few weeks. Plus, the figures are much safer at your place versus the Post Office.
Sorry to hear about your "stupid girl" story.

General Question:
What's the best method of getting these heads back on their bodies after you've received them from Josh? I've heard some use a little bit of dish soap inside the socket (in the case of Hot Toys) and it seems to pop on more easily.
Thoughts?
S.A.G.
Well, the resin ones just require a steady hand and some force... as far as the Hot Toys ones go. It's hard and sometimes you get a stiff necked figure, which is why I normally don't go for that type of neck from Hero heads. I just get it drilled out for a SSC neck or Dragon style and find a HT neck adapter so you can just glue it on.
But seeing as Hudson is the first type, with the long neck... you just have to be careful and force that baby on. You can maybe use some soap or some sort of lubricant if you want.. that might help.
The plastic ones that come from the manufacturer like the Hicks or whatever.. you can use boiling or a hairdryer. :rock

Sorry to hear about your employee parking lot car troubles. It sucks when you get into an accident or have trouble with an attracitve female, for some reason things don't always work out in your favor.
A few years ago a attractive girl hit me while I was going into a toll booth. Her vehicle had more damage than mine but as it wasn't my fault I thought her insurance should pay for any repairs. She ends up lying to her insurance that it was my fault and I don't see a cent. Some people.
Keep you composure and keep the faith, cooler heads prevail, that's how I see things.

Well, they're here and, they are AWESOME! Unfortunately, Hudson just can't seem to cooperate and his neck cracked after some forceful pushing. Luckily it's somehow all the way on and still offers range of movement.

something I figured out for when I've been doing this with my own heads Josh, a sheet of sandpaper on your desk.... hold the head onto it, making sure the base of the neck is flat.... and rub side to side. It gives a perfect flat level bottom to the neck. And takes it away evenly. Much faster than trying to cut it manually

Will do Darren! I had tried that with my sanding blocks, but not sandpaper. I will have to get some today or tomorrow. Cutting it away with a knife is a ***** and it takes a lot of concentration to get the bottom flush.

Yeah, it's 1:6. Just a tad smaller than normal. It looks best on a Dragon body, all others just make his head look tiny. But it is a fantastic likeness and well worth the dough.

Wow, Les! Thank you soo much for the kind words. This one was a snap for me, after the others. The hardest part was matching the orange paint, took me quite a few mixings to get that right. The lines I drew on with a pencil, using both the movie stills and pics of the Hasbro toys as reference. The legs were tricky, you don't get many shots in the film of the trooper's legs.
Also, as for weathering, I wanted the lines on his outfit to be a bit more crisp so great care was taken to keep it sharp. And I did not add a lot of dirt, just some clay mud spray on the feet and lower legs and a few blaster marks/scrapes. In the end it was really my favorite of the bunch, wish I had more to make one for myself.
Gotta love that Utapau trooper! :rock

And also guys... I wanted to tell you a messed up story of how I got screwed yet again and it is holding up my business. :emperor
My bank screwed me big time. I have money now, thankfully... but no real access to it. I'm glad I shipped out all the boxes I had last Friday with cash, so at least most of the stuff made it out the door.
But here is my current situation, I cancelled out my extra accounts and they killed my current debit card as well. At first I thought my credit needed the weekend to show up in my account, but alas it was not the case. The money was there, just could not access it. So all of my bills didn't go through and I lost a few Sideshow orders as well, including one that I bought with my $100 gift card that I won. :monkey4
I'd write a check, but the place I ship through doesn't take anything else but cash and I am not having another JAWS shipping incident where I spend $130 to ship something and lose half the money I got for it. So I stick with these guys. So this will hold up shipping on my end....AGAIN. So bear with me guys, as I get my new debit card in the mail and the boxes start moving again. It will be soon, hopefully in the next week. :rock
So I have a new card coming soon and should be able to get to my money during this next week. I apologize for the hold up

Josh, this is just my two cent and I mean it in the best way. I'm just a glass half full sort of guy but...
I frequently run through some of my trials and tribulations to people who generally give me a raised eyebrow and tell me how much bad luck I've had, to which I counter:
I have a home, kids, and unlimited opportunity. I can worship whatever religion I want... or not. I can come and go as I please. I can even make cool back grounds in my basement, that people buy to display toys on. You have had some bad luck, but minor and temporary bad luck. You have the brains and the talent to overcome these little inconveniences.
I know that you are well aware of all this, so my little soapbox is more for the audience. Think how lucky are you to have a home, a wife, a job, an ability to use your talent to bring in a nice extra income.
How lucky are all of us that we can afford to spend more than some people make in a year on toys?
This is just a bump in the road that will soon pass, in the mean time you have people waiting in a long line just to own some of your work. That is a wonderful thing. You have been given the talent to bring joy to people when they get to own some of your work. That is lucky, no thats a blessing.

So by this weekend I should have a ton of cool pics to get you excited, right before I ship it out to you. :rock

Thanks a lot Roy! It took me a looong time to get that Ironside sculpt to look right for me, lots of hair work and eyes. But in the end, it's comments like that that make me feel that I got the likeness. Thank you so very much. Sunohc did an amazing job on the sculpt, so a lot of credit goes out to his talent.

Ironside does look good Josh, I see him in there, but my familiarity with him is from watching "V" with my father and the brief time he came onto SeaQuest, both appearance featuring very animated, Nicholson Joker style eyes, an almost comical-seriousness, but again, I do see him in there despite the difference in expression, so kudos to you and Sunhoc for capturing his essence.

Thanks a lot Sean! It was a pain, because I was used to his mad or crazy eyes myself... and once I painted them in... just didn't work with the sculpt, so I redid them... and redid them... It took me a while until I got to this version and it finally matched. Not as Iconic, but at least still looks like the actor during his more calm scenes. :lol

When I read MFs post about Ironside in this page I quickly went back a page thinking you were working on a custom of the famous detective in a wheel chair :rotfl . . . that would have been sweet. Still, your Michael Ironside is excellent none the less. That guy scares me in every movie he is in.

No sweat Josh, it's amazing how subtle things like eye expression can really take a sculpt and make or break it. You can have someone perfectly sculpt the anatomy of an actor, but if the character's persona isn't there in the sculpt, no matter how anatomically correct it is, something will always feel off. Kudos to you for working past your own mental images and coming out on top of things once again.

What type of paints and brushes do you recommend?
Sorry man, I still hadn't replied to your PM yet... Well, brushes... I don't have certain ones that I use. Just a variety of small round tipped brushes, a few large round tips for drybrushing, and a few random flats for those odd situations that warrant it.
Paints, best type to use is Model Master Acryl. You can find it online and at Hobby Lobby. You will absolutely need Warm Skin Tone, Base Skin Tone, Burnt Sienna, Umber of some sort, Red, Blue, Yellow, White and black. All other colors are secondary. Also for colors that you use for hair and dirt, various browns and blacks... you can use Apple Barrel paint from Walmart to save cash. The color is more chalky, so I would never use it for skin, but it works great for hair and dirt.
Anything else you need, don't hesitate to ask! :rock:rock:rock

Thanks man!

Thanks a lot man! I am just soo happy you got him safely! I was starting to get worried there, the PO wasn't telling me anything. :lol
It looks great displayed in there though, just as much a badass as he should be. I really had a blast working on him and with the wound it was nice that it was a HT rubber body... because I just gouged out some arm and went to town with the blood and gore. Really wanted it to look good under scrutiny. Glad to see that it was effective! It was wonderful doing business with you man, hope to again sometime! :rock

Best way I could think of getting them into the shot. :D

Thanks man! Yeah, I cut leather bits and glued them in place for the boots, and did several coats of red on top of that. Later I sealed them so they would not scratch. :rock

Nice work Josh, there are some Reno remnants in that head, but your paint's really departed it from him.

Is it possible to see P!TU's dad to compare with what you've done there? I am amazed that you did what you did with the Jean Reno. Great glasses too! Where'd those come from?
Great stuff! I would think P!TU is most happy with this.

And thanks for all the comments on P!tu's Dad. I really had a blast working on it and I think it turned out rather nicely. And to answer the question, the glasses came from the SSC Giles figure.
