That would be interesting to see!

Great Goon Josh! Super lineup! Glad to see them all at one time. I need to do that with my entire 1939 set soon. That Freeze is awesome bro! I like him with the mask on! Those goggles rule man! Don't leave those off! That frost on there...COOL!!! :D

Thanks guys! Mr. Freeze was a lot of fun, and so were the rest of my Batman villains. I'm so happy to have a decent shelf of the Rogue's gallery, floors me daily when I walk into my work/collection room. :rock

And Les, oh yeah bro... keeping the goggles ON!

The new updates on the Joker look awesome, the socks are great! Is that scarecrow in your villains lineup? If it is, it turned out really nice; and has that grittiness to it that I enjoy :lol

Just an FYI Josh, Chris Howes is now making Two Joker heads. One stern expression, one licking. Didn't know if you saw that and wanted to change and/or get the other head too.

Mr. Freeze looks awesome Josh. It's exactly how I would picture him if he were ever to be in a Nolan Batman. So sad and tragic!

Thanks a million, guys. He's one of my favorites for sure, very proud of him. :rock2

I was getting some of my stuff ready for Comic Con and was going to pack up a few figures to take to the Con to show. I am bringing Jason VIII, Roy, Rorschach and might bring the Joker... still debating. I will bring them into the show on Thursday or Friday to show anyone who wants to see them in person.... :duff

I was just printing out business cards and realized that my flight leaves in 3 days. :google

SWEET! I'm looking forward to seeing those in person. Please bring the Joker if at all possible! Are you going to bring them to the Freaks party? That might be the best place to show them off.

Also, if you have anything finished for me, feel free to hand deliever it :D No hurries though. Only if they are ready.

Awesome looking!! Love my two clones and looking forward to adding my Obi-Wan and Joker to the collection.

AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Totally understand that!

And Chapuchi... As for TDK... Saw it twice already... FANTASTIC film. Now stands as my favorite comic movie of all time. Ledger was more than I could have expected, his performance of the Joker was exactly as it should have been. Everyone else was amazing as well, really nothing bad I can remotely think of. Badass movie.

And in honor of that badass movie, I wanted to show you guys what I have been doing over here. I've been updating my Joker customs to get them better and make the extra time everyone has been waiting... worth it.

I am hand painting the socks, working to make the tie better as well, better shoes, striped pants, better chain and a better inner coat. I put my Les rework head on there to show how it will look as an entire figure. Enjoy guys!

HOLY !!!! I CANNOT WAIT FOR MINE !!!!!!!! :banana

They DO show Two Face, but he doesn't look anything like my figure. Mine is just my own original take on the character, does have a lot of inspiration from The Long Halloween though. :D

Any chance you may take a stab at a custom of the TDK Two-Face ?

:lol Yeah, Nurse Joker would ROCK. If only I could find a costume, I would so do it. Even the little bit of chest hair showing and the Harvey sticker. :rock

"....Hi..."

:lol

And Eli... Yes indeed it is! It will have all of that, and I just bought some DCD Joker cards.. I will be putting one in with yours too.

Great scene !!!!

LoL... Can't wait for that Custom !!!

New villain lineup shot...

Here are a few shots that didn't make the challenge...I was going to do a base for him, but ran out of time. I will do one further down the line eventually... He needs it.

BIG Update on Jokers!!

I have a proposition for those still awaiting them. Info on the shirts has finally arrived and the cost is gonna sting me if I take it on myself. So here is my offer, if anyone desires the better shirt (Like Les insanely awesome Joker), it will be $20 for it. That is just the cost of the shirt and not any bonus for me at all. I just want you guys to have the best shirts possible and my hand painting them is not only insanely slow but not very accurate in the end.

If you want it, just send me $20 via Paypal at DarkArtist81@yahoo.com. I know it's adding to an already pricey custom, but I assure you it will be worth it and bring the figure up to a level that will blow away anything I could do myself.

Also, I'm going to be making 4 Joker Bank Robbery figures. Shirts will be made similar to the other Joker but with the Robbery pattern. The figure will feature the Buttmunch Joker mask with strap and my modified Joker sculpt beneath it. Because of the long hours that it will take, it's going to be super limited. Anyone who wants one, it will be $130 shipped... If not, I will just probably list them on Ebay when I get the shirts. Same Paypal addy if you are interested.

The H2 Halloween sculpt will be molded next week, and I wanted this to also be more limited than my H1 and seeing as though the jumpsuits are getting hard to find.. I figured I would offer it as well. It's $120 shipped and limited to 5.

Rorschach will be coming very soon, I have the sculpt finished and will be making the mold next week as well. He will be a $150 custom and limited to 5 as well. But I would hold off on him until the mold gets done, just in case it has issues.

I know I have a million group commissions going right now, and movement is slow.. But thank you all for being so patient with me. My school schedule is HELL right now, will be until Mid August. But after that I will have much more time for customs work.

The Roy project and Jason projects are coming along, just slow due to the heavy dremel work needed for the masks. I am almost done with 3 Roys at the moment.. so it's coming. I also have 3 Jason's almost done as well, just waiting on masks.

Myers is moving again, I glued hair on 2 heads, will be doing more tomorrow I hope.

Jokers are moving too, I just need to finish the head paints... Everything else is done though, except for the sock painting.

Lots of heads coming too, Meta's Aliens guys, DK2K's Buffy at long last and a million Anakins and other heads from various (awesomely patient folks).

I only get about 2 hours a night to paint during the weekdays, so I'm pushing guys... :rock

Yes, as Buttmunch referred to last page... The mask he sculpted, I have cast and it is dremeled to fit the resculpted Joker head that I did recently as well. I just test fit and sanded the mask, I will have pics up as soon as I get back from school. It's going to be available ASAP as well. For the head and mask deal, I will probably keep it limited as well... because it requires so much work to get to fit. I'll keep it limited at 8. :duff

The only bad thing about the mask is that it barely fits my head. I know it will NOT fit Les' head or more than likely the HT either. It's a solid resin item, so not flexible at all. So I really would not recommend buying the mask alone to fit on any other head... I doubt it would work.

Plus the hair wouldn't be right on either of those anyway (especially Hot Toys). It was slicked back so I think your altered headsculpt is the best option anyway.

I suppose you could do something like you did with the Jason Mask though, just have the masks made similar to the Mattel Evidence masks.

And a bit more specs on the Robbery Joker... It will be on a Dragon body, dirty gray suit and accurate shirt. Removable mask. It will come with the extended clip Pistol he used, the smoke grenade and purple string, even including a few grenades and a blue bag.

I'd be interested in at least two or three different ones for the gang, though I would not want to order these until September at earliest (my wallet has to absorb Sovereign's Newt figure, yours and DA's robbery Joker, and the Hot Toys Joker and BB Batman beforehand). So, if it's not a matter of having to order these immediately, I'll buy at least two or three (enough to make a nice sized dio).

I think I'm going to need some of those extras too. :lol I can get a suit no problem (even found some shoes similar to his) but that other stuff I would struggle with. But that is turning into a great deal for those getting a full custom! :rock

I won't be able to even start until after SDCC at the earliest. My biggest thing is I just need to get ahold of some Art S. Buck heads so I can sculpt a few more masks.

I'm thinking this guy next just so we would have the complete Lobby crew.

http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/8268/cross3zh8.png

Then maybe the alarm guy, safe hacker, and bus driver but so far there isn't a lot of reference pics for those three.

Hey guys! I'm here.... just had the WORST day ever.. I left my phone in the car before my flight, so yeah... just the beginning. Then my plane was delayed due to rain, and once we got to my next stop I missed my connection due to the delay and got re-routed to San Diego. Not a big deal, except that it caused my baggage to go MIA... including the figures and all of my clothes, toiletries... etc. :banghead

So I had to buy a Temp phone and will probably have to buy clothes to wear the first day of the Con as well... Horrible day, worst travel experience ever. :monkey2

Man that's a pain... I lost my baggage once when I was traveling for an interview. Of course my suit and everything else was in it. I did get it all back later on my 2nd day... but it was a pain.

Usually airlines will reimburse you for expenses incurred for things like this... keep you reciepts for clothing and other stuff.

Thats terrible news to hear. But it's happened to me about 5 times and all I did was go up to the lost baggage counter and they were usually able to find it and get it delivered to me within a day or two. Hope you find it though!

First things first, the Con.... I will have a full report up as soon as I finish my test. It was good and bad, really had fun though and met a lot of people... Freaks and SSC reps. I couldn't have asked for a better trip, especially as far as customs go... The Joker made one HELL of a splash there.

First off, I want to apologize to Les for not calling him... My phone died before my Wife could give me and I had absolutely NO internet access...

Here, as promised... is my Con Coverage!

Ok, well... to start I will talk about what I absolutely hated about my Con experience. First off, I was at a disadvantage due to losing my phone and luggage... and at a loss of quite a few dollars due to having to buy a temp phone. So I was already having kind of a bad time before the show even started.

I HATE the crowds. At first it's funny seeing that many nerds in one place, but that novelty wears off and eventually you just find it a bit aggravating and too much to handle. By the third day I just wanted to buy a sword and start cleaving through the masses like Sauron.

Secondly, security... The "red shirts" as I so un-lovingly called them. The name is well deserved, they suck something awful. Just like the Red shirts of Trek, they are useless and you want to see them die. No joke.

Another thing that was annoying was the surprise signings all over the place, you would have to check in with all of the booths to catch the autographs you wanted and it would take forever to make some sort of plan. The Autograph area upstairs was without anything too big, and all of the huge signings were in the exhibition hall... without any info in the book for you to plan it by. Not only did that suck if you were a fan idly walking by, but it sucked if you were trying to walk the Con and got stuck in a large group of shutterbugs and rubberneckers. Really really really freakin annoying.

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k203/DarkArtist81/SDCC/DSCN4742.jpg

On to the good, the Sideshow booth was a home away from home. If I wanted to try and find some friends or just relax, that was where I went. Just to drool over the stuff and talk with people, it really was a great place to chill. And it was something you could see from almost anywhere in the Hall.

The party was the real deal, where I had the most fun... I was a bit nervous at first, we arrived a bit late and everyone seemed to be settled in... and nobody seemed to notice me for a few minutes, until I found Ill, Loki, Bannister and co. And I felt strange being the only one with a backpack, so I busted out the figures to show why in the Hell I had the bag in the first place. Thankfully, my friends did some of the work for me... showing my work around and getting the excitement level up. All I really had to do was ride the wave from that point on. I got tips from Klauder about how SSC does things and how to work my way in, who to talk to, etc. I then moved on to the bar and Bernardo found me and we started talking. We talked shop and talked about the new stuff at the show, and he really was impressed by the Joker... he introduced me to several other SSC artists and got the ball rolling, I got a bunch of cards and was asked a few questions about my availability and such. Nothing even close to being in stone and no job offers or anything, but they know who I am and will be in touch if something does happen. So it was a mission accomplished in that sense, I never expected even that to happen. It was just nice to show them the figures and to get such a positive response in regards to them, and it was shocking that they wanted to stay in touch with me and would campaign for me if the opportunity did arrive. I can ask for nothing more.

The Freaks were another highlight, hanging out with everyone and meeting some of my longtime friends was awesome. I'm glad nobody got tired of my stupid jokes and insane stories, example... "I'm a God in Japan..." (you had to be there :lol). I will never forget it guys, you all rock.

:lol Don't worry Mike... Myers is done just needs to be attached to the body and the Jokers are just waiting for the socks to be finished. They WILL be finished this weekend without a doubt.

Last weekend, surprise parties and packing ended up taking most of my time away.. this time.. Nothing to do but paint. And LOTS of pent up artistic urges to vent.

And Sean, you are right on the money. I had to buy a temp phone and pay for minutes and access, it was a drain on me financially. And then the Wife needed gas money and the Joker figure is shipping... too much all at once, as always.

Josh, just wanted to say, after seeing pictures of him again recently, your Ledger Joker head is a marvel. It was special just based on seeing pictures from TDK, but now having seen the movie, really absorbing Heath's Joker and looking at your head, it's just incredible the way you were able to take a random 1/6 portrait and transform it like you did. You made Heath's Joker show where it was never meant to. A true testament to your skill and passion. Great job on it dude.

Great recap Josh.

I hate crowds, BAD!!!! Really really hate crowds, I would probably freak at SDCC.

I kind of hate crowds in a very inclosed area. In a bigger area I could deal.

I dont know? I hate most people in general, but when I am surrounded by a large crowd I hate it, i hate a situation I have no control over.

Theres a chance I could get through a day of con, but beyond that I dont know.

I too just want to brag that I saw Josh's Joker (with Les head), Rorsachach and pt. 8 Jason at the freaks party. Joker in particular is amazing. Combinging that amazing scan with Josh's talent makes the figure look eerily realistic. The work on the clothing was also amazing (the details in that shirt! :google).

Josh is too modest and a very nice guy. His work looks a million times better in person, and they already look fantastic online in pics I really hope his connecting with Sideshow people works out for him. :rock

Hey, Josh. You wouldn't be interested in taking on a repaint of a Premium Format LOTR Aragorn would you? I just bit the bullet and re-ordered my exclusive which I cancelled after the production shots began to roll off because I thought the likeness had suffered quite a bit.

Now that the in-hand shots are coming through, I can see that the sculpt is there. With a repaint I'm convinced that this piece could get awefully close to the greatness of the prototype. What think you..?

Actually, I think that honor goes to me. :D

Indeed it does! The prototype is going to Bwayne, it's the one I have in work at the moment. Thanks to his getting the parts to me and waiting very patiently for me to try this casting method. So here soon, you will all see the proto that will represent the figure as it will be made for the 5 figure run I am doing. The only real change is the jacket, which is thinner material and a slightly different cut.

And to update everyone, this weekend is looking to be more of school work weekend and less of a painting weekend. My Humanities final started yesterday and I am going to try and finish it this weekend... it involves 5 essays on various eras of art styles and history... so I think it will take most of my time away. And on top of that, my College Algebra final is Monday, so I have to study for that as well...

So the weekend is a bust. But next week is looking nice. I will have money at last, can ship out the stuff I have here for people and get a large amount of paint work done... without distraction. No classes for 2 weeks. :rock

Thanks for the patience guys! I will try and get back to all of my backed up PM's before weekend's end. :duff

This is when I usually gloat about being a Mac user...except this weekend I had to do the exact same thing to my wife's MacBook Pro. Wipe the drive, start all over.

Keep those backups, me boyo's.

And if you're on a Mac, think twice about using FileVault - I learned that one the hard way!

sorry about the computer issues Josh. really sucks. My computer was running so slow that I had to just disconnect it from the internet for a while.

bloody computers, man! hope you get it back soon josh. at least it's not a hardware problem. i'm blue screening about 3 times a day at the moment. memory parity issues. could be major bucks. don't worry, none of us are going anywhere. we'll be here when you're back.

Thanks for the support guys... I ran tests on it before sending it to the computer guy and found the culprit... my MODEM. The modem somehow got corrupted and wouldn't let me online, so I reset it and voila.... I'm back online. :rock

Today I dremeled a lot and finished painting the "Buttmunch" Joker bank robbery mask. I didn't have much time, was running around doing errands most of the day and trying to get the computer fixed. But the mask is finished... so I thought I would give you guys a small taste. :D

Thanks man! I do have most of the parts at last, still haven't ordered the shirts yet.. but will have a stand in. :rock

I'm happy to report that all of my backlogged figure runs are coming to a head, I'm really trying to crank them out as fast as I can. Jokers are easier without having to do the full shirts. Myers takes a little time, Jason takes the most... damn dremeling.. It's time consuming. And I will have the first Rorschach finished in a few days too, just started cleaning his sculpt up today. H2 Myers is almost finished as well... so it will be a busy week from here on in... :rock

Wow. That mask is great looking... will it work with the head Les is making?

DarkArtist81
08-06-2008, 09:42 PM
Thanks man! I HAVE fit it to my reworked head, but... it also fits not as snugly on the Les head, once I have a strap on it, I will show you what I mean. It's TIGHT on my sculpt, and Les head is wider, so the mask stops on the hair at the sides. It won't go on further, but it still looks pretty nice on there.

Glad you like it so much. Josh's painting really helps though, I can't take all of the credit for it. Heck, most of the hard work that makes it look so good is his work :rock

Ah, you are too modest man. You really nailed this sculpt, it's miles ahead of the Goon you did. It really shows your progression bro, you should be very proud. My painting was only an enhancement of what was already there. :duff

I'm just happy that it's removable. :lol

I'm proud of both you and Brant (Buttmunch)!! :banana

That's why I got both the goon and bank Joker. You guys both are doing awesome jobs, and I know these will both be great when done.

Plus it doesn't hurt that I've always been a fan of Batman and the Dark Knight just took everything to the next level for me.:google

I'm thrilled you were able to make it removable too!

And you are also too modest. You acted like your figures at the Freaks party weren't that big of a deal, but they were a smash hit!

At least either one of us doesn't have an ego :lol

And thanks UToyfan!

I've got an Art S. Buck coming soon from Sideshow so hopefully I'll be able to make another Goon mask soon. Any request on that one? If not, I was thinking the third Lobby Goon mask.

I can hear the line, "No, I shoot the bus driver." while looking at it. Must be spot on!

That's exactly what crossed my mind when I saw these pictures, that quote, and the way Heath speaks it, eerie, great first line from an awesome performance.

Great work Buttmunch and Josh, the collaborative efforts on this board are always fun to watch.

Yes indeed it is Gruff! :rock

And guys.... Just when I thought things would get better... they got worse. My computer has a bad virus and I cannot get online at all. I am at my In laws house to use the computer really quick, it's Hell. I won't be online for at least a few days, so please bear with me. I WILL still be painting, but any PM's or emails or even pics will have to wait until my computer gets back from the service place.

I have to wipe the entire thing, all files... back to basics. It sucks, but I guess I deserve it for not getting decent virus software.

I'll see you guys in a few days when things are better. I WILL have pics to post when that time comes, I assure you. :rock

Aww man that sucks. orry to hear bro.
