:lol I'm glad the head was easy to sculpt, not too much detail to get in there. And now that I have the stuff I need... Should be an easy custom. I'll be starting a Roy thread in the Commerce section soon, just to get a list going and get these made. This figure as well as Michael are easy to make, shouldn't take as long as my Jokers do. Not a lot of clothing work at all. Just the shoulder tear and the bloody stomach wound. :rock

I keep coming back to view these projects , really fantastic work.
Look brilliant Josh , all of them. They will be proudly displayed in my home without a doubt , when I finally buy something to display them on that is.

With work like this Kabukiman is definitely right.

Mezco can most certainly suck it ! :lol

Yes indeed! Awesome book, I love it. And a great reference for Jason projects. :D

And DK! Great news for all Joker orders! Some of the striped pants have finally begun arriving, so I will finally be able to dye some stuff here soon. The shirts are the only thing that takes me a long time.

If ANYONE decides to NOT have the crazy design on the sleeves, let me know. Because if anyone does go that route, I can get it done MUCH faster than it takes me now. The sleeves take me a full 2 days to get finished, IF I can sit down and actually devote the time to them. :google

Sweet ! I can't wait !!!!:banana

How about the other two you have for me ? :naughty:angelsmil:naughty

And the MM Joker is also on his way !

Tonight while packing up my sale stuff for shipment I found something for my Horror shelf that I had forgotten that I even have. It's the F13th Part 2 Jason figure, given to me by Bannister. He had added blood here and there, I just weathered the Hell out of him really quick and put him on the shelf... Thought I would share some pics. A cool 5 minute workup to bulk up my Horror collection...

A different body altogether. I used an old Majestic Apollo figure body because I liked the bare arms... they match well with the Part 3 figure. He's a bit thin though, I might have to bulk him up.

Well, today was interesting. Reminds me of "The Killing Joke", where the Joker is trying to prove to Batman that anyone can go insane from just one very bad day. Today was one of those days... :banghead

Where do I....begin?

I went into work today and saw my schedule for next week and this weekend. I had some crazy hours set up and I voiced my opinion about it... aloud.. for everyone to hear. It was bull crap. I was pulling double shifts, working 12 hours... Pretty rough. Well, bad news was... my manager was in there and she flipped a lid. So I started thinking about leaving, called my Wife... told her the scoop... She was talking me down from it.. so I clocked in.

My Boss, the General Manager of that Regal, steps in and says he needs to talk to me. I'm thinking that it's about the schedule and my diatribe earlier. He starts talking and I realize that it is not. See, I turned in my schedule change for the end of this month.. when I start Summer B semester in College. He says that he has good news and bad news.

Good news! I made Employee of the Month, my first month there. A first at that Regal and an honor actually... I was really shocked by that. At least I get an extra $25 bucks for it. :rock

Bad news! My schedule is not going to work, since I cannot open or close due to school... I have to either change the schedule to let me do that or quit. No option to wait until Summer is over.

I told him that I cannot change my schedule, that those classes were hard to score in the first place and I really really need the extra cash... so I was let go. He wanted me to turn in my 2 weeks notice, but I just worked the rest of my shift and left my Regal shirt at the front desk. So now I am unemployed once again. :monkey2

But, funny thing... my last day was the BEST day for me ever at Regal. I found tons of awesome stuff while cleaning theaters today. First, I found a whole bag of candy from a Birthday party group that was there. An unopened package of Sour Patch Kids in another theater. An unopened Beer, a Budweiser Select... :duff And the best was last, I found $75 under a seat. :rock

So it's not all horrible. But still... I am jobless again and no more free movies for me. :banghead

I'm the only person who can earn Employee of the Month and get let go on the same day. :lol

Thanks a lot Mike. I really do appreciate the Hell out of it. I seem to be rolling with my stuff as of late, so that is good. And with all of this time off, I can focus more on catching up and finishing the Joker project.

I will be able to score extra scratch by putting a Myers or Roy on Ebay to get by. My Xander just netted me a clean $160 bucks... not bad. My last Myers sold on Ebay for $200. And that one wasn't as great. So I'm hoping that I can make some good cash. I only made $300 every two weeks working there anyway. Selling two figures in one fell swoop covers that easily. :lol

Josh, you're one of the most stand up guys on this board, I'm sorry to see life take another rough turn, but you're a man of strong character and I know you'll bounce back from this. Just pour yourself into your work, keep making serial killer figures to vent your frustrations :lol, and remember the wisdom of our beloved friend Rocky Balboa, it ain't about how hard you can hit, but how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward, that's how winning is done, and you sir are an A Class winner :duff

you're one of the reasons i hang out at this board in the first place. so keep strong. despite all these tests, you're still the same cool guy as ever. and that counts for a lot in my book. no general manager butthole could take that from you.

Were you able to get student loans yet to help with you living expenses? Also, when you are at school look for student employment on campus. I've had some seriously cake jobs when I was an undergraduate. Once working at an Art Gallery, the 2nd as housekeeping for the Student Center. The second job I would average 15mins of work/2 hour period and that was expected by the higher-ups... Id either bull^^^^ with people or do homework and get paid, even made supervisor :lol

Thanks Blake, that means a lot man. I wish I had some helpers around, I would love to make this a full fledged company one day... just to be able to make a whole mess of figures. :banana

As for Loomis, I have wanted one for a LOOONG time. If I could sculpt a human likeness, I would have done it already for sure. No sculpt I have seen looks decent enough to use as a sub, and I don't think any company has done a 1:6th scale Loomis either or I would just cut the head off and cast that sum^^^^^!

I've talked to Les about it a few times, it's something that we both want... so we are both looking into to it. I just wish someone would do a sculpt. Everything else about him is easy. :monkey2

This is a great looking figure, Darkartist. Dare I say it maybe one of your best yet? It may seem like simple stuff but you really pulled together a lot of different elements to give us a figure to complete our Friday the 13th collections.

It really would be cool if you could start your own company one day. Keep it up. Crazier things have happened.

Nicely done!

:monkey2

Shawn (Sovereign Studios) has Loomis in his pipeline, he's done a sculpt and we confered about some work it needed but pretty solid, I'm going to stay in touch with him on it as I need it to compliment my Myers from him, I'm sure he could make a few once he has the first one complete, I'll keep you posted on anything I hear from him.

Ya, Laurie would be cool too, JLC Laurie that is, but Loomis is the Yang to Michael's Yin, and I'd love to have Pleasance immortalized in 3D form :rock Since I already own the NECA Michael, I can't bring myself to buy the 2 pack as it's the same figure just with Loomis in addition. Thanks! I am waiting on the correct suit as well, just borrowing a Michael suit at the moment. But blue suits on en route as well. I will be adding his wounds, stomach and left shoulder as soon as I do have it.

As for the mask, that Crystal Lake Memories book is amazing. They had a really nice Roy shot in that one that I used for mask reference. I wanted it to look as close I could possibly do it. I made it just a tad dirtier, but just because it's me and I can't help it. :lol

But ROY!! A Freakin ROY in my Jason lineup??!! Never thought I would see the day. :rock

A lesser customizer would have done just that. Heck, its what I am doing with a TDK Joker Goon (not the Joker) that I'm working on. But I justify that since we don't see what any of them look like under the masks. That was also Sideshow's excuse on the two Jason's that didn't have removable masks.

But back to you, amazing! The double masks really paid off well. You should be very proud. Its the little things that bring an OK custom to a fantastic one, which yours certainly is!

PS I'll try and get around to posting my Goon sculpt tomorrow. Its a work in progress, but I'm quite pleased with it so far.

Thank you so much man. I totally agree. It's all in the eyes, as Les told me. If you can get a good expression out of a sculpt, you have it. All the rest is cake.

And great news, DA fans!! I am going to SDCC this year, it is a GO! Roy and Myers have helped pave the way for me to go, and so I will be bringing Roy, Myers and my Joker to the Con. I will show them off, maybe drop by the Sideshow booth and share it with them. Should be pretty badass!

So I will be trying to catch up until then, try to get to all of this very late work. And anyone who wants a figure, especially if you are going to SDCC and want me to HAND deliver it... get on the list now. You will not only get it directly from the artist but you will be helping fund the trip as well.

And anyone who wants to help out in any way, I will be adding a donation button on my website! Help DA get to SDCC! :rock

Glad you are comming. If you aren't finished with my Joker items earlier, then hand delivering them to me is also an option. ;)

Wouldn't it be sweet if we got enough of us Freaks participating in the Custom Figure Challenge to bring their figures to the con that Sideshow would have a little podium for them :lol Unrealistic, but would be cool nonetheless.

Please make it ( gets on knees and begs ) PLEAAASSEE !. :monkey2:monkey2:rotfl

No seriously , please make this figure.

Its up there with the Creeper on my most wanted figure list.
I have always loved the shining , the score was so frightening , and the look on his face as he froze in the ice. Terrifying . One of his best performances ever.

If you decide to make it I would recommend watching the movie again first just to pick up on the way he is. He is a very unique character , a guy that super crazy yet intelligent and sort of knows whats going on but plays along anyway. He really cracks up and gets even scarier as the movie goes along.

REDRUM ! REDRUM !

Make this figure dude , honestly , its a must for any fan of the movie or even just horror in general , hes a big part of movie history as far as I'm concerned.

Plus I know if you do you will get a hell of a lot fo pms regarding it. :lol:rock

Hey guys, big update here. I wanted to let you all know the status of repainting things, Jokers and Myers...

Right now I am pumping away at several repaints, trying to get caught up on some that have been here for MONTHS. I also wanted to personally apologize to all thos who have had to wait so damn long for me to do this. The theater job really sucked the creativity out of me and drained me of painting time, so I'm glad to be free of it.

I'm done with the "head only" Jokers, they will ship out tomorrow or the next day at the latest. I'm also making it my personal quest to finish the rest of the Jokers by the end of this month, bar none. So please bear with me on them, they are coming....

Myers is also nearing completion, trying to get them finished as we speak too. The Anguish statue is coming too, a long time Bannister has waited for that one.

After those get completed I will be pretty much caught up and will be able to breath again. But I just wanted you all to know that I will be pushing myself hard to get these finished. You deserve to have them already and you deserve quicker turnaround times.

Agreed, but there is a pattern, the DarkArtist is touching upon darker subject matter. Having Josh do Luke Skywalkers and the likes is doable, he's talented and can do anything, but everytime he walks the dark side, he really shines in mind. When you can put yourself that extra bit into your work by connecting with the subject matter, the subconscious kicks in and something more comes out of you that you don't even expect or plan.

Thanks Sean! It's funny how that seems to be my "thing". Les and I have talked at great length about that. When I go into that darker subject matter, somehow I always do my best work. I guess it's where my heart is...

And thank you all so much, this has been a bunch of fun. I went ahead and painted this sculpt up, just for kicks... and it was only a few layers of paint to do for him anyway...

Thank you all so much. These Jason's are fueling the fires of my other repaints... helping to push me along this backlog of work. Which.. is thankfully moving forward. I am shipping out some stuff tomorrow and hopefully early next week as well. Things are moving along at a steady pace.

As for the Jason...I Finished the mask. I found rings for the mask straps, used aluminum foil for the metal attach points on the mask. Straps are leather, but a bit thick... They still work fine though with some trimming. I could not find a metal square for the back of the mask, but I found big enough rings to use for it. Has the FVJ look now, still works perfectly fine. I figured I wouldn't find that part. The paint came out great, I had the CL Memories book and it helped a LOT in that dept. Had to get all the telltale scrapes on the mask... I also put fabric behind the eyes to make it screen accurate, works great.

Well, without further ado... here it is.

I'm not familiar with Jason, but given his costumes and such, I think you could equate Josh to Michael Myers, no matter what you hit him with, he gets right back up and with more force than before you knock him down.

True dat... I figured Jason might work since he always seemed to get more and more ridiculously powerful from film to film. But I guess thats true for most slasher icons.

It was very important to me to get the details of this mask right. I sat with the photos, and hammered out the logistics of it. I walked around Wal-Mart for hours trying to get all the stuff I needed, looking for anything I could use. It worked out great, I was able to score what I needed to get it done and this was the result.

The head is now sitting on my Jason shelf, awaiting his body... And I can't stop looking at it. It's really crazy how nice the mask came out. :duff

You definitely have a passion for the Jason masks. I would be great to have a separate set of all the Jason masks from all the films. Somehow displayed in a long shadow box frame, how cool would that be:rock

That way you could display your figures with masks and have a kick ass display piece with all the masks too:rock

DarkArtist81
06-18-2008, 01:20 PM
That would be pretty sweet! I've always loved the Jason masks and had a collection of replicas at one point. I was amazed to learn the details of the masks and how they changed in each film... It was something I remembered when it came time to do this project. It's all in the minute details, when you add those... new life comes to the sculpt.

I will be available to make any masks that can be made from this base mask, I'm glad I molded it... Sideshow did the hard work, I'm just following it through to it's logical conclusion. I can't wait to have the figures on my shelf with my custom masks instead of the plastic flimsy ones. :rock

I don't know how much the masks differ from film to film, but I imagine sets of 1 from each film would be really popular with guys who have 1 SSC Jason. Then you'd need to make his different jumpsuits, and some gloves...it'd be like a psycho version of Bratz. Maybe Splatz? :)

BADASS! You are the man, bro.... I cannot wait to paint it. Your work on this Joker has inspired me to work harder on my own Joker and the rest of the commissioned "Joker Project" figures. We've had so many great conversations and talks about the film and Heath's Joker... we've gone back and forth on our Joker work, each of us raising the bar higher and higher... And this one is about as high as that bar can go for a Heath Joker. I'm so proud to have been any small part of the process that helped it come about. I'm honored to be able to hold in my hands and paint it, it will be a cornerstone of my collection.

And most of all, every single time I look at my own figure or yours... I know I won't help but think of our friendship means to me. :rock

Good news all around today, the last few days have been very productive. I finished one commission, the Luke,Han,Anakin and Alba one. Also made LOTS of progress on Bannister's uber late Anguish figure. I made significant progress on several of the heads that have been backed up for a while. No time for pics of all the works in progress... but here are a few of Anguish WIP and the Joker I just made for Drunk leprechaun. The coat looks light in these shots, but I assure you... it's the lighting. That thing is dark purple.

Wow, Anguish is looking amazing... Bannister is one lucky guy to have such an amazing piece, that is if it ever gets finished :lol But seriously, amazing work bro :rock

Thanks Joseph. I am making it my own personal quest to get Anguish done in the next few weeks, no matter WHAT. It's been waaay too long.

Both look absolutely amazing! That Anguish is a work of art in its own twisted way. And I don't know how you keep improving on the Joker but you are. I love how pissed he looks. I also like the smearing black make-up and the lipstick.

Thanks man, I think what has happened is that each time Les and I do another Joker we get inspired by the other's work... It's a cycle that has paid off for the both us on with these. His Heath Joker already has me amped to paint the rest of the ones I have lined up, just to push myself harder! :lol

And we all benefit from this friendly rivalry. You raise a bar, then he does, then you do, then he does... its great! I too can't wait to see what you do with that new head.

:lol thanks man! It does indeed have that "Thing" kinda quality. It was an old kit that Sideshow did back in the day, I had to put it together, putty the seams and paint it from there. It has been a journey, lots of time put into making it not look like a big piece of chewed gum... :rotfl

Good news to those that are awaiting Jokers, I am in talks to get shirts made... which will help me finish them all MUCH faster, probably cut a few months off the time actually. :lol

It will erase what little profit I actually made off of these, from $20 per figure to $0 or perhaps negative.... BUT... it's worth it. I'll just be happy to have them done and off to the people who paid to have them. :rock

It was never about profit anyway....:duff

News coming soon guys. And a hall of HORROR heads soon as well. Making Myers, Roys and Jasons as we speak too. Was a bit of a setback this weekend on those, but I'm attacking Myers first and will have updates for all that ordered them. :D

Well, it was a learning process... my first custom project in a large group. I didn't know any better. Parts alone ended up being about $100 per figure, which is insane. Really wish I could sew. :lol

You and me both. Between the vest and long coat, his outfit is kinda hard to come by. And obviously that shirt doesn't exist (until BillyB) so that has taken up most of your time.

I plan on displaying mine as a "Jail" Joker since I still haven't gotten the coat (I am bidding on one though!) so that will also show off your masterpiece of a shirt.

Know that I still revere Josh's painted shirts as much as anything he has ever done. And, to be fair, (to myself a bit here) I did push Billy in the direction I wanted on the shirts that Josh is now getting, so some of that finished look, is what I wanted. You are welcome there. At least that got solved for all.

And yes Josh, I too, wish I could sew. Working on that.... But until then, knowing others that can, is a blessing. I try to do what I do well, and others do what they do well. That is what makes it all so special.

Nice Joker and sculpt paint btw! :rock

One fine day at the Les Walker home, in walks Josh...

"I need your paints, your brushes, and your workbench."

"Hahahaha, you forgot to say please."

*Les smears paint all over Josh's face with his brush*

*Josh grabs Les's hand and picks him up throwing him accross the room*

*Les tosses Josh his brush*

"Take it."
