I'm really excited about this project. Having been a lifelong Myers fan, it's great to give back a little. And I am absolutely PUMPED to get that H2 Warlock head done now. :D

That bad boy is being molded as we speak.... Looking into Mohair options right now and clothing options. If anyone is interested in a full figure, let me know. Same for just a head.

I should have the prototype ready here in a few days at least. :D

Josh, I think i'm down for a full "Warlock" figure and just the H1 head again fully completed for my Sideshow Myers body!!!!

Yes indeed it will be, that way if people have the regular Myers and don't want a whole figure. All they have to do is pop it on and glue it down. :rock

And I just did a test cast, so I should have some painted pics before the day is out. :duff

Thanks a million Les, I really do appreciate that. I started out on Horror figs... Evil Ash, Freddy, Jason... it's great to get a chance to return to that genre. And to revisit a figure that I had done before I got really brave with my full on customs, that was a blast. Kinda like building a shoddy home and then tearing it down to rebuild it correctly. :lol

More to come. I will be making a H2 ^^^^ Warlock version of Michael Myers and hopefully eventually I can make that long awaited "Roy" from Jason V. :rock2

Once you get that first coat of white on there, you can Heath immediately. It's off just a tad, but for the scale, it's very nice. And painting it was a blast. Just followed the same formula for my 6th scale heads, but smaller and faster. :duff

Just to update all of my Joker customers, I wanted to give you guys a heads up... As to where you are on the list and what is done so far. My supplier is running late with my last suit sets, so that is holding me up. I'm short a few vests, so I'm trying to find a way around that as well. Really, the thing that is holding me back the most are the shirts. Those things take a LOT of tedious work from me. It's really an insane chore, but worth it. So that is why it's going so slow. Again, I appreciate your patience with me... and I really appreciate the business... you guys rule.

Here is the list...

Heads only:
Great1 (done, needs dremelled)
Michael Crawford (done, needs dremelled)
Kabukiman (in work)
Bwayne (in work)

Full figures:
Blake (finished, shipping soon)
Drunken Leprechaun (head done, painting shirt)
Phoenixram (head and clothing in work)
TNaig (head and clothing in work)
Snakesucker (head and clothing in work)
DarkKnight2K4 (head in work, clothing not yet arrived)
PayableOnDeath (head in work, clothing not yet arrived)

Dying is a challenge. Its not exactly a quick set up, process, and clean up either, so I don't blame you for wanting to dye in bulk. Plus these things are so small, its almost a waste of dye if you are just doing one pair of pants at a time.

Exactly... It gets so messy and my wife gets pissed at me for even using the stuff. :lol

And it's a waste unless you use it on at least 5 items per bath. And I am very eager to try it out on this new striped suit. I'm hoping the stripes stay. That way I can have darker pants on these Joker figs and they would have stripes as well! Closer to perfection. :D

The funny thing is, that the sculpt isn't all that bad. Once painted and on the shelf, looks like a tiny Heath. Especially from the front. From the sides it gets lost a bit, due to the jawline and the neck joint. But as a stationary little figure, it's pretty impressive for that scale.

And BIG HUGE thanks to MaulFan for hooking me up with the Joker and Batman figs, very very cool of him and I will not forget it. Was awesome to get them in last night. :rock

Buttmunch
05-11-2008, 11:37 AM
Yeah before your repaint I just thought it was a sculpt that at least resembled the Joker if nothing else. But I can definately see more Heath in him now. And like you said, considering the small scale, thats not too bad.

You should do a before and after pictures of everything you do now to show just how much you improved them!

Thanks man, I was actually surprised that I was able to get those small details in there. It was tough, but a fun challenge. I've never painted that scale before.

I just sat down a minute ago, almost finished with the first Myers head, almost finished with 2 more Joker heads and am going to take a little break.

I wanted to update everyone on my work schedule for the next few days. Will probably be a bit quiet here on the DA front. Tonight I work from 6-1am and tomorrow from 1-6pm. And then the next day from 1-6pm again. So, I know for sure that during those days my painting is going to fall to the wayside a bit. But I will be trying to squeeze in a few hours of painting here or there and will be painting like crazy Wed and Thurs when I am off. I am going to be mailing stuff off as well, as soon as I get my stimulus money.

Just wanted to keep you all updated. :rock

Agree with you there Josh, take a step back and look at him front on and the likeness is pretty good, I can just picture him walking down the street with the machine gun like the trailer. It's only really when you look at between front on and profile view does Heath get lost and mostly the Jay Leno jaw is the factor, but front on and profile are really nice. Can't beat that they can do this now with small action figures. I think that's why I still buy some figures like this, it's nice to see now the type of figures we dreamt of as kids, look at 80's Star Wars figures compared to the super articulated ones of today :google Glad they arrived safe and sound, be curious to see how you paint your own Joker.

Mattel's is actually quite nice for a $10 figure that's as much for kids to buy as adults. I'm sure they'd step it up a notch if it were a $20+ figure geared towards adult collectors. That's the fun of it though, if you repaint and aren't happy, it's only $10 and it's fairly easy to replace.

Well my photos sure as ^^^^ won't compete with that :lol That's creepy on multiple levels because it partly reminds me of the opening of Halloween: Resurrection which while having the only plus of featuring Michael more and a brief stint with JLC, probably one of the weaker entries in the series. Was thinking about it earlier, Halloween movies need Dr. Loomis, he became the perfect character to follow the story with and ended up being a saving grace for part 4-6, which would really have been weak if not for him, and given that both actors who've played the role have impressed me, it's not just about the actor.

Sorry, there's my Halloween fandom spilling out again haha, look great though Josh. I assume that's the Sideshow jumpsuit Blake's Michael is wearing?

DarkArtist81

My quote didn't work so my last post will make no sense without this.

Today was GREAT! I got a package from Triad toys and one from Les himself... Check it out... my SWAG! First is the Triad (Neo) Theodore figure, which is just awesomely painted and crafted. Second is a custom Lestat from Les, which is even MORE badassly crafted. I'm so happy to have him. Les did an amazing job on him, and to have it in my collection is really an honor. You know? Oddly enough I am not tired of it yet. It's gotten pretty easy to do, that's for sure. I AM tired of painting the shirts. :lol

But I can do that cracked Joker without thinking now. Those three unfinished ones, I am doing all three at the same time. It's developed that much into a system. Now, if I were to paint a clean Joker... it would take some time to deprogram me to pull it off. I'm so stuck in the "cracked" Joker pattern.

I'm trying to get most of these done though, so I can move into skin tones again and get some other work done on my shelf. That way I have a nice break from it before the HT heads and DCD heads start rolling in for paint jobs. :D

Hey guys! Sorry for the quietness as of late... Last night was crazy!

I got home from work and was very shocked when I arrived. My Wife had organized a surprise party for me, damn near 20 people over at the house waiting for me when I came through the door. It was a really cool experience, I was floored. Never had a surprise party before, it was freakin great.

So I spent the night hanging out with the family and drinking shots/beers... It went until 3am, so I went straight to bed and to work the next morning. So it's been crazy. It was so crazy, that I had packages waiting for me in my room.... and DIDN'T open them until today. :lol

The only customizing I was able to do was for my little nephew. Every time he comes over, he begs and pleads for me to make him something. So I just threw together some junk parts on a Hasbro body, gave him some ^^^^^in clothes and weapons... some bloody scratches and damages... and gave it to him. A 2 minute custom... but he loved it. :D

Anyhoo... I am off tomorrow... so will be doing LOTS of work and replying to my PM's. Thanks for the patience guys. :duff

Here it is... pre dye job...

http://www.monkeydepot.com/productimages/saturday/st0008.jpg

It's a great set... but we all know how limited Saturday Toys tends to be. They did have a Blue set available too, but now only Cotswold Collectibles has it. But seeing as though Michael wore Charcoal coveralls, dying is better.

The unique thing about the color was that under certain lighting it looked green, sometimes blue, sometimes gray. So it's really up to interpretation.

I recently watched Halloween again in the spirit of things and there really is no consistent shade in the movie. I'd say grey-green is probably most accurrate, seen plenty of other instances of mechanics wearing that shade. The only times it really seemed blue were the night shots but there was a blue tint to pretty much everything at that point, but outside stalking Laurie and Tommy it was definitely a grey-green mix, particularly because of oil and grease stains on it too. I think McFarlane and NECA went with blue as a marketing choice as blue would probably be more appealing, and it represents him towards the end of the film from the more Michael heavy scenes. I actually prefer the grey-green look, feels more true and it's so muted it also has a nice 70s feel to it. Another reason why the SSC figure never appealed to me, weird mask, odd fit to the overalls and a bizarre color that didn't seem right at all.

I think it was just a marketing choice because of the ambiguity of the true color. Like Josh said, it comes through as like 2-3 different colors throughout the movie. I'll post some screens later showing the various colors of Michael. I think McFarlane and the likes also probably took cues from the jumpsuit being blue in the sequels because their figures came out after them. Even in H20, Michael's jumpsuit was an olive green shade which really shows a strong attempt to reflect H1 and H2 in that sequel.

As Sean said, the suit has been something the fans have debated for years. I have heard that it was JC Penney's "Big Mac" coveralls that were used in Halloween 1. They were supposedly the Charcoal shade... which can look green, blue or gray depending on lighting. Most of the time they look like a greenish gray. I used them for my Myers costume and these Saturday Toys jumpsuits accurately replicate them. :rock

http://zoom.jcpenney.com//is/image/545-3150_charcoal.jpg?wid=500&hei=500&op_usm=1.5,.8,0,0&resmode=sharp

And DK2K, I love the HT Joker. My own custom head is and will always be an icon in my lineup. Something I absolutely love and feel that I did great with what I had available, but of course it has inaccuracies that need to be adjusted... hence the lateness of my current batch. I'm confident that my jacketless and coatless Joker is on par with the HT version for sure, no doubt about it. But HT tailoring is much better than my own and their coat RULES.

The Joker figure is undergoing revisions... I'm giving him striped pants, more accurate shoes and trying to do a card for each figure. So that should be fixed by the time I complete the Joker after next. :lol

Not to mention, Halloween was an independent film shot in the 70's, so color quality will vary from camera to camera as well as transfers and degredation of the film over the years. The good news is, you almost can't go wrong, any of the shades you see on screen will do.

I'm very honored to be doing this for you too! :duff

:lol

I agree, your Joker is an Icon and the only one I can see having in my personal collection. I just wanted your take. I knew it would inspire some changes... as that is normal, but I personally am very happy with my choice an can't wait to have it in my collection.

So what does the timeline look like at this time ?

i love the new HT joker but Josh's has something that I can't quite put my finger on. I think the likeness is better for a start but that's not the only thing. Good to see you're still working on these Josh - the sign of a true artist. Which is why I can't wait to get my heads back from you.

Thanks a lot guys! And yes, there will be a lineup pic posted tomorrow night when I get off. I want to finish these guys tomorrow night, no ifs ands or buts. I will post the progression for you guys. The jumpsuits are holding due to lack of money for the dye, Damn Davy Jones hit my account and I didn't have time to cancel him before SSC closed for the weekend. Hence my sale... :lol

But, they will be getting dyed ASAP at the beginning of the week and will be shipping out a LOAD of stuff all over the place by next weekend. :duff

:lol You can say that again... yesterday was just hectic, it was my day off, but I slept in and the Wife sent me on errands in the afternoon. And my hands hurt something awful, damn brooms and butlers. :monkey2

I have to work tonight, but it is a short easy shift... I dyed the Myers suits yesterday, not quite the color I wanted... but close enough... after weathering they will be fine. So pics forthcoming on those, hope to finish them tonight. Wasn't able to do much more.

But I have tomorrow off... so here's hoping I will have some stuff to show off. :rock

Ok, finally I have a few pics to show... It's not much, but at least it's progress. Today was rough. I was in one of my black moods for some reason. Just realized how much I hate my job and situation at this moment. It's really killing my drive and my art, so it hit me pretty hard today...

But thankfully, good news is around the bend! Financial Aid came around at long last, so I will be getting money for not only the Summer semester but the last one as well. So at least I can go back to school and cut back my work hours at the theater... as it will solely exist to give me spending money and free movie tickets. :D

Anyway... on to the few pics I DO have. Took a few last night, this is the shot of my first dyed jumpsuit. I sanded it, haven't weathered it fully or done any washes yet. And the resin knife is unpainted... but it's coming along. I WILL finish them tomorrow, right after I ship out a whole mess of stuff.

Thanks a lot guys! The jumpsuit was a tough one. First, the dye worked on the suit.. but left the stitching tan in color. So I had to go over each stitch by hand and color it with a sharpie to get it dark. And the suits are pretty stiff already, I thought the dye and water would soften them a bit... but they didn't. So to get it to look natural on the body, I did my sanding once the body was wearing it. It makes for more realistic wear and tear and creates folds in the fabric that look nice and real. :rock

Today I am shipping a whole mess of stuff, but once I get back... it's Myers time.

Well your efforts and craftsmanship are most appreciated. It's amazing to discuss the production of stuff with you and Les, neither one of you will settle for anything short of your best effort on a piece, and that makes the time they take all the worthwhile because you're getting the best you can. Can't wait to see the first finished Michael with your custom jumpsuit, the costume is as much a trademark of his look as the mask, and the headless figure looks really nice, damn near like a movie still already.

Thanks Sean... I like sharing the ups and downs of a figure with you guys, there are always pitfalls and compromise when you make a figure. Something interesting always seems to happen. :lol

I'm just really glad the knife mold worked. I wasn't sure how it would turn out. It's hard to mold small items like that, and since it was so long... it had to be a HUGE mold for this tiny knife. But it worked! The hands I chose though, don't like to hold the knife too well.. but what can you do? :banghead

Coveralls look perfect. This is going to be the definitive 1/6 Michael Myers fans have been waiting so long for.

MaulFan
05-29-2008, 09:48 AM
Eh, the knife will be just fine, and in a pinch, I can use those little rubber elastics from Hasbro figures. Ever since Rebelscum's trick to "tuck" Anakin's sleeve into his glove, I save all those little elastics I get, they're useful and being clear, can go unnoticed, I used one to help Jabba hold his glass for a while.

I'm glad you take the time to share the ins and outs of what you do, I'm always fascinated with see how things are done, from movies to figures. I know some people prefer "magic and mystery" to how it's done, but I'm a collector where I like to appreciate all the work put into a piece, which is why I never do MIB collecting, and the more I can learn about what went into it, the more appreciation I have for the end result.

Did you have to mod the jumpsuit to get the front open like it is or does it just work that way? It looks perfect way the collar flips up around the neck and just a slight opening to see the neck and undershirt.

DarkArtist81
05-29-2008, 09:58 AM
The jumpsuit does that all by itself! Which is why it's so perfect. When I saw pics online and saw the cut of the suit, I knew it would work out exactly the way I wanted it to. You can close up the neck with the collar up, to get the Halloween 2 look... OR... leave it open with the collar up, to get that peek of neck and undershirt for the original look. It's PERFECT.

As soon as I get some more money piled up, I will be buying up as many of these as I can find... just to make sure I have them for Myers figures in the future. :rock

Well it paid off, and I'm sure glad you went the 15 rounds with that one. One of the big reasons the color of the suit is so hard to pin in the movie is all the grime on it. Worn in looking costuming and all really helps to sell it as more than just a figurine. I shall call him, Mini Michael.

Thanks man, it means a lot to know I had a tiny bit to do with this. Myers, as with all of your work, is amazing. I might have to watch halloween again tonight to celebrate. The only thing to decide is which Anchor Bay DVD to use...the double-disk with a slightly more orange hue, or on of the other three that they released...:lol

That DVD comment made me think of something.

Josh, have you seen the extended edition of Halloween with the clips added from the TV cut that were shot during H2? If so, what's your thought. I kinda like some of the parts they put in, like Loomis addressing the hospital about keeping Michael locked up. "He's waiting." "For what?" "I don't know." Man was Donald Pleasance a great actor, to deliver such a compelling character in a low budget indy movie really speaks to his skill and committment to the job.

I agree, I dug the scene with Loomis talking to the board, but that was really it. I didn't really dig the rest. The extra scenes of Laurie, I believe, are shot with a towel around here head because her hair looked a lot different.

I love watching the first 2 Halloween flicks, it really reminds me of being a young teenager. I would have to say some of my greatest memories as a young teen was watching movies like Halloween. Michael Myers will always be mysterious and creepy boogeyman!

Yeah, I love that hospital scene. Donald made those scenes much more than TV filler. And it was a nice tease of the kinds of great lines he was going to have in Halloween 2. The bit where he is screaming that he shot him.... 6 TIMES... classic. :rock

Awesome figure DA, i received some of the saturdays toys jumpsuits today and there fanatastic.

Ive assembled it onto a buck and its perfect, without the head it looks like Myers the way the jumpsuit hands onto the body, thinking of adding some height to the legs to make him a bit tallers and reduce the wrinkles from the legs.

I was wondering if i could buy one off those resin knives off you, i thought i had one but what i have is a jason machete instead.

And have you got some picsof the Bespin Luke you repainted, ive been trying to find it but your thread is so big and ive had no luck.

Thanks Ian! And yeah, I could most certainly help you out on the knife. It's IMPOSSIBLE to find, hence the mold. I knew it would cause me headaches if I did not do it. :lol

Here is the Bespin Luke... took me a while to find it myself.

Can I ask what you use to get your Daniel Craig Bond's hair color so good? Mine keeps coming out the wrong color. Is there a blonde mix paint out there?

Well, the Bond hair was tricky... I just mixed a light brown with yellow, added a hint of skin color to bring out the right color. It's just a mixing game.. I kept mixing until I had it. :lol

For those who don't know about my Friday the 13th project in the horror section... I wanted to let you know that there is movement. I made a mold of the mask, so not only can I make any mask from any of the films with it (except for 9 and 10), but I will be making Roy from Friday V and Jason from VIII. Here is a pic of the mask, the mold subject on the left... moving to the test cast in the middle and the first finished one on the right.

Here is the finished Roy head, just put a few coats of paint on it to show the sculpt. It's not the final paint at all. Mask still needs straps as well. I will be casting the head tomorrow.

Yes indeed! Awesome book, I love it. And a great reference for Jason projects. :D

And DK! Great news for all Joker orders! Some of the striped pants have finally begun arriving, so I will finally be able to dye some stuff here soon. The shirts are the only thing that takes me a long time.

If ANYONE decides to NOT have the crazy design on the sleeves, let me know. Because if anyone does go that route, I can get it done MUCH faster than it takes me now. The sleeves take me a full 2 days to get finished, IF I can sit down and actually devote the time to them. :google

I received the Michael Myers and Joker customs yesterday and I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY. Let me just say that pictures do not do justice to these pieces of art. I need to get off of my behind and learn how to post pictures on the net so I can show them off.

Michael is standing right in front of my life-size Myers bust that I got from Gruson. As soon as I move into a new place, I'll have a nice display with all of my Halloween posters on the wall.

I am absolutely loving both figures!

I hope you do post pics, would be cool as Hell to see the setup. :devil
