BTW, his lips are darker than Anakin's so you can start your complaining now if you want :lol Seriously though, he does have dark lips, but they work fine for him. I really like how his outfit is all dirty stuff. Even his undershirt is. It is a very nice touch to make him creepier.

07-26-2006, 02:14 PM
Cool, I was wondering how his griminess would turn out... and it looks awesome! Can't wait to have him in hand!!!

BTW, if its not too much trouble could you get a closer shot of his heas... oh and drop that Unmensch figure in the mail for me. I've been looking for one of him:monkey3

No Problem! I'll take some close ups tomorrow!

The Sculpted hands rock!
The face is perfect for the amount of blood and grime on the shirt.

I just got that Unmensch figure at the show! Have both sculpts.. Cool Zombie!
They're making another one with a huge Saw weapon next year some time!

Cheers!

Also, really cool to here they are gonna continue the Dust figures... so far it looks the Zombies are the only figures worth a darn, so nice to see another one!!!

I'm just waiting for Friday. SSC Declined my card for Freddy yesterday and I won't have money until tomorrow. I sent them an email and informed them of the situation, and they seem to be waiting to charge it. I'm just glad it was him and NOT Subject 5.

If I lose Freddy I'll be fine... I'll just hunt him down later.. But I can not stand to lose Subject 5... That would kill me... :monkey2

I think my card might actually get declined as well... for some reason my available credit is less that what it should be. I'm gonna wait and see what happens and I might have to do some quick money transfers so I don't lose him or the Vaderkin! Moving and being broke sucks :monkey2

Thanks Chris.... I know they got my email, and they've been quiet so far. I think they are waiting until tomorrow and see if I am telling the truth. At least I hope so. I trust them. They have never done me wrong and this is the only time this has happened to me.... So at least I have that on my side.

SSC CS is great though, I'm sure that it will be ok....

No ship notice yet, but it has changed to "item shipping soon." The dead T-shirts are the same, shipping soon. It would be nice if they shipped together. A little death from SDCC in a box..

I have to resolve an issue about a future order, and I have been waiting to contact the customer service, as I am sure that they are still in recovery mode after San Diego. The staggered shipping of figures seems to indicate that everybody over there is working their hardest just to catch up from the con. I am sure they will be in touch as soon as they can come up for air!

Thanks so much for the reminders. Got to the bank in plenty of time, cause its Friday here and the banks are closed over the wekends. A follow up email from Sideshow would have been too late for me to act upon.

Got mine too!!! Man this is one badass figure and I love the packaging. Interesting that he lacks wrist articulation... I don't have the patient Zero (yet) so I'm not sure if thats the same. Probably the most impressive is the distressing of his outfit, it looks excellent! And it appears that his flashlight is diecast... a nice touch! Mine arrived today, along with Freddie dream warrior. They're in the house, but I haven't had time to sit down and really examine them. I'll do that later. I'm just having a good time reading everyone else's posts, and looking at the photos! Packaging on Subject #5 is cool, I agree, but I really wish that all of Sideshow's new figures came in that truly terrific wrap-around magnetic box that the SW figures come in! Now THAT is PACKAGING!!!

Awesome!! I can't wait to have mine! I'm still kicking myself for selling Zero... he was soooo awesome...:monkey2

Oh and to answer your question GB, Zero DID have wrist articulation.. but normal Sideshow hands, looked like the same mold as the Bonds. Just with bloody fingers.

I love that they made special hands for this one, really adds a level of depth to the figure.

galactiboy
08-09-2006, 11:24 PM
Good to know... yeah the hands on this one are similar to what they did with Jason 3, but they are really gnarled and boney looking! Thanks for the pictures galactiboy and Evilface. The head on your Gaurd looks totally rancid Evilface. Better than I could have hoped. It's only a matter of time till the infection spreads across continents to this side of the world.

The rest of his body looks almost 'normal' might have to get mine a tshirt. They should have supplied 1/6th ones with orders of the full size tee's

galactiboy
08-10-2006, 02:07 PM
Yeah, the little bit of chest showing is a bit weak... but overall not bad. But the gruesomeness of the face is excellent... there's even a nastly looking chew mark on his neck. Surprising they can pull off a complicated paint app like this, but drop the ball on Anakin?!?

I hear you on the tripod! That's the only way I can get good shots of my SSC Star Wars figures. Without the tripod, all my non-flash shots came out extremely blurry. I ended up buying a tripod at Wal-Mart for $17.00, and it works great.

Still, blurry works for this figure. It looks as though the photographer was trying to run away or shaking in fear. And you didn't have to mess around in Photoshop to get that effect either.

Funny thing is...I just did something along those lines an hour ago with an old pic I took of my McFarlane MM7 Leatherface, but I had to add in the blur.

Thanks, Josh! It's supposed to be a crime scene/newspaper photo that's very old. If you look close enough, I put faint traces of blood splattering on the pic. You can see it clearest on the apron.

Now I'm really wishing I'd ordered a Subject 5 figure. I'm not a zombie guy, but that figure is really cool!! I only hope SSC finally makes this an official line with regular release.

Definitely invest in a cheap wal-mart tripod. I have one and it makes a big difference when trying for low-light or natural lighting.

Sigh......the pics look awesome! Makes me want to take out my Dream Warrior Freddy and Subject 5 and pose them, rather than to sell them.........

Since my post in the SDCC Freddy thread, I have taken Subject 5 out of his cardboard and plastic prison.
The head sculpt and costuming are excellent. The bite mark on the back of his neck looks great but unless you turn his head down and to the side you don't really see it.
The costume has nice details but it's biggest flaw is the bloody paint they used on the fabric. It needs more variation in tone to look like real blood. Hands look great and are quite expressive even if you can only turn them.
The paint is both good and bad. In some areas, there are subtle effects that really stand out, in others there needs to be a bit more color to really bring out the sculpt on the head and hands. My favorite paint detail is the red used on what appear to be pustules on his face.

The accessories are really lacking. On Patient Zero, he came with a snack and a newspaper that was printed on both sides. Although I would've liked even more accessories, the ones he came with looked great. Subject five's accessories are his keys and real metal key chain, walkie talkie, watch, metal flash light, and a magazine. The key chain is well done and the walkie talkie is alright although I think it's reuse.
The magazine is quite poor. No printing inside and no pages on the inside, Dragon has made magazines in 1/6 far more detailed then this. I have to ask why even include it?
The flashlight doesn't need to be made out of metal. I get the feeling that Sideshow made it out of metal to make us feel like we got more then we really did. if SSC made the flashlight plastic and included a new snack it would've gone a lot farther then a partial magazine and metal flashlight.
Subject Five has more accessories but they're less satisfying then Patient Zero's snack and newspaper.

If you had to make a choice between the two and you got Freddy instead, then I think you made the right decision. I'm far more satisfied with Freddy then Subject 5.
I'm not saying Sub. 5 is a terrible figure or that I'm completely disappointed, he's quite good but Freddy beats him hands down in value and satisfaction.
And this is coming from a guy who loves Zombie movies more then the Nightmare on Elm Street movies!

Ok, I got my Subject 5 last week and was a little underwhelmed by the tamed down production paint apps. So... I did a little altering and got him back to his original gory and burnt state. I hope you all enjoy!

First here is a shot with the flash to show the paint for what it is...

Then the darker shots... forgive the orange hue... I need to take regular daylight shots tomorrow... :D

Thanks King! I just really wanted him to look a little more like a zombie should. I remember seeing those prototype pics and thinking how gross and wet his burn looked. I just wanted to bring that back with my figure. :D

Glad to see it worked.

Woo Hoo, got Subject 5 on Friday! I got a spot for one more Dead on the shelf. Am I going to have to wait until SDCC 2007 to fill it? :wacky

thanks for the review, specially the accesory bit. :devil I'm definitely going to keep mine. ..

....this for customizers....i agree with ScreamingMetal about the blood on his clothes. What can you recommend using to apply on the clothing to look more bloody and i guess "real" ?

What I tried to do was drybrush a little black and blackened red onto the spot and edges to get a more realistic effect. I also drybrushed that onto several other areas as well as the fingers.... to look as if he's been digging around a victims chest cavity....:lol

Subject 5 doesn't stand a chance against Luke. But Luke's "surprise" headsculpt made the scene pretty funny:rotfl .

Awesome repaint Darkartist!!!
