View Full Version : Bespin Luke: The Holy Grail of the SW 12" line
I was never more into Luke (or any SW character) as a kid as seeing him go up against Vader on the big screen in 1980.
With the 12" version we can get the grey fatigues, classic ANH/ESB saber, another awesome gunbelt and blaster, and hopefully a Mark Hamill likeness equal to or greater than Jedi Luke.
Maybe even a backpack for Yoda as an exclusive (the severed Vader/Luke head would be nice but probably out as a possibility due to the PF).
For the expression I hope they give him either the grim determination when he first lights up against Vader or the "ready for action" look where he's pointing his gun at the camera like on the original action figure card.
I know they just did Dagobah Luke in Premium Format. I know we just got Jedi Luke as a 12". I know many want Darth Maul, Boba Fett, Stormtroopers, etc, first but I don't care. I still want them to do my favorite incarnation of my favorite character absolutely as soon as possible.

i agree a bespin luke would be great to have. but i just dont want over-saturation of one character. if a bespin luke is on the list for possibilites i hope he will be further down the line. for an exclusive item -- how about a severed limb??? it might be a little graphic but sideshow doesnt need to show blood and gore just a little stump. :rotfl
I would think that like Mace the severed limb would be standard. Keep in mind that another Luke would at the worst be a possible oversaturation for what, 6000 people? That still leaves A LOT of SW fans that are probably just now aware of the Sideshow line that still don't even have a 12" Luke yet (myself included.)
I don't mind waiting for them to fix arm length and whatever else the sculpt might need, but once they're ready I hope they bring him on.
And releasing another Luke isn't like releasing a second Kit Fisto in one year. Its flipping LUKE SKYWALKER we're talking here. If Bespin Luke came out next that's still only one Luke every nine figures. And I think its pretty safe to say he won't be next (Maul seems to be a lock.)
So at best it would be one Luke every ten figures. That would be acceptable for the most iconic hero of the saga. Bring him on! :chew

^^ good point. and i guess it could save some money for people that dont want doubles of one character. (i know bespin luke and jedi luke are different) i just want some more cool aliens like kit fisto to be made. i want my palpatine, dooku, and maul.

A Bespin Luke would be great. Seeing that Empire is my favorite SW movie, I would love to have this version, but I think Sideshow made the right call releasing Jedi Luke first for a couple reasons:
-They wanted an iconic version of the character; most people tend to think of either the New Hope costume or Jedi, and ANH Luke already got a turn as a Premium Format.
-I think they wanted to avoid re-using accessories right away. Both ROTS Anakin and Bespin Luke would have the same lightsabers (Now if only SS would worry about accessory re-use that much with Buffy and Angel figs...)
I always wanted a good Jedi Luke figure. I was never happy with any version of him. Hasbro's first POTF offering was a disaster (too tall) and every subsequent one wasn't much better. Their 12" offerings were awful, the Medicom Luke was too costly, and by the time SS picked up the 12" license I'd all but given up hope. Their Jedi Luke is like a childhood dream come true.
I'll buy him when they make him, but it's gonna be awhile.

Maybe as an exclusive.

Keep in mind that even if they do announce Bespin Luke immediately after the assumed Darth Maul announcement then that means that at the earliest we wouldn't be seeing him until January-March of 2007. That is definitely a while in my book and I hope they don't make us wait too much longer than that.
It would also be a nice kick-off to the 30th anniversary and like Jedi Luke he could be posed with Yoda and against Vader or Boba Fett (which can all come out immediately after Luke.) :D

Luke is my favorite character so I can't wait for an ESB version.

Looks like SSC has made my favorite Luke already. Anyway, I'd like to see some other mayor characters coming from SSC before they start doing new versions of an already existing one (I know, Anakin Sith apprentice... but they had to do something for the SDCC).
I like the idea of a Bespin Luke, but really, I'm holding out for a Hoth Leia, a Bespin Lando, C3PO, R2D2, Yoda, Darth Vader, a Stormtrooper, Palpatine, ...

I really want a Bespin Luke eventually, but yeah I agree that it should come later.... once we have at least a few more principal characters... Maybe another year?
He is my second favorite incarnation of Luke and I love what you could do with him... He could be nice and clean, like when he arrives... Or.. he could be all battered and his clothing a little tattered, as it was when the movie ended.
It'll probably be nice and clean, because SSC tends to go with the character as we first see them.. ala ROTS Anakin and Obi. (no burned clothing)
If that is the case... I am going to buy two and customize!! :chew

Nice picture!!:rotfl I agree that Bespin Luke would be a great figure but I much rather have other characters coming before we do another Luke. I mean, we just had another Luke for the PF line. Bring on Fett or Sidious, PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAASE!!:monkey3
I really hope that the theme for 2007 is ultra-core characters. I'd love to have a Bossk or Hammerhead thrown in there, but we need Bespin Luke, one or two Leias, Padme, Palpatine, suited Darth Vader, Chewie, Yoda, R2 and 3PO! I'd even consider a Stormtrooper to be ultra-core as they're so iconic and can be featured in virtually any OT display assortment.

As awesome as the face looks that Andy did, the hair's just too dramatic, which is probably what LFL axed it for. Andy's face with a calmer hair like the production figure and that would have been awesome. I don't think I'd have bought the figure with the head as it is, I just don't find the hair representative of Bespin Luke, it looks Luke Unleashed. Again, Andy did a great job on the face and even the hair, as it's done, is well sculpted, just not my cup of tea.

As far as I'm concerned looking at Mat's previous jobs Jedi Luke was a fluke more than anything else because Bespin Han, Yavin Luke were both horrid failures and Bespin Luke was a step up but for me judging just on the facial sculpt was not up to par.
That is correct. It was strange seeing the torch go on to Trev for the ANH portrait after all the others being done by Mat.
I'm glad for it. If it were up to me Trev would be allowed to sculpt a Bespin and Jedi Luke as accessory HS maybe with different expressions so fans could customized around. I'd love the same with Andy's sculpting all three ANH Luke, ESB Luke and an ROTJ Luke. Separate HSs offered in accessory packs would be a nice touch especially if they all use the Pro with the easy to swap heads.
If that is true then, I can see why. Bespin and Yavin sculpts were failures.
Agreed. Mat has some great sculpts under his belt but I haven't really been wowed by his record on this line except Jedi Luke which is dead on Hamill except the dumb expression on his face.

While the ANH is up for debate, and the Yavin head... just a turd (both sculpt and paint), I don't necessarily see the Bespin sculpt as a failure. We clearly know who the figure is supposed to be and while the likeness isn't 100% accurate, it's still definitely Hamill.

I like this expression when he's facing Vader for the first time. I think a repaint of the current sculpt might come close. But it is difficult to make the eyes appear slightly upward because a subtle difference in eyelid position can change the whole look from intense eyes, to deer in head lights.
http://i38.tinypic.com/5tyw5g.jpg
Mat Falls may have used this screen cap for reference when sculpting. The face is quite similar. But the hair on the sculpt is wrong. Infact, I think the hair might be throwing off the likeness more than the face. If we could get a sculpt that looked like this with correct hair, it would be a perfect display piece to complement a Vader.
