Better thing about the exclusive is you can remove the cape if you want and it's the regular version.

I agree with both posts, hence my dillemma when ordering the regular.

tomandshell
05-23-2006, 10:22 AM
I ordered the exclusive, and if I want it to be movie accurate, I simply have to remove the cape. With the exclusive, you have options. With the regular you are stuck--and the cape looks really great, so don't be stuck without it if you can help it.

I know it costs more for the options, but isn't that true in just about every area of life? When we built our house we had to make about 1000 of these kinds of decisions. Save money, or go for the options? Same thing with buying a car. Same thing when we customized our new baby down at the Gattaca Corporation. Life's full of tough choices...

Darth Loki

You're always good for a chuckle. I would never skimp on this piece of all. I kind of wish I had for some of the other exclusives but not this one. GG needs to ship today for me to get him on Saturday, doesn't look like I'll get to enjoy him this long weekend after all. :monkey2

After seeing Grievous at Comic-Con last year, I knew instantly that the Exclusive was a "must have." The color in the cape showcases the figure within. Should I decide to remove the cape to make it movie accurate, I can always drap the cape at Grievous' feet. :D

tomandshell
05-24-2006, 11:46 AM
Sales tax on Grievous will be about $35 on top of the purchase price.

And before the Europeans jump all over me, that's not a complaint! I know that you poor folks have to wait months to get something that you pay twice the cost in added fees and I do feel your pain. You are probably the most loyal fans of all, because you have to pay more and wait longer.

As a CA resident, I just consider the sales tax to be an "overnight shipment" fee, since I get my packages about 12-14 hours after getting the shipment e-mail. (When FedEx doesn't mess up...)

Darth Loki
05-24-2006, 12:04 PM
I asked about different shipping options and they told me it's almost double just to get it 3 days (normally takes 4). I can wait the extra day. Now if it were almost double to get it overnighted, that'd be a different story.

Agent0028
05-24-2006, 12:09 PM
Wow, double just to shorten it one day? That's crazy! I wonder why its so much more...

Darth Loki
05-24-2006, 12:14 PM
Because it would be air instead of ground.

Just checked, no pre-authorization on the CC :monkey2

Zoomaround
05-24-2006, 12:16 PM
I'm sure some of us freaks would be more than happy to pick up our orders directly from the warehouse in order to reduce shipping fees :D

Agent0028
05-24-2006, 12:34 PM
Even though its air it seems like almost double would be more like 2nd day air or something. I order from a bookstore in Oregon and I don't think its almost double for expedited shipping unless its second day, and overnight really hikes it up. That might be USPS though, I can't remember how they ship... Might also be the size of the box or something.

Loki, as far as 'sending out in order of when the piece was ordered' is concerned: I remember that the Xmen VS diorama was shipped in the US to wait-listers way before the people in the EU got their regular (exclusive) order. And looks like it'll be the same with Grievous. But, I don't mind to much. There is certainly a logistics reason for this. As long as I receive the statue in good order, I'm happy.

I would guess 20" give or take a couple. My vanity is 17" deep, and about 3" of the base hangs off, which is why I had to turn him sideways.

Agent, can you tell us something about the assembly of this piece? Is it hard work, are there things we must watch out for?

Edit: On your first pic, GG doesn't really look much larger (higher) than Darth Vader...

Damn good idea! I may steal your idea and do that with mine. :D

I'm gonna try to post some more pics, they're not the greatest and they're with flash...sorry...

But first things first. Alice, GG actually isn't any taller than Vader, but he is slightly hunched so that must be the reason, his lightsaber does stick up slightly higher. As for it being on the floor, the lighting in the house is horrible and there was no way I was attempting to take him outside, so the only place I could get decent lighting was directly under a floor lamp in the living room. They are both safely in my room now, not on the ground. :p

Loki and Mini-Rock I'll try to get better measurements, its difficult since its shaped awkwardly any suggestions on how to get a better measurement?

As for assembly, it isn't difficult. The torso connects to the legs in the same way that the feet go into the base on all PF's, just a little round hole and peg (no jokes! :lol ). The two arms on each side are one piece, and they have a peg with a notch that slides onto the torso. The worst part of course is how fragile it is. So far no breakage, but the shoulder plate did come off on mine, so I just need to glue it back in. The lightsaber blades have to be stuck into the hilt and the one that kinda points down falls out easily.

I think I got everyone but if I missed a question, just repost it. I'll do my best to get up better pictures.

Okay, got the rest of them fixed where I can post them. I figured out that I have to make the picture smaller, which pretty much means cutting stuff out so that's the reason they pictures are off center etc, just trying to get as much stuff into the area.

On the first picture in the previous post you can see the really small piece of polystone that connects the shoulder blade to the rest of the figure, that's the piece that worries me most about breaking off.

Awesome Agent! Again, big congrats dude!

As for measurements, with the statue facing you, measure how wide it is (farthest point left to farthest point right) and repeat for width. Height would be from bottom of base to the tip of the saber. No worries if it's too much trouble though. :)

Man, I must have checked my CC about 20 times today to see if I had been charged. I've never been so disappointed that almost $500 wasn't charged to my card. :(

Agent0028
05-26-2006, 07:36 PM
I'll give the measurements a try tomorrow, I think what I'm going to do is use a piece of cardboard to mark where the widest marks are and measure it that way. Height will be easy. The width and depth are difficult because they're not on the same plane.

As for box pics, still working on those, for the life of me I do not understand why these pictures are so friggin' big. I thought the box pics woulda been the easy ones. And on the topic of the box, lemme just say that it is going to be a PITA to put Grievous back in it when I move.

Oh, and thanks for all the congrats you guys. It's a truly beautiful piece (even if my mom does say its ugly :lol) and you'll all be pleased. As far as not having the cape, gotta say I don't mind not having it.

I am also really down about this. After getting the 20-25 day notice on April 24th, I have been doing the math and assuming that Grievous would be in my hands by Memorial Day. Then the 25 day window came and went with nothing. Then finally a 3-5 day notice, and I realized that he actually could be shipping this week! Finally, confirmation yesterday that he did indeed begin shipping! I assumed that since I ordered him within the first half hour he was available, I would be getting that shipment confirmation e-mail as soon as they began to go out. Then nothing. My hopes were high for today, and I have been checking my e-mail continually and looking to see if anything was coming up with my CC account. And nothing...

Didn't ship yesterday. Didn't ship today. Now it couldn't possibly ship for at least another four days at the earliest. This has been one of my most anticipated pieces, so I hope you will forgive my whining and crying. It's going to be a long week or so of continuing to wait...

Glad to be of help Alice, the more I look at this figure the more I like it. In some ways I actually like that I have it facing sideways, it's not a bad view for it. Not having the cape I can't say that I would definitely display without it, but I can certainly say that it looks wonderful even without the cape. I don't think you will be at all disappointed not having the cape Mini-Rock.

I took the measurements which came out to Height: 22.5" this is from the shelf to the tip of the back left hand saber (the blue one if you put the blades in as depicted on the box), I measured the width from the back right hand (holding the green lightsaber) and used the the bottom of the lightsaber handle that is in GG's left hand (green) these two seemed to be the farthest (furthest?) apart and got 18". The depth I measure from the front of the base to the tip of the back left hand saber (blue) and 22".

I feel pretty confident that these measurements are accurate, however since they are on different height levels and not parallel it was impossible to simply measure from one point to the next, so I had to use the measuring tape to measure from the point of measurement to the shelf and I made a mark on the shelf and measured the distance between my two marks. Like I said I feel confident, but I would advise anybody to wait to order a case just to be on the safe side. I would just feel really bad if I screwed the pooch during my measurements and someone case is too small. If you add two or three inches to each side it would fit because I can't possibly see myself being off by more than that, but if you are very particular about how much excess room there is it'd certainly be best to wait.

Sorry I'm not more confident, its just like I said, I'd just hate for someone to use my measurements and it mess up their display...

Mini-Rock
05-27-2006, 08:48 PM
Thanks for doing that Agent. 22" doesn't seem very tall at all. Vader is about 22" tall from foot to the top of the helmet, and the saber adds about another inch and a half. I thought for sure that the saber in the upper left hand (Grievous facing forward, and looking directly at him) was higher than Vader's helmet. Are you sure about the height? Yeah, I'm not worried about the cape. Like I said, I know it'll look amazing with and without it. For me, it's an unnecessary accessory that in no way will reduce the greatness of this piece without it judging from the pics I've seen. The exclusive will be easy enough to get if I change my mind also; although, I don't see that happening.

Regarding the expensive acrylic cases, I agree with carbo. If funds are an issue, try to get the best bang for the buck; but, at the same time, make sure you are getting a quality cabinet that is completely sealed. Most cabinets aren't unless you are looking at cabinets that run well over a grand. It's worth it, though, to make sure the cabinet, or case, is completely sealed to protect your collectible as much as possible. :)

05-27-2006, 09:09 PM
I measured again, and my mom measured and we both got 22.5", the lightsaber is above Vader's head, which I measured at 21.5", and I swiveled GG around so his blade is right next to Vaders and it wasn't as tall as Vader's blade, so as far as height is concerned getting on the same height as Vader's would be just fine.

BTW, a little warning, dunno if I mentioned it or not, the lightsaber blade that is in Grievous' front left hand (green on the picture, the one that's sorta pointing down) falls out really easily, at least mine does. It's fallen out a couple times before, now its fallen off and rolled behind the vanity. :cuss

Slightly off topic, but in regards to using a "dust can" that only works on surface dust. It takes much more than that to remove dust that quickly binds to the surface. The damage alters the surface chemically (changing its appearance) and is irreversible. So, yeah, something is definitely needed. ;) :chew

Actually, dust alone doesn't need high humidity or direct sunlight, dust mites do. Regular household dust, on the other hand, only needs to land on an object to have an effect. Sadly, spraying a little tetrafluorethane around won't combat dust that has bound itself to an object. But, hey, that is completely off topic. I only mention it since a "dust can" was listed as a source for dealing with dust.

If they don't ship them out first come first served, then I would like to know how they do ship so I can plan accordingly. If it's alphabetically, let me know so I can change my name. I have gotten no notice and also my order status says "Order placed"...not even "Shipping soon". I called SS and they assured me that my order was fine. I got in on the preorder for the exclusive too. I have no idea how what order or how they go about this, but it is a little crazy sometimes.

OK. I called and they told me that they were still waiting for all of the product to arrive so that they could ship them all out together. They are not expecting them until Friday, and so I am looking at shipment next week.

So have you all been lying to me when you said that yours already shipped? I still have not even been pre-authorized, and as I posted in the other thread, this is what my nine day old 3-5 day notice says:

We will BEGIN "pre-authorizing" credit cards for this purchase within the next 24 hours, in the sequence in which all of the pre-orders for this item were placed.

I think that you guys are all messing with my brain. I was one of the first to order, and I was told that the first to order would be the first to be pre-authorized, and Sideshow says that they are still waiting for the product to arrive before they start shipping. I now believe that this is all an elaborate hoax from all you board members trying to drive me insane. All the evidence points that way. But I'm not going to fall for your tricks!!! You can't fool me! I'm not crazy!!! I'm not crazy!!! I'm not crazy!!!

Tom,

Well unless Sideshow messed up my order and sent me a regular Grievous I should be getting the Ex tomoorow or friday. All my stuff is sent to my parents house so GG will arrive there tomorrow and I will get him on friday. Hopefully Anakin will be there to.

My initial oder was placed April 29. I decided to cancel it during the middle of January. They then contacted me about the flexpay option and I took it. About a month ago I called them and asked if the Flex pay Ex GG would ship the same time as the others and they said yes. As I posted earlier I got my notice last week and as soon as I get him I will get some pics posted.

05-31-2006, 02:40 PM
Thanks, Gran! Hope you like him--he's really an outstanding piece! Only something that amazing from Sideshow could inspire the levels of stress and frustration and anticipation that I have been experiencing over the last week. Sounds like the wait list was really the way to go with Grievous if you wanted him shipped quickly! Now I know... :monkey2

Did anybody else whose Grievous already shipped last week use Flexpay? Maybe they are processing the Flexpays and wait lists first. Still trying to make sense of the situation...

Well, since I, like most people, are highly awaiting pics of a caped Grievous, I guess I'll post this pic I found of the collection at Sideshow. I'd say I'm with ya Tom in that I won't hear anything till next week.

Has your credit card been preauthorized yet? Even forgetting about the fact that they said they would be processing the cards according to the order they were placed--which they obviously aren't--if they are expecting to possibly begin shipping again in two days, you would think that they would be preauthorizing our cards by now. Either way, this whole situation is mysterious and confusing.

They are obviously not giving priority service to the devoted customers (re: obsessive freaks) that sat around their computers last April waiting to be the first to order.

First to order = Last to ship... :monkey2

Hope we all get some good news sooner rather than later!

hi to all again

I was on vacation and far away from net for the last 10 days

I got my info e-mails etc also and get excited to get him. I went to customs and check with the governmental and private customs companies just to make sure how much more I will pay in addition

unfortunately what I have been told is I have to pay over 350 $ for 600 $ (450 + 150 shipping)
so if GG gets stuck at customs I will have to pay 950 $ in Turkey. I still can afford this but then later I will have to cancel exclusive hulk vs spider, and I really want to get that piece for I am a comic fan with over 7000 comics

What I have been advised is: to buy GG from ebay or some other retailer and then ask sender to write a lower value on the customs paper to reduce 350 $

What I am afraid is the difficulty to find it later on for 450 $ but on the other hand to see that regular version goes as low as 350 $ makes me think that may be the exclusive also will drop in price

For a collector from Turkey 450+150 $ was even a high price which I already accepted but additional 350 $ is killing me

what you friends can advise me. Shall I cancel it and go from ebay later on? Does it really worth 950 $ if I continue to buy from SS?

Please help :monkey2

I feel so sorry for you Gambit!

I don't think it's a decision any of us can help you with. It depends on how much money you have to spend on these and how much they are worth to you. I doubt you'll find the Exclusive GG cheaper than $500, I've already seen him go for more than that. The regular will probably be available for around $350 or less.

I am not sure how much you trust us on this board, but you could send your GG exclusive to someones house here in the States and they could ship it you from there. THat way when they ship it out to you, they can put a lower value on it.
