the Royce body type is similar to the Wolverine/Comedian body type.

Love the boots. the diameter of the neck is just a slight bigger than the diameter of the Fenix neck, so you can only make a hole in the head so big and it barely fits over the neck stump but you can push it down a little more.

do you think the perseus body would be a good stand in for supermans body ,he seems to have good realistic arms and legs his neck looks ok ,not to sure about his chest as im not sure how to remove his chest piece cheers chris

Looks really nice, but the head does seem to be too small.
Still a very very cool custom work!

that's a great looking custom! the boots are the best part!

I'm curious as to why the neck seems so long on 16k's one, but on rebelpig's, the neck looks pretty ok?

the paint job on that fenix head is looks fantastic though!

he just needs to drill either a little deeper or wider for more of the neck to go into.

rebelpig
02-14-2011, 02:13 AM
It could be the neck line of the suit too. Its absolutely spot on, but can I think make the neck look longer. The cut of the mattel suit is very different.
Plus yes, drill deeper and wider, reviewing the pics, it does sit a few mm higher than mine. But its a fantastic piece.
I think its amazing what a few of us can put together when we put our minds to it.
I normally always prefer a production piece to a custom, but this time I'm so pleased with how this all came out.
Who needs Hot toys Eh?

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback! :D really useful!

So I've shortened the neck about 1/2 a centimeter. Not sure it's that obvious on the picture though. I used Wolverine as a template. So, what do you guys think? Enough or not?

It has the same arms but different chest piece. I usually go on ebay to check on the pics and see the differences. Unfortunately, I can't copy and paste their pics here for show.

HT should get the rights to copy and sell this one!

If we have to wait much longer they won't have to, everyone who wants one will do this. Arnie Kim has obviously seen the customs that are coming out.
When customisers who get together can produce this level of figure themselves, who needs a licensed mass produced figure?
Said it before I'm bored with the wait now for hot toys (even though I'll probrably get one). I'm looking forward to Lex next, gonna be fun upgrading/repainting that.

I absolutely agree with you Rebelpig. Ever since I put together my custom with mattel and Fenix' head, my anticipation for HT's reveal has gone down. After seeing the Indiana Jones sculpt, it went down some more. I've sculpted Reeve's face more times than I can count and it is not an easy face to do. Even Erick Sosa (Fenix head sculptor) and BobbyC has commented so and have done multiple revisions on their versions.

i like these mattel figs the way they are though I've really loved seeing the customs. to me it takes me back to what 12" figures looked like while ago when I was younger. I guess there's a bit of nostalgia for me but i think these are some great figures modded and unmodded

Sma thing here...

Now that I've made this, I just don't care whether they make a great one or when it comes out.

I'll get one, for sure, but I no longer feel the rush as whatever the result, I'm confident they can never match Sosa's sculpt...

So Rebelpig, what material did you use for your fortress base?

I didn't shorten the neck, I just drilled deeper into the head with a dremmel.

So Rebelpig, what material did you use for your fortress base?

The largest stage part is Modellers foam board 5mm. its easy to cut, light and strong enough to build structures like this. The 'crystals' at the back are the same, with layers of board on top to create more relief and shape. I added the other short stump crystals using the same method for the base and added relief to the edges of the base too.
When the basic structure was completed I used a self hardening 2 part epoxy clay 'milliput' to lay flat areas onto the front facing panels. I then impressed the 'striations' of the ice with a sharp flat edge.

Now for the 'Blue peter bit' (sorry US guys, google 'Blue peter make' or use Youtube. you'll soon see what I mean). I used 'Aluminium foil' two layers scruched up the flattened out but not enough to loose the texture. This was the glued and folded into and over the crystals.
I used the same teq on the floor parts with the foil more scrunched then flattened, I took it right to the edge and over slightly to give the effect of snow on top of the ice.

<a href="http://s1100.photobucket.com/albums/g402/rebelpig/?action=view&amp;current=Basedetails.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g402/rebelpig/Basedetails.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

It still didn't have that 'snowiness' it needed, so I painted a very thick coat of acrylic on the floor after the first base coat of white, I then sprinked dry sand on top.
Then the whole thing had another thick coat of white, then light ice blue worked in to bring out the detail. Then I dry brushed that whole thing with white to soften this and get that blue ice effect.

For the lights I used super bright white battery led's. the sort that aren't on a string but individual strands from a control box, there for bouquets. They work well as each light can be taken from the central box and implanted in the floor were you want it. The lights I used will give you good 12hrs before they fade.

<a href="http://s1100.photobucket.com/albums/g402/rebelpig/?action=view&amp;current=basedetail2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g402/rebelpig/basedetail2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Sorry about the crappy photo but it shows the light well, looks amazing in the dark. Here's some pics of the type of lights I used.

<a href="http://s1100.photobucket.com/albums/g402/rebelpig/?action=view&amp;current=LL-07W-new-colour-2Popup.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g402/rebelpig/LL-07W-new-colour-2Popup.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s1100.photobucket.com/albums/g402/rebelpig/?action=view&amp;current=LL-07W-new-colourPopup.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g402/rebelpig/LL-07W-new-colourPopup.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The figure stand base is secured inside the base of the unit. It has detachable pole, clear acrylic. So I replaced this with a longer 6mm wide acrlic rod that I could cut to a longer length, long enough to achieve a levitaing/fliying pose.

The stand was like this one. Similar to medicoms.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TC46-01-1-6-Action-Figures-Display-Stand-/130424259759?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e5de444a.

I may make smaller connecting versions for Luthor and Zod. I also had a mad thought to do the Crystal chamber.

<a href="http://s1100.photobucket.com/albums/g402/rebelpig/?action=view&amp;current=5414848_gal.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g402/rebelpig/5414848_gal.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

But that would be a big piece & the rest of the crystal console.

<a href="http://s1100.photobucket.com/albums/g402/rebelpig/?action=view&amp;current=CW-STM-Fortress-controls-010.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g402/rebelpig/CW-STM-Fortress-controls-010.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I have them all designed in tech drawings, I'd like some backlighting too. I may replace the standing crystals with frosted acrylic. I could then bed a light at the base of each to make them glow. I'ts just finding the time. LOL

Hope that helps 16k.

Wow Rebelpig, thanks a lot! :D

That's really helpful! I especially love your leds. I've never tried working with them so I'm not sure how to proceed, but that looks really awesome! :D

Thanks again so much for the tutorial! I don't know if I'll be able to make a stand as good as yours, but I'll try at least to achieve someting in between yours and Cinemaquette! :D

Thanks my friend! :D

rebelpig
02-20-2011, 08:05 AM
The led's are one of the easy bits, its finding the right sort of unit, the one I used has a central battery box with individual cables for each light. It makes them really easy to place anywhere you want.
No wiring or soldering, nothing.
The design for mine was 'ripped off' from the cinemaquette. Best base ever. I wanted my Superman to look like a 1/6 version of that.

ok so i worked out how remove the out fit without destroying it ,and guess what its a pretty nice built figure ,a little empty in the mid section and hips ,but a little foam padding sorted that out http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad83/chrisdodd1957/DSC06043.jpg http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad83/chrisdodd1957/DSC06042.jpg the good point that i can see is that the neck diameter is smaller and hard and seems a better match sizewise for the fenix sculpt ihe body seems to have just the right amount of mass and sleekness to match reeve build and the strange gappy shoulder joints dont even show through the mattel suit , which i allways thought was good but now think is exelent ,the only down side on the body is it seems not as articulated as some of the bodies some of you guys have used ,but overall im glad i tried it out:)

Origin of those boots...?

ni yes ther pretty nice ,i cant take credit for them though, that goes to a talented if not obsesed chris reeve fan called kris meadows ,i got the parts to make a chris superman back in 1996 i think it was at the superman thing in metropolis il ,the boots are made of strech lycra , and sewn like a sock ,but to be truthfull a little too sock like :) in fact kris used to picture his figures in snow or cotton wool to hide the feet ,i just added a iner sole to give it a more boot like shape, then glued a sole to the bottom and that was it ,ive tried with no luck to replicate them ,ive got a lady looking at them now with a view to copying them ,if it works out ill let you know

this pretty darn good especially for a first paint up!

the eyes look great except (and this is a personal preference) the white dot on them. I particularly don't like the white dot as to me, it makes it look more like something we'd see on older figures. I've repainted all the eyes on my sideshow figures b/c I truly dislike the white dot. I just let a coat of some high gloss simulate the glossy look of natural eyes rather than the white dot even though that is its purpose.

this is what I'm talking about:
http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/y366/gipetto0812/Custom%20Bruce%20Wayne/SAM_1389.jpg

but again it's a personal preference. what you've done is truly amazing work mate and you'll just get better the more you do

haha no worries buddy :1-1:

but since you're using photobucket I can help :)

if a pic you want to post here isn't in the right orientation, click on that picture, wait for the page to fully load, and move your mouse cursor to the picture.

a black bar should appear that says

File| Edit| Resize| Rotate| Share| Photo Products| Send to Phone| Zoom

move your mouse cursor over Rotate but DON'T CLICK IT! a drop down box will appear that says

Left
Right
Flip upside-down

that's when you click on which ever suits your needs

hope that helps buddy! :wave

This is my Superman customs/collection.
That's the Medicom Superman Returns with a TT narrow shoulder body. The middle Superman uses the same body with padded abdomen, Mattel suit, Fenix head and rubber boots. Clark Kent uses my own head sculpt. Last Superman uses my own sculpt with mattel suit and Comedian body.

I am re-sculpting my head sculpts to get it closer to Reeve's features.

Here are a set of Superman customs I have been working on. The head sculpts are from Spenser, along with Luthor's 70s suit. Superman uses the mattel suit with boots from Moe productions.

Lex looks good. I am hoping the mattel suit would look better on a regular TT body. Superman looks great and the head sculpt on Kent looks good, too. Are the glasses sculpted on? I am trying to find where to buy those type of glasses for my Kent figure. The suit on Kent figures seems a tad bulky, though. the lex suits hangs more naturally for my eyes. Great figures. I hope to have my own lineup soon.

The Lex Luthor suit is actually from Spenser Ledford, it is NOT the mattel suit. (He made the custom for me about 2 years ago.)

The Clark Kent suit is actually from a Frank Sinatra Ken doll. It also came with a 1/6 scale Fedora-which was the main reason I got it. The glasses are cut from metal - Spenser did those with the sculpt (similar to his Lt. Gordon head from Dark Knight.)

Here is my custom SUPERMAN EARTH ONE 1/6 Custom. It still needs a LOT of futzing, but was wondering if anyone knew of a better 1/6th hood to use? I am using a Hot toys Ezio hoodie turned inside out. I had to cut off the sleeves of the white shirt to better pose the figure. I plan to use fists instead of open hands to better match the picture. I love the WESKER HEAD!!!!! If I can't find a better hood, I plan to attach the hood to the jacket for a lower sitting fit

Modified Luthor with a new body. The new body allows me to futs the suit better. Sewed the lapel so it's closer to the movie look and doesn't keep losing shape. Really minor stuff but i think it works. Plus more range of movement for the elbows and knees.
Also, allowed me to mess around with the collar a bit more and better range of movement for the head. Beforeand AFter shots.

Thanks, guys. i think that almost any body would be better. I am using this 10 dollar 12 inch soldier figure i bought from Big Lots (a local store) the hand pegs fits perfectly without modification. The Luthor shoes comes off the feet and might fit in any regular foot. The important thing to get away from the Mattel base body was the wide shoulders. It stretched the suit so it wouldn't allow for any futzing. And the Neck connection is horrible on the mattel figure.

Smallville - Which costume are you doing? The black version or red leather? Black version should be easy to do, you can even use the joker trenchcoat and dye it black. The red leather version would require a lot of skill in sewing.

That is an impressive custom, BK! my suggestion is use magicsculpt or Aves epoxy for the hair strands. just do a small strip in the basic hair form. make it thin and attach it. let it dry and harden. It will serve as an armature for the next layer. Add another thin layer and sculpt in the hair strands.

OR...

Roll up some aluminum foil and put it against the fore head. you can now put some Aves or magicsculpt over the foil and sculpt in the hair. let it dry and harden and pull out the roll of aluminum foil. it should give you that free hanging hair look.

hope that makes sense and helps.

That's what i would do. if you're unsure about the firmness of your hand you can tape up the shape of the emblem paint it all white, let it dry and pencil in the outline of the "S" and paint the black in carefully. Actually, before painting it all white, try and see if you can paint the "S" in, if not go to plan "B"

Carbo is right... Royce! Love the way it looks.
My pics aren't the greatest... But this will be
One of the best Reeves I will ever own.

All this hype about hot toys.. Tell me guys, what can be so much better?
Arnie Kim doing the sculpt!!! Yes he is s great sculptor don't get me wrong, but there is alot of nice Reeves sculpts out there like fenix/sosa
And now erick doing another version.

As for our suit... Mine was probably better then your mego, Mattel versions. Sure hot toys probably has better tailor, but we'll have to wait and see. So whoever got a suit from me enjoy.
And post some pictures guys???

I'll be back when mine is complete.

Yeah, the Royce body does look great with your suit. But my custom will have an A.C.E. body from Les Walker. I've seen it already and it looks great too. I trust Les and his judgement about these things. Yeah, I don't know how much better Hot Toys will do than this latest custom of the Christopher Reeve Superman. I know Arnie Kim is a great sculptor, but why haven't we seen anything yet?

Yeah, Moe yours is way better than the original 12" Mego figure. I still have mine. We all know Mattel's suit is close, but not close enough. First off the blue is the wrong color.

I'll definitely post pictures of my completed Reeve Superman here soon after I get it. :wave

Thanks Kal, It is one of the best features of our suit.- No! what I meant is both Mego suit and Mattel's suit...
Mattel's suit is nice but wrong in color, more darker blue...Never really had the mego suit in my hands, but Mego was more toy like to me always.

The B/W suit was indeed chocolate brown and light grey, with a white belt and silver buckle. As mentioned in "Hollywoodland", the colors were chosen for contrast. I've been fortunate enough to see surviving examples of both B/W and color Reeves suits, which are somewhat rare as George had a habit of burning them after each season ended.I have to wonder what he would think if he could have seen the how the show and his performance are held today...PS

I really don't understand it. Is it asking what to produce in that time frame or what to eliminate from their production line? Provide me with a reliable translation because I saw this on the other superman thread and it seems like they don't know either and are just guessing. I think you know which one I would definitely vote for.

i don't think they will eliminate any of those license (probably Sucker Punch) this is just to vote who you want to get the next release, i think the time frame is to for the voting no for the release......... just hit Superman and press the gray button and youll get this 投票ありがとうございました。

i thought nothing happened either but the words where you click to submit change, but the whole page doesn't reload. if i remember correctly, it translate to something along the lines of "Choose one of the "vote" button please" before you vote and then "your vote has been counted" after the vote. but it does at first go look like nothing happens. I did find that it does work better if you use IE over Firefox or Safari

Nice stuff, Mike. Looks like we both have new things to play with tonight.

Thanks Gipetto!. I might add the thigh muscle to this yet. The ones I bought were the CK 2 in 1 head and original HT head. Even though I don't have them in hand yet, I may not like the Superman head, so I'll cast the Ck face put in a cast of the Superman head/hair, see how it looks and go from there.

Although, I am liking my setup right now.

sadly i found out that the post is kinda slow lately , after i talked to spencer, and thats when i found out that my clark head from him was sent out but after a week, it still did not arrive, seems that the customs are slow, very slow,

still dont worry, they are under way to you, just might take a tiny bit longer then expected, but it wont pass the 2 weeks mark...i hope.

amusedjester
05-22-2011, 09:27 AM
Sans - I can't believe it but i think it's the original body. Thee wrist articulation, the shoulder proportion and the thighs kinda points towards the mattel body.
If Mattel had had this face and paint job and pictures, this figure would have sold out like crazy. Beautiful job!

Fanger54 - no worries! I was just super excited to get the heads. As you can see i am preparing for their arrival by getting the body ready. After investigating further, i saw that a good repaint of the V! HT Superman will produce great results.

Can anyone define custom? OR Best Custom? Don't get me wrong! The figure is excellent because of the headsculpt...To me it is an EXCELLENT Bash! Only because the head was just popped on a Mattel figure...I don't think the suit was hand tailored.
That Paint, and head is by far the BEST! I have ever seen...

Most of the suit is Moe's great custom Superman outfit except for the belt, "S" shield on Superman's chest, and the cape. Those were done for me by Les Walker. Les also did the Superman - Christopher Reeve name tag on the figure stand. I also have a silver "S" for the figure stand done by Evilface.

I can't thank these people enough for helping me to make my dream figure come true! Thanks again Les Walker, Moe, and Evilface! :wave

Great custom Reeve, Mike! Les is the master.

Here's my first custom Superman. I put this guy together back in 2006 between the release of the Hot Toys Routh Superman and the 2-in-1 Superman.

The suit and boots are from the Mattel Ken doll Superman. My brother made the cape. The head is from a Mattel "Ultimate Powers" Superman with light-up eyes mounted on a BBI body. A friend painted and attached the head. It's not a great likeness but a stellar paint job.

Somewhere between Allyn and George Reeves.

Please post some more pictures of this figure here. Some close-ups of the painted head sculpt would be great to see!

I bought this from this seller from e-bay http://stores.ebay.com/onesixthscalefiguretoysworld. This guy is reliable with a high rating.

These heads usually range from 32.00 shipping included. Look around with terms headplay welling and there are some for 28.00 with free shipping.
If you're not familiar with Headplay products, these sculpts are fully painted and the paint quality is comparable to HT and they are cheap.
Here is the thread for his products and releases.

Thanks for the close ups and the information! I have my "ultimate" Superman. A Christopher Reeve Superman with Moe's great custom suit, and Les Walker's incredible painted head sculpt. I love it! :) It looks like you got Moe's suit too. Whose Reeve head sculpt do you have? I've seen it here before, but I forgot who sculpted it.

I'll check out the Headplay Tom Welling sculpt on eBay. :wave

I think the new TT muscular body is the same as the Royce body. I know it's the same one they used for the Wolverine/comedian body. I am using the Comedian body on my Custom reeve, check it out on the last page. If it is you will end up saving just waiting for the muscular body to come out.

Here's a link comparing the bodies:

Like amustedjester said. The TT Muscular body is the carded version of the Royce body. If you wait and get that one you'll be good to go. You can pick it up at most any online vendor of HT, and it should be available with the next couple months.

Here is my TW Superman. I used a TTA body with some cotton stuffed in the shoulders and chest. Still have to futz that a bit. Suit is a MEDICOM suit and boots are Hot Toys. I had the suit on a BILLY SOLE Muscular body and it looked lots better than this, but wasn't comfortable cutting the neck off the sculpt to fit the body, so switched to the TTA.

OK guys... Looks like the Dastan body is a no go... Seems Sosa sculpt isn't gonna work on this neck... At least I'm not willing 2 dremel it that much and take a chance on messing it up. It would be my 1st... Plus the upper body would have 2 be repainted to match head skin tone and its rubber so not sure how that would go. Any suggestions out there? Moe thinks I should use the rare ace body.

**16k**
10-09-2011, 06:42 AM
Dastan is same as Royce, right?

So it should work just fine. No need for an ace body! Just dremmel in circular motions until you get some kind of bowl. Then drill the peg hole.

Try it very often until the head sits about half way into the Adam's apple, otherwise you'll get a giraffe neck. Not very difficult to do, believe me, I've done it twice!

jam2315
10-09-2011, 07:52 AM
Yea (about the same) but if I did try it & actually got it id have 2 find a way 2 paint the rubber upper body 2 match the skin tone of the head. Dastan body is way darker

**16k**
10-09-2011, 08:08 AM
Okay, I haven't read your previous posts so maybe you explain why you can't, but why don't you do the contrary? When I made mine, I just painted the sculpt the color of the neck. You just have to add a smidge of black in your flesh mix and there you go! :D

That rare ACE body is the same body Les Walker used to make my Superman for me. Plus he added extra muscles to the thighs, and a special "one time" neck/shoulder area. I love it! It really captures Reeve's build to me. Good luck finding the ACE body. I haven't really seen any online in a long time.

the head and body are a cheap combo in terms of price and thats why i got them both from ada chan , thats the seller that you are talking about, anyway the head is the best and only one out there of smallville's lex and its perfect .
I have no idea if the painted version is good in terms of paint job since i got the unpainted version , you know since its an easy paint, but overall if you want a great smallville lex , go for it

forgot to mention that the head will work on any body with a proper neck piece since its pre drilled to fit one.
the body is meh at best but for a simple display it works, but then again i am on the verge of getting a new body for lex.
the big issue with the body is the lack of articulation and the plastic is cheap

That would be worth seeing. I have a feeling that the body will be a bit big for the suit though, as the Supes body is a larger and taller muscle body.

You might be right but I'm hopeful. The torso seems a bit longer and of course the arms and legs a bit longer as well as wider but I'm fairly confident the fabric will stretch to accommodate. The only concern I really have is how it will fit around the neck. I guess we will see. I'll post some pics when it's done.

Fair enough, it for this use entirely I only want the head, body, hands, and boots also all the necessary pegs from him as I prefer the mattel suit based on the pics I have seen of this one but getting those parts together could prove more pricey then just buying the figure whole and selling the suit.

As you can see he is a bit taller than Thor who stands at just under 12 1/2 inches. This fig now stands at about 12 5/8 inches which would be about 6'4" tall. Not bad. The neck is a little long but I can fix that. The suit fits pretty good I'd say. Except for the line just under the rib cage. Not sure how to handle that one.

This is the Superman returns 2 in 1 body compared to the CR body. Deltoids and biceps are much bigger as well as chest and neck. Torso as a whole is taller too. The thighs are way wider and slightly longer. Also the shins are longer which makes this a great body for taller stronger figures. I have another CR body coming so I can try putting Thor on it.

Will try to keep a look-out for the T-800 body, although it's prohibitively expensive... maybe one of those new muscle bodies that Kaustik Plastik is putting out might work.
What boots did you use? Those look like SR boots if I'm not mistaken.
