When I saw the very first pic, I was like: "hmm... "
But in all the other pics, the likeness looks pretty damn good.

I like the staff as well.

Not sure if I will pick this up, but I'm definitely interested.

Passing resemblance to Hopkins. About as spot on as their Kevin Flynn which only bears a slight resemblance to Jeff Bridges from certain angles. Nice looking figure but considering a baddie hasn't been done yet and that could either be Loki or The Destroyer I will probably pass

Ok so I was looking at these pics again just now, and is it me, or does the sculpt in the first and final pic, without the helmet look slightly different than the sculpt in all the other pics... Seriously, it looks like a slightly earlier version which just needed some last tweaks, while all the other pics are from the final version... :dunno

That being said, I like it more with every time I look at these pics. Big chance that HT is gonna get even more of my money :lol

I think the figure looks pretty good with the helmet on. Dinolast was saying that the hair looks odd when shot at certain angles.

In some pictures it looks like the hair is floating. Thor is a definite buy for me, but I'm not too sure about Odin.

I think it's a great sculpt of Anthony Hopkins and that helmet looks pretty cool, but depending on when this is released and the hair floating issue, I may not get this one.

I think that's a bit harsh. I haven't been following this movie at all, so I didn't even know Hopkins had been cast, but it was pretty obvious to me that was him as soon as I saw these pics. I'm impressed by the likeness. Like others here, however, I'm not really loving the costume designs, and I'm not really much of a Thor fan.

Who knows? Maybe the movie will change my mind, but I'm passing on these for now.

It's a shame the first Hopkins figure we'll get is from this movie.

No doubt. Hannibal Lector would be damn cool - perhaps his most iconic role?

I'm pretty surprised HT's is making this. Not that it's a bad thing but I would have guessed the line would have been Thor and Loki and that's it.

I think it looks pretty good! Yeah, that first pic was a little odd, but the rest for the most part are excellent. Isn't there a scene in the trailer that has Odin without the eyepatch? I would have expected it to be an option on the figure.

And I'm okay with the costumes. I know there's a better Thor costume in the comics that would have translated perfectly. But I think these are fine--a nice Kirby tribute.

Anthony Hopkins' forehead is much wider at the top, giving Hopkins a much rounder face than the figure

The more I look at the costume designs for this film the more I see Branagh's theatre influence. They all seem to have an operatic quality to them. They could just keep the sets and perform Wagner's Ring Cycle on them. Valhalla would be ready to go.

They all have big bold strokes.

With this announcement it certainly is tempting to start collecting this line!
I'm wondering if and what we'll see more from this line.

Seeing that they already showed two figures without the film even being out makes me wonder if they got some big plans for this line...
I'm hoping we'll at least see a Loki and perhaps the Destroyer. Although a Destroyer should be pretty damn big judging from the trailer footage where Thor stands in front of it.

It looks like they sculpted the head and face with the helmet in mind which is why it looks so much better with it on. If they would have done Hopkins true and then put the helmet over it would have looked disproportion and large.

When I saw the very first pic, I was like: "hmm... "
But in all the other pics, the likeness looks pretty damn good. I like the staff as well.

Not sure if I will pick this up, but I'm definitely interested.

You said it for me, thanks

Just because the figure is a nice well made figure does not mean everyone must get it:dunno... some people may not care for certain characters,i don't really care for Odin, seeing the film might change my mind but i'm not counting on it.

Thats true. I've always thought though someone just saying easy pass is kind of a dumb and pointless post. I mean honestly who cares if you're passing unless you want to be part of the discussion and talk about why. Thats always interesting to read.

Wow, that's an amazing sculpt, I only just found out about this from the Thor thread. Definitely buying, I kinda wish he came with his throne but I guess HT will want to keep the price down on this guy. I wonder if HT have got any other characters planned from the film?

curious... what makes this an 'easy' pass? The likeness is very good imho and the costume is movie accurate.

Yeah, I guess I should have specified. I simply do not like the look of the character in the movie. I am rather underwhelmed by the costumes so when I see this figure I can't say I have a desire to own it. Same goes for Thor.

:exactly: He has a problem with the character/design like i said is the case with many collectors, we would all be in real trouble if we all just bought figures because they were cool or well made.

Thats fine and that type of post makes more sense to make than "easy pass". I buy what I think are cool, well made, and hit my interest if others feel the same thats great and if not thats fine.

My guess is we'll get all/most of the Thor line before seeing any from Cap. We haven't even gotten a full Cap trailer yet and we already have 2 for Thor. So the figures support that. 2 - 0 :lol

Darkseed
03-09-2011, 06:29 PM
I still hold the same opinion on the figure. Several factors to consider before I pre-order. 1) Price. Odin rolls in at the same cost as Thor, I will pass. IMO a second tier character not worth $180. 2) Loki or Destroyer. Thor needs his arch nemesis (Loki) more than papa. 3) I may consider later down the line (especially if no Loki and Destroyer). I don't foresee Odin selling out quickly.

I have mentioned this about Thor's cape, but look how nice Odin's cape drapes compare to Thor's. Thor's seem like two capes stitched together and it makes it puffier. Odin's cape looks like a custom cape you would buy afterwards.

:exactly:

Odin's cape looks well better imho.

It's also the only line they had before the movie premiered. Wolvie, Spidey, Blade and Ghost Rider all came long after the films had been released so we've yet to see how much they'll really give us. Blade got 2 figures, and that speaks volumes.

I feel sick they we still haven't gotten Frost or Blade from Blade 1.

This pic is pure awesomeness!!! And Thor is definitely taller!! What do you guys think, as tall as T-800 perhaps? That was one of my concerns.

Looks like Thor is using the Berserker body while Odin is using the P1 body. ;)

Those who follow the Predators line by Hot Toys will remember :lecture this fiasco. :lol

Once Thor and Odin are released don't be surprised if the difference in height is not as obvious.

Thankfully Thor is taller. I looked up Chris Hemsworth and he's 6'3 as opposed to Anthony Hopkins who is 5'7.

That is a great looking figure. The HT Thor was a must-have, but I can't commit to purchasing Odin until I see the movie. I'm surprised to see a second Thor figure before any Sucker Punch or Captain America but hey at this rate maybe we'll get a Natalie Portman figure from Hot Toys. Then they'd get more of my cash for certain!

These two figures are amazing. Even though we have come to expect this kind of detail from Hot Toys.

But I can easily pass on them despite my love for Thor for two reasons.

This guy that is playing Thor seems a little too...pretty...to me. And as these are Hot Toys figures...I have no doubt that the joints will all break on them as I am removing them from the package.

Hot Toys figures are pretty durable. So I wouldn't worry about breaking them unless you are really rough with it.

I hot they make Odin's eye patch removable.

Don't know if they're using the T800 but took these quick shots, but remember the T800 doesn't have his long foot pegs or boots on.

My experience with Hot Toys is somewhat different than that.

Jesus what are you doing to them? I've never had a HT figure break. Medicom yet but nothing from HT.

I don't know what to tell you. I do not abuse the figures. The only Sideshow figure that broke like that was My Obi-Clone who had an ankle break when he fell off of a shelf (oh, yeah...didn't Hot Toys make that mannequin?:)), I have had issues with the plastic on the Medicom mannequins break on my Boba Fett and My Shadow Stormtrooper. I have recieved Hot Toys Aliens that I bought new that had broken joints out of the box. My Power Loader had more than half the pegs break off just from the weight of the hoses as it was displayed stationary. The rubber on one of my aliens and one of my Predaliens rotted.

For whatever reason...I have simply had too much bad luck with Hot Toys to buy any more of their figures at the prices they charge. That is not to say they are any better or worse than Sideshow or Medicom, just not for me. If they didn't have the issues...they would be worth the money/effort. And if they were as easy to get replaced as Sideshow, they would also be worth it.

But for my own priorities...they are just not for me.

But they do look freakin' awesome!

Most of the figures you mention are older hot toys. Just like any product manufacturer Hot TOys has learned from their mistake as much as they have from their successes. The new PVC muscle bodies are remarkably tough. The regular plastic in their TTs has also steadily improved. Their prices have gone up, sure... but I don't mind so long as the product improves conmensurately.

Yeah, as of the proto pics we have available it looks like it is sitting high on his head. Not sure what it is like in the movie though.
Either way, it doesn't look right.

Crazy thing is I bought Thor because of this figure. The face to me is so brilliant. Im not blown away by the Thor figure mainly because of the hair and helmet. Neither I feel look as good as the old man, but I hoping things will work themselves out before release.

For Odin, a little hot and cold and Ill have those grey locks sitting on his shoulders correctly.

Actually, that's just the design of the film IMO. Odin's cape hangs from his shoulders, while Thor's curves over his shoulders and actually has a more bulky look.

It just says that Natalie Portman's character wears casual clothes in "Thor", but collectors really only want the headsculpt anyway. Then it says how long will collectors have to wait before their dream to come true.

So there's not much real information there, just some speculation by the journalist.
