So the original Lucas / Sideshow agreement was for three years and we are almost finished with year two; has this been extended or will it still expire next year? And yes, I know that Sideshow peeps have always said "many years" every time they have been asked in chat about how long they would be doing Star Wars.

Here is the original announcement...

Prolly for as long as Hasblow has the original rights which is 2012 or something.

I got a feeling it will go as long as everyone is happy and making money.:D

Can you imagine the fan backlash if SS stoped before ever making a 12"/PF Fett or 12" Vader??

I would think it would be in the best interest of LFL and SSC to renew considering the success of the line. So I wouldn't worry about it expiring.

There's no way we'd let an agreement go without getting MY favorite character to market-

Yeah, I would think a renewal would be a big no-brainer.

While the various SW lines keep selling well I shouldn't think Lucasfilm will have any problems with working out a new deal with Sideshow so I'm not concerned about the current deal only having a year left.

If they only have a year left and can't come to an agreement I guess that means we could have about 30 figures next year. Wonder if its just announced / pre-ordered figures in the time or do they actaully have to be delivered? There won't be any problem getting that agreement extended.

Well, I think with what I've read/heard Weta was ready to move on so I don't think they wanted to stay on LOTR any longer. They wanted to move on and do different things. I think SS would love to keep working on SW for as long as they can.

Yeah, Uncle George really knows how to milk a cash cow.
No major worries about SS losing the liscence.

You mean Howard Roffman.

His checks are signed by Lucas. And after all it was Georgie boy who had the foresight in the seventies to keep hold of the merchandising and franchise rights in leiu of a standard writer/director fee.

Roffman's talents are just another testament that Lucas knows to put the right people in place to do his bidding... Much like Palpatine sending Anakin off to Mustafar... hmmm.
