I saw a Patient Zero on Ebay for $150.00, I think the price is all right but the seller does not offer insurance, so my question is: Would you buy from eBay without shipping insurance???

I wouldn't on anything over 50 bucks.

Have you asked them about including insurance?
I generally always add insurance when I buy anything from ebay, unless it's something cheap.

I find most insurance pretty much useless, unless your package goes missing or it's obvious that the shipper drove a forklift through it your claim will be denied. The only reason it's even offered is because it makes the shippers about a 90% profit margin.
IMPORTANT:
It's the shippers responsibilty to get the item to your door in the stated condition. If it doesn't arrive for whatever reason then you get your money back. Just file a claim with Ebay/Paypal and the shipper will have no proof of delivery and your money will be refunded.

And a lot of eBayers are using this philosophy right now as a buying scam. Which is excatly why I require adult signature on all my deliveries now.
BTW, over the past several years, I have had to file various insurance claims through the shipper both as buyer and as seller. Although a couple took quite some time, I have yet to have one denied.
Now back to the question at hand. No I woudn't buy anything from eBay without insurance. Have you emailed the seller about the possiblity of insurance? I have found auctions in the past the didn't list insurance as an option, so I emailed before placing a bid and the seller agreed to offer insurance.

Same here--even if it isn't listed, contact them and ask if the package can be insured. If they refuse, I wouldn't buy from them.
Agreed,
Request Insurance, if the seller refuses to offer it, don't buy it.
You have other options
paypal claim
cc claim

I agree on the insurance part. Mostly insurances are only for when a package gets lost. Lots of ppl don't realize this. They think that you can claim everything on "insurance" , if there 's a broken leg on a statue for example. This is not true. You 're most probably on your own here. Or at the mercy of your seller.
I do not agree entirely on the "IMPORTANT" part. If you want that 100% hard guarrantees then you shouldn't buy on ebay but more from an online store or such. What I mean is , when you buy a cheap statue or whatever from a "regular person " on ebay (e.g. not a professional store-owner), you cannot expect him/her to carry all of the risks from selling. Buying is a risk as wel. There is no obligation on your part for buying from him/her. Just IMHO ofcourse.
I also very much agree with your avatar, so 2 out of 3 is not bad. :D

Well I didn't say it was my philosophy either, as an occasional seller on Ebay I am fully aware of all the scams out there. The seller shouldn't have to carry all the risks, but the question was about Ebay and that is thier stance on the issue.
BTW, my avatar is point 2 and 3 out of 4.......

As long as their feedback is good I wouldn't worry so much. I've never had a problem. I never get insurance. (famous last words, right?)

Same goes for me. As long as the seller has a sufficient amount of positive feedback, I generally don't worry about insurance.

I usually don't worry about insurance, as I have never been burned by a seller. Now buyers.... I don't wanna get started. :monkey4
But usually an inexperienced seller will not list his item as having insurance available, but I'm sure if you ask... he'll ablige. Hey, it's only a couple of bucks and it doesn't come out of his pocket....why the Hell not?
Ask.....I bet he'll say yes.

Insurance isn't to protect you from the seller. It's to protect you from the shipper. Most eBay stuff ships Priority Mail.
I've had to use the insurance only once about six years ago, when a MIMB 1:6 figure arrived with crushed box because the outer box was crushed in transit. Even though the figure itself was okay, the PO honored my claim. It took between six and eight weeks as I recall.
