So what’s the news concerning this new 12” Matrix figure that has been released?

Well, it is being produced by a company, that I had not heard of until last week, called ACI Toys out of Hong Kong.

Apparently ACI Toys have been wholesaling and retailing high quality toys from overseas for years. Recently they have moved from the retail end into design and manufacturing of products of their own this year.

One of those new areas happens to include the production of some exceptionally well done 12” figure heads that are compatible with either Dragon or DiD 12” bodies.

To give you an idea of what these heads look like I would head over to E-Bay and poke around. It will take you about two minutes to locate them. As you will see ACI is producing eight head sculpts for this introductory set. A majority of the head-sculpts 3-4of the eight are of various actors from the film “Saving Private Ryan.” One of the head-sculpts looks to be the actor Damian Lewis who played Maj. Richard Winters in “Band Of Brothers.” One I will get to further down in this post and the other three I could not place.

The first wave of figure heads are being released as a set and are called the “ACI Modern Heroes Vol.1 - 1/6 scale action figure heads collection.” This set is noted to be limited to only 100 boxes. The box itself contains a “secret accessory set” that was produced as an exclusive for the recent Hong Kong Toys Festival. A few of these sets are now making their way stateside.

The “secret accessory set” includes the following items;

1 x white long sleeve button up shirt (ACI)
1 x pair black dress pants (ACI)
1 x black suit jacket (ACI)
1 x pair black lace up leather dress shoes (ACI)
1 x pair black socks (ACI )
1 x leather belt (ACI)
1 x black tie (ACI )
1 x pair black sunglasses (ACI)

So.…you put all the parts together on a Dragon body (that is not included), along with head-sculpt #4 (Hugo Weaving) and you have yourself an incredibly cool looking 12” Agent Smith figure!

I can’t tell you how glad I am to finally see a decent looking Agent Smith head-sculpt after the character has been passed over as a 12” figure for so long.

If you’re wondering why a 12” body is not included in the set I can tell you that it is probably one of two things. First, ACI may not have any intention of producing a 12" figure body. Secondly, it may be a well thought out move to get around those pesky copyright laws.

Again, keep in mind that according to the ACI website the exclusive outfit is limited to only 100 pieces/boxes.

UPDATE

More interesting news. I just got of the phone with one of my suppliers and I learned an interesting detail that some of you might like to know.

Out of the case of 96 heads that he ordered from ACI he received 8 boxes of 12 heads each. Now, according to what he told me, out of those 8 boxes he was only able to come up with two sets of the exclusive “Agent Smith” accessory outfits. So, each box does not contain the limited edition accessory pack. Interesting!

We did discuss the head sculpts in the box and at this time, with the exception of the Hugo Weaving sculpt, it looks like the sculpts are taken directly from actors either in the movie “Saving Private Ryan” or the HBO series “Band of Brothers.”

I just checked them out on ebay and they look pretty good. The head sculpts rival that of sideshow. The prices on them are darn cheap, so if anyone is interested I'd start buying them now.

I was only able to see 3 of them up currently, but I'm not that impressed with them. The likeness to Agent Smith is passable at best. It could of course be the effects of lighting, etc... but based on the pictures it could be a lot better.

Interesting, but I'll stick with SSC and Andy, Oluf and Mat.

The only one I thought was pretty good was Vin, and not that it was a great likeness, it just look like a cool action hero figure head.

I thought that the Damian Lewis (Winters from Band Of Brothers) and Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan) headsculpts was dead on. They just look like they could use a bit of a repaint.

Looking at these, I don't really think they are much to scream about. The Hugo Weaving headsculpt is horrid, the Vin Diesel only bears a slight resemblance and the Tom Hanks nose is all wrong. Its too bulbus...other than that its a nice likeness for TH...I'll pass but I hope another 12" company picks up the Matrix line and Saving Private Ryan...

I only looked at the Hugo Weaving sculpt. I thought it looked decent but pretty simplistic.

Yeah, I don't see these sticking around very long at all. Most of your military type 1/6th scale collectors are quickly snatching up the Hanks, Lewis, Peper, and Vin heads for obvious reasons.

Thanks.

My heads and suit sets arrived yesterday via UPS. I assembled the Agent Smith figures last night, I was able to track down three of the exclusive suit sets, and let me tell you the pictures on the net do not do these head-sculpts the justice that they deserve.

The Agent Smith head-sculpt is spot on and it looks great when posed next to my Hot Toys Neo and Trinity figures.

I picked up three of them as I want to pose them in sort of that cloned group way. With the flexible Dragon hands I was able to come up with some interesting poses as well for them. They look great in mass!

I will post some pictures this weekend. We are finally all moved into our new home and the unpacking is all done so I can start getting some pictures up of some of the items I have picked up.

I'd love to see your pix of Agent Smith.

I've been planning to build one myself. I have everything and was planning to lob the head of my GG bust. Maybe I don't have to.

Wor-Gar, I've seen the bust. Save your bust from a bloody decapitation and shell out $7.00 for this head sculpt, it is well worth it, and the shades just make the overall look and the figure.

I will do my best to get the photos up on both this site and my site this weekend.

The great thing about the Agent Smith head is that if you are interested, he would also mike a great custom Christopher Plummer as "Captain Von Trapp" from The Sound of Music...

Ok, giving it the benefit of the doubt, as I haven't seen it stripped and repainted, I don't see Weaving OR Plummer in there.

Again, I disagree. Sure it isn't dead on. But once you put the shades on the sculpt it looks great!

Enough with this defense of the head-sculpt. I assembled three 12" Agent Smith figures and they look great in mass alongside my Hot Toys Neo and Trinity figures.

Your kidding right? That head looks more like Homer Simpson than Agent Smith.

I am a big Matrix fan and I would not buy this thing. I am sorry and I know opinions are like *******s, but this sculpt is terrible IMO. It looks nothing like Smith.
