I figure we'll get the coiled whip, as well (as we did with the Sideshow one).
I think that's too sideshow esque- Hot Toys is going to think beyond that taking out of that toy realm that Sideshow simply could not get out of themselves.
There's no need for a coiled whip when you have a real bullwhip and can coil it yourself. Mike figured it out, HT is sure to do something similar, and if they can't they are not worthy of being the kings of the mountain.

If they could do that, then that would be great. I had no idea a whip could be coiled and look decent at that scale

-One PERS head with the top "scalp" removable, to have hatted and unhatted heads.
Excellent idea, but I would worry about the hairline looking weird. Seems like it would be impossible to make the gap unnoticeable.
I still predict one PERS head with magnetized hat/head to reveal PERS. And a separate sculpted hatless head.

Yeah, for hairline reasons I reckon swap-out hair won't be possible. Not sure about the additional head being hatless, it sounds like it would be too similar to Sideshow's offering, and I reckon HT will try to do something to make it fairly distinctive. Maybe include the ark? I'd be a bit surprised if anything more than Indy comes out, it kinda fits HT's model of only releasing one or two characters from a line that would be certain to sell. If there was another I'd say it would be Mola Ram.

In all honesty, I'm not too confident on them doing it either, but I just don't think we'll get two PERS heads.
What I really think will happen is just one PERS head and that's it. There's not that many moments in Raiders where Indy is hatless, apart from the Professor and German outfits. Plus breaking the head at the hat-line allows you to put a Map Room turban on.

Id like to know how this affects the line, wether its a one off hot toys anniversary celebration piece and then sideshow carry on with tod indy n short round like they mentioned were in production a few months ago, or hot toys take over the line now. Maybe this is a hollywood style reboot! Lol. Exciting possibilties! But keep trevor on board, his work has been top notch

the best news all year ( appart from the change out hand on the TOD premium format ) . guessing the price will be about $200
It's actually kind of disappointing this isn't a DX ToD.
Sideshow have already done Raiders Indy and they did announce they were working on ToD with Hot Toys.
They can still have iconic Indy - since he is in full costume for a large % of the movie anyway, and then have the ToD DX bits - 2nd battle damaged head, torn up shirt and pants and machete.
Have it come with a mine cart or a piece of bridge as the base.
That would rule.

I hadn't seen Indy until the hoopla of Crystal Skull hitting theaters. I had horrible misconceptions about what sorts of movies they were and I'm really glad I gave in and checked them out, they're some of my favorite movies. I had thought they were more serious movies taking place in 30s and had no idea how much humor and fun there was too them. Fortunately, I saw them in time to not miss out on the collectibles offering, I'm really happy to have a 1/6 Indy figure, and not the opportunity to end up with an even better one.

I learned something new today as well... I would have called Raiders an "Action movie".. but alas I am wrong... from wikipedia :
Adventure films are a genre of film. Adventure Films are exciting stories, with new experiences or exotic locales. Adventure films are very similar to the action film genre, in that they are designed to provide an action-filled, energetic experience for the film viewer. Rather than the predominant emphasis on violence and fighting that is found in action films, however, the viewer of adventure films can live vicariously through the travels, conquests, explorations, creation of empires, struggles and situations that confront the main characters, actual historical figures or protagonists.

I would call Indy adventure and not Action simply because I tend to think of Action films as lacking in story substance and primarily focused on high levels of testosterone, Indy's got violence and action but there's actually a story you can get into too. I think the Indy films wouldn't be as good as they are if they were just testosterone films.

My brother watched them when we were kids and I'd occassionaly run in the room and check them out, but I guess I jumped in at all the wrong times, I managed to catch parts that made them look serious and unappealing and those quick snips were enough to imprint on me a lack of desire to ever watch them. When KOTCS hype started and the Sideshow figures and all, plus the KOTCS trailers, I got the urge to see what they were about, I was surprised at how they were so much about fun and not the serious type films I thought they were.

I'm not saying adults can't enjoy them, but they were inspired by old adventure serials that targeted kids, and they themselves targeted kids. That's just what they are. I still love those films, but it doesn't change what they are. Same with Star Wars (well, the original films anyway. I can't speak to the draw of the prequels or who George was trying to target with those, apart from those nostalgic for the older films).

Yup, Star Wars and Indy are made to have appeal to all generations, more targetted at youth, but not so much that they hold no appeal for adults, and there's nothing wrong with adults liking childish stuff, I mean, we're all in a thread talking about buying a toy after all.

More than usual, I have a feeling we could see more than half a dozen new figures debut in this event. We're already at 2 with Superman and Indy. It's possible a large ammount of HT's Q1/Q2 release will be unveiled in this event.
The onyl downside is, if they unveil a lot at htis show, if they can't all be produced in the standard time frame, the wait for some could be longer than we're used to.
I'm glad to at least have an Indy already, while this will offer improvements, if my collection was without an Indy at all, the wait would feel longer.

Only more than usual because its basically a HT Comic-Con. Other than that just another day. I guess for me besides Supes and Indy there's gonna have to be something else there. Part of the reason why I dont want to watch it is because then I will want a figure and will source the best of the best parts finding the highest quality clothes and head sculpts and paint aps by the most talented customizers. Then i will add my own obsessive touches for accuracy, spend a bloody fortune, unveil it to he world proud as punch and watch Hot toys announce the official version 1 week and 4 days after ;) lol!
So damn true!!!! This and me purchasing that Hot toys figure, with a DX version of the same figure being announced shortly after.

I've historically always been a bigger star wars fan than an Indy fan but in fact I'm more excited about a HT Indy than any Star Wars character. The prospect of HT Star Wars is actually daunting me too much whereas with Indy I can say with more confidence that there really is only so many I'll want or need. He'll be my first representation of Indy ever in my collection.

I think I misunderstood your post, Josh. Yes, Hot Toys will give you more interest in a certain franchise, for sure. Sideshow Indy was one of my first 1/6 scale figures, and I like the character and films a lot, but I'm not a big enough fan to buy or pay attention to any Indy-related collectible out there. Similarly, I love the Star Wars films, but I'm not interested in the background characters and troops so much that Sideshow seems to be focusing on nowadays, so I've stayed out of those threads. Hot Toys means 1/6 scale excellence, and personally, that's gonna get my attention if they do a license I'm remotely interested in.

So, you've noticed that too? I thought I was the only one.
Why wouldn't people be? Hot Toys, in a lot of people opinions, does the best 1/6 movie figures out there. Look no further then Platoon. I have the 3 main figures from SST and was happy with them. Now after seeing how HT did with Chris I'm not so happy with them anymore. Expect to receive my HT Chris soon, have Barnes on pre-order and will get Elias. HT is just that much better. I do think Soldier Stories military figs are comparable though.
ETA I may have misunderstood post. Still though, I imagine some people may pic up a figure that HT is doing because they know HT will do the figure justice.

I can post the image later but basically you trim of some of the Sideshow wrist peg at the part the goes in the forearm and then you can pop it into a normal TT. I've yet to try or hear of anyone trying to use this with a Wolverine type body so I don't know if it still works, if so, great.
We may not even need Sideshow's hands but with all the ones they gave us and the number HT'll likely make, if there's differences it'll be nice to have maximum options.

Woah haven't been in the Indy thread in a while and then I see this ! Couldn't be happier. Been waiting for a good Indy and Star Wars human figures for a while. I can deal with Sideshow's non-human figures like Vader, Maul, Troopers, etc but think the human ones are ugly and the likeness and paint are subpar. If HT does Star Wars though, I think it'll be the droids. I had a feeling a while back it would come to this since I don't think SS has ever done lights in their 1/6th have they ?

DX Indy's for certain.
Of the unannounced things that could show up at this thing, I'm hoping they have:
-New Captain Jack Sparrow
-New Rambo
-T2 BD T-800
-T1 Biker/BD T-800
-X-Suit Wolverine
-Keaton Batman
A fair mix of likely and long shots, but given that this isn't just new product unveiling but a celebration, I'm hoping for some of the unlikelies to have a good shot.
I'm thinking something new from T1 or T2 is very likely, being that T1 was the first MMS license, it would be fitting to show off an updated Biker figure to show their evolution as a company from first to second. That's also why I'm hoping for a new Rambo, that was also one of their earliest MMS releases, pretty sure first on that muscle body, and again, it'd be a good demonstration of their evolution as a company, and that Stallone poll from a short while ago.

Probably wrong on a lot of that, but those are pretty much the last few figures HT could offer that I'd be really excited about, and because of the things I've mentioned, I feel like there's a shot for all of that. POTC4 and the giveaway favor seeing a new Jack, plus he'd be a great figure to start the new POTC line with to build interest in the figures they'll announce leading up to theatrical release. The stuff I mentioned about Terminator and Rambo gives those a shot. Wolverine's hopeful because of HT continuing to roll out the Marvel franchises they announced in 2009, we've got Spidey and Blade, X-Men was the other specified series. Keaton Batman is just hopeful because of DC Direct doing products based on him this year, and since Reeves Supes is being done by DCD first and now HT, would be awesome if the same pattern followed for Batman.

Well we already know POTC is a license, but whether there's a figure ready to show off at this show is a question mark. Since Captain Sparrow's hardly changed from his previous appearance, he's a good one to start with and could be started ahead of time, could have been in the works since summer or even later.

I really love seeing HT bringing us 70's/80's icons after the other,2010 was a good year, but 2011 will be crazy with Superman,Indy,Bruce Lee and im sure there will be more.I can hope we will finally see a John McClane and Jack Nicholson.
Blade Runner would be nice too.

John McClaine is probably the most recognizable character in film, worthy of being made into a figure, that has not had and offical figure made of it. We've got Rocky, we've got Rambo, we have the Terminator, Indy, Jack Sparrow, Bruce Lee, McClaine is a big void that needs to finally be filled.

Depends, sounds like an SDCC type format, SDCC has special access for the first night but often we get photos out of it. I'd say it's a matter of whether they allow cameras of any kind or not.

I have a feeling we'll see John McClane from Hot Toys eventually. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but that license is too HOT for Hot Toys not to get. This is why I have largely ignored the Die Hard custom figures, haven't bought any and have mostly stayed away from temptation in the threads.

Hasn't HT stated that they only take on characters with interesting costume designs (when asked about inception)? Not saying that I don't find McClane's costume (or lack thereof) interesting, but not sure if Hot Toys would.

I think it was more they needed an iconic, recognizable character and look if they didn't have something that looked intrinsically interesting. Willis as McClane is that, IMO. You know the character based on the look alone, even though he isn't colorful or weird looking. Their example of DiCaprio is that him in a suit could be 15 or 20 different characters.
On the other hand, you know exactly who Don Corleone is even though he is just a guy in a suit.

It wasn't that they only do visually interesting costume designs, it was that Inception's characters weren't that visually interesting. Leo in a suit is not that cool. Same reason why Two-Face is far and away the lamest of their TDK figures.

The comment was more or less about doing characters who aren't really uniquely defined. There comment was that Leo looks very similar from film to film in his more popular roles of late and that a figure from any one film wouldn't overly stand out as being that unique character.
McClane from Die Hard 1-3 is pretty unique from Willis' other roles, Die Hard 4 is a bit iffy, it's just him bald in some pretty common clothes.

I don't see how Two Face has anything to do with the issue. You aren't gonna confuse him with another film character. And I personally think it is a great looking figure, and is quite visually interesting. Certainly has a better headsculpt than V1 Joker, and doesn't have various flaws found with PERS heads and leaky/beer belly abs that the other figures did. In that sense, I don't think he's the lamest of the DK figures, either.

I have always thought that the Two-face head sculpt is smaller than the rest.
