The hat looks pretty accurate to me
http://www.indianajones5trailer.com/indiana_jones_and_the_raiders_of_the_lost_ark/indiana_jones_1.jpghttp://ww1.sinaimg.cn/large/6a853733jw6ddi3d3le1kj.jpg
Well for me this miles better than the Sideshow one, sorry that's the way I feel. If others hate it that's fine too, there is nothing I can do to sway other peoples opinion.
As for the Hat, it's one of three things I think need changing to make it better. There should not be a big gap between the ear and the brim.
The other things are that the eye colour it's too brown, and the shoes of course do look wrong and need fixing.
The body does not look too big, it's just near the pathetic Pro body that Indy came with, the Indy Medicom body that's even skinner, and the Spark Plug Toys McCoy

I was taking the In HT I Trust route but when we get blog pics were getting close to product and now I'm scared. I already sold my custom and I'm starting to regret it I think.
There's still time... Those pics could all be of the same prototype figure that was displayed at the HT anni event... At least I hope.

Just how much are they planning on charging for this thing?
Probably somewhere around $200.

Sorry I don't see any comparison at all.
Hot Toys looks like Ford. Cinemaquette's looks like Dominic Purcell

Fact is, there should be no debate here with a Hot Toys Indy -- we should all be marveling at this figure right now going "gawd, it's Ford!"...
But it's not. No matter how hard you want to see it. I don't. This is not a masterful representation of the character like T1 T-800 is.
And Dino: the Ford above looks nothing like the Ford in your sig.
Snake Eater

Sculpt looks good in the pics.
Body too big.
Hat needs major fixing.
Jacket is meh.
Waiting to hear back from Arnie.

It looks way more like Ford than anything else I have seen in 1/6. :dunno
And compared to the other figures, it's the only one that looks like a real person.
The only thing that I think needs fixing is the hat

Geez, tell me thats the old sculpt.
Looks like most initial opinions were on the money, and it wasnt the photography or lighting, the sculpt is awful.
I never thought I would write the following but:
The Sideshow version is superior to the HotToy version. (with a little futzing)
This must be a sign of the Apocalypse.
:devil:devil:devil:devil:devil:devil:devil:devil
Hell, this smiley looks closer to Ford :gun
(Hyperbole for illustrative purposes only, but not by much)

01-19-2011, 05:06 PM
Well it sounds like Arnie's working on the sculpt right now according to Snake, so the photos would have to be of the original sculpt in order to be published. It's no surprise that Tommy Richardson hasn't posted them to his blog though :lol
Wor-Gar
01-19-2011, 05:17 PM
Good! Arnie please save this figure. It deserves better.
And HT: you want Star Wars? Do good on this one. Lucas is watching.
I just wrote that to scare them. Shhhhhh... say nothing.

01-19-2011, 05:25 PM
I know it is too much to ask for.. but I wish they had a new muscle body for this... the tree trunk neck just doesn't fit... for some reason it looks more pronounced on this figure.. yet the HT muscle body with the Sideshow head I used for my TOD doesnt look so thick.. (guess because of the larger SS head)
MaulFan
01-19-2011, 05:31 PM
Probably bad news for Indy fans, but I have a feeling that using the Wolverine body probably means it could be unlikely they'll do too many other Indy figures, I would think if they had some certain recyclability for the body like 2nd or 3rd Indy figures, they might have gone with something less buff, but to use the ripped Wolverine body probably means it's not worth it to them to come up with a more average build body, or maybe they feel like Indy should look all buff, even if Ford doesn't.

Perhaps the photographer just didn't push the hat down far enough onto the head??

The hat is just wrong in 1000 different ways. It looks more like the Last Crusade hat. The Raiders hat has a tight pinch down the front.
The sculpt looks slightly better in these pics ... But why not just hire Trevor? He is the best of the best, especially at Harrison Ford.

That meaty neck is a bit distracting, but I find these pictures much better than those taken during the show. I personally like the hat, and does it look like the grosgrain band is separate from the rest of the hat? Cool. I normally jump on Indy figures - bought all the sideshow ones immediately. If this figure was released as-is for the DX prices I would have to really considering buying it - I like the sideshow Indy on a truetype with a head repaint (and Mike's additions) just fine.

Haha yeah dude that's exactly what I've been thinking. I'm pretty sure they just banged-up his old sculpt for a prototype.
It needs to be better for HT, but even still, that figure would look better than most customs I've seen if you lit it and photographed it like a lot of these customs. Lighting and photoshop go a looooong way.

:dunnoHmmm ?, Hopefully these are just very late pics of the prototype shown in December as sculpt wise it looks no different. It doesn't look much like Ford at all though & in the shot of all the Indy's lined up together it kinda looks Ridiculous, I have faith that HT will revise it as they don't put out that many poor likenesses/figure anymore but it does surprise me that they've made a bit of a ____-up right from the start with this ! - I mean... It's Indiana bloody Jones for gods sake :gah:!!, he's one of the most famous/recognised characters in movie history & i'd expect HT to have nailed this from the get go yet they haven't, I can't understand how they can get such an icon wrong even at prototype stage :slap.

Honestly, I was more impressed with the pics from the HT Expo about a month ago... I don't know it looks good, but not good enough, if that makes sense... like HT could do better.
The hat and shoes are the first things that come to mind, but it could use some more tweaks to the sculpt as well IMO.
I'm still interested in this figure, since I haven't got an Indy figure yet, but right now this is on the last place in my "To buy list"

Yeah, I didn't think there was a real chance that I would skip this, but if it doesn't improve somehow, then I might. I've come to accept off-center DX eyes, and the bulky neck isn't ideal, but I can deal with that, too. But the hat on the head looks totally off and kills the whole look for me somehow.

Just not feeling it. The build is wrong, the clothes are too clean, the likeness isn't exactly blowing my mind. Just a couple of years ago this figure would have been outstanding but now...should be better than what we're seeing.

Hi Guys
I'm Indiana Andrews, Greggo's brother. He has kindly let me post using his username. I am finally joining the freaks tonight and signing up.
Wow there's so much negativity here about this figure, but hey you gotta love the passion!
Speaking as a HUGE Indy fan I am personally disappointed by what has been shown so far, i was so excited when they announced this figure, but let's be objective about this.
It is a prototype, period. It will, I feel sure, improve. However, from my professional viewpoint as a product development creative, I would never had allowed this to be shown to the general public, trade yes, Joe public no.
Production wise in the line up of the four figures, the HT blows away the competition, but the portrait needs work without question. The nose is not long enough, the eyebrows the wrong shape, the eyes the wrong shape. On top of this the fedora needs re-blocking - the pinch tightening, the brim reshaping.
The other main problem I have is the body, it's way too muscular. Now maybe this is a stock body HT have used for the prototype, if not this needs correcting. The reason why Indy had such huge appeal was his everyman quality. Sure he was slim, but Mr Ford was never that cut or defined, or that broad either. This figure looks more like the original concept art.
Costume wise the gun belt is not wide enough, it should be wider than the webbing belt. A minor point the gun belt is too dark. The holster looks huge, compare it to the size of the revolver. Not sure if it is the way the figure is dressed, but the breast pockets on his shirt look too high. The shoes look great, but way too new looking.
These are all simple minor fixes which are bound to be refined. It's a prototype in development after all.
We fans are always the most vocal and we must be heard right? They will hear us HT will get it right. We just need to be patient it will be worth it.
Best to all
Indiana Andrews

Indy will probably be silhouetted like Dutch was until it's ready.
Doubt it, Dutch was put up for preorder before they had a sample people were allowed to see by FOX, Indy's been shown off, nothing to hide, it'll be more like the T2 Sarah Connor, they'll put up whatever photos they have now and if there's a correction made and new photos taken, those will go up eventually.
Hm, I wonder if they'll make much, if any changes at all if they are already going to pre-order him...

Yup.. at this point I see me buying the Arab disguise.. pants, shirt, maybe the jacket and a few pairs of the boots.. even though a number of you have criticized the boots they are actual very VERY good reproductions of Alden 405s.. just need a serious weathering to look like Indy's screen used boots.. but before the prop department weathered his, that is pretty much an exact copy of the boot in the movies... regardless.. at this point they can keep the head, failed fedora, and of course I am in no need for any belts, holsters or sidebags... seriously disappointed...

I believe it's 10% of the item cost, so if the figure were $200 the NRD would be $20. Is it a great deal, no, but, if you ultimately end up not wanting the item, that's money you spent with nothing to show for it.

If I order tomorrow will depend on if there is an exclusive or not... pretty sure $200 is the cut-off for NRDs and I'm guessing that this will be at least that if not more.
If its an extra body (like Lee) I'll probably take the chance, but if its just something lame (like a dart in a torch :lol) I'll take my chances waiting to see what the revisions do.
As it is I don't think its a terrible figure, but the sculpt kind of looks like Arnie Kim never really improved past his earlier efforts. At one time his Ford sculpts were tops... but Trevor has pretty much set the bar for what a Ford sculpt needs to be.

This is the oddest figure I've seen from HT's. At some angles the HS looks spot on and I can definitely see Ford. Then some of the pics I just stare at wanting to see the likeness but can't overall. :dunno
The accessories and dio stuff looks great though! :clap I do hope they fix the hat a little before shipping it.
I order from AE so with the delays between when other retailers ship and AE ships I should have plenty of time to check out some reviews. This will be my first preorder with them instead of an all out purchase.
Did I miss where it says when it will be released?
Hot Toys have been hitting everything out of the park in the last few years.
Bummer that their first big miss in a while had to be Indy....
Who knows...I always go back to their Rocky IV figure a few years ago. The pre-order proto shots looked nothing like the final product which was awesome.
And their Bruce Lee Enter the Dragon figure has had drastic rework over the last few months.

Assuming he doesn't have a magnetized neck, I would probably just switch this guy over to a regular True Type and not worry about the muscle body. I just wouldn't show too much chest. But yeah, the thick neck is just wrong and pretty distracting.
I don't think this figure or the kit that comes with it looks cheap at all, however, there are two main problems I see (as most have already noted):
1) the hat doesn't sit right on the head and appears oversized
2) the neck appears too thick/stubby for the head
At least, these are the biggest issues I have with the figure. They are fixable and ultimately won't be the deal breakers for me on this figure (the price might be, but we'll see).
