Are there any Weird Al heads?

No doubt!....if not, there should be! Ha!

This figure looks nice but the thriller version is still more iconic to me and is all i will buy when it comes to MJ...

I don't know why HT doesn't just do accessory packs for their lines. Technically it's just doll clothing and a new headsculpt...but they just mil folks...they are almost like the 4star Hasbro or Mattel, with their many version of the same character.

Hot Toys Great job, this time is yulli sculpt! :D

What he fails to face (although surely the final version will be better) clearly are the eyes, the look. The hairstyle I expected otherwise, should pay greater respect to the sides shaved ...

For me these would be the points to improve the figure:

-His eyes.
-The neck sculpted as a figure of BAD.
-The white zippered jacket.
-The shoes are different, we have been the same as Billie Jean and Thriller.
-Include piano-shirt and red pants.
- Why not have left the body with sculpted arms?

;)

I'm surprised by the reaction here. Because I just don't see MJ in this sculpt.

The first two weren't spot on, but they were pretty good. Here...aside from one or two of the close-up shots, it just looks like another guy. I will say, though, that I think the eyes are right. But the rest looks totally off to me.

I'm not real sure "exclusive" means "can't get it anywhere but the Tokyo store." Hot Toys uses English terminology pretty loosely. It may just mean "we're the only ones making this cool figure."

Ok guys...
I used Online translation of the Japanese website,
check it out!

http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?doit=done&tt=url&intl=1&fr=bf-home&trurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hottoys.jp%2Fitem%2Fview%2F 100001641.html&lp=ja_en&btnTrUrl=Translate

BTW the most important piece of info there is this (bad translation but you'll get the point!):

The new item of Michael's who records big sales in the world, appears at the number, of rare limitations entire world 4,000 bodies. Because among those, in this event 2,000 bodies are sold with how precedence, it is the chance which obtains the item of large topic decision in the world!

so 4k worldwide and 2k for the show,
I just hope Sideshow gets this!!

T-shirt with piano keys on it would have been a pretty cool, and presumably pretty cheap extra. But these exclusives (with the exception of Friend, of course) are extremely bare-bones, so that's what we got. Personally, like Fabio said in another thread, I'm just psyched to get Beat It MJ and Scarecrow, even if they aren't perfect and decked out with gear.

I'm surprised by the reaction here. Because I just don't see MJ in this sculpt.

I feel the same. I really don't understand how anyone looks at this head and finds it acceptable let alone perfect.

I don't think I'm picky. I look at both T-800 heads and they look perfect to me, the last two Joker releases I found equally perfect, Whiplash and Hans Landa are likewise perfect, a great many I find just absolutely wonderful. I don't look at things and think, 'Well, the likeness is there but the head is too squashed,' etc. That's not to say anything against people making those sort of nitpicks, just that I don't get that far into it, I think I'm pretty easily pleased overall. With all that said, I don't think I'm being difficult or overly demanding in saying this 'Beat It' head is plainly off, it looks just atrocious.

I say this head is undeniably off to the same unacceptable degree that 'Thriller' was off, and 'Prince of Persia' was off. I went back through HT releases thinking I could find a whole heap of poor likenesses to add to that list but to my surprise there's not much that I see as having dropped the ball so terribly - 'Prince of Persia' is the only non-Jackson example I can come up with at this time.

Before I die, my dream is not have children, or to leave a respectable legacy, my dream is just to have one halfway reasonable pre-Bad-era Jackson figure, and with the way things are looking that's never going to happen. I thought HT had learned from 'Thriller,' that they must've recognised that as a mistake and would try to go far beyond it, but it seems not. This head looks definitely like the same man we saw in their 'Thriller' release but I can't say I see any actual Michael Jackson in that face.

Anyone know where I can find a 1/6 scale hyperbaric chamber?

Ahhh... yes... MJ's myth #215... :ohbfrank:

It's not a myth exactly. While he may not have slept in such a contraption, there is a well-known photo of him laying in one, which also featured noticeably in the 'Leave Me Alone' video. It seems to me then like a pretty reasonable thing to want for one's Jackson figures, not to say Karamazov was being serious...

I can't find anything explaining the photo coming up in the first results of Google but I think I read once that the explanation there was that Jackson had the photo of himself arranged and concocted the story and secretly sold it to the news media. For a period in his life he was said to be purposely putting out 'weird' stories about himself for publicity reasons, like this and that he tried to buy the Elephant Man's bones. I might be wrong though, but I seem to remember reading this at some point.

Actually you are wrong...
he bought the chamber to donate it to the hospital he was treated @ for the Pepsi commercial injuries...
these chambers are used as skin therapy for burnt victims...
Yes, he tried the chamber and when tabloids got ahold of the pics things got automatically taken out of context and blown out of proportion... that's what sells... the truth doesn't...
But let's not discuss tabloid crap here...

Oh, you clap now but when the revised 'Thriller' head came out you said it "looks amazing!!", as this record here (http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1841734&postcount=100) attests. We just can't trust your judgments, I'm afraid... From the sounds of some of you, a walnut with a couple of googly eyes glued to it would be enough to have you high-fiving each other.

It's nice to judge by a delicately-lit picture, with it's shadows falling here and there, but I say this more uniformly-lit pictures show how little removed it is from the 'Thriller' sculpt or at least how it would actually look in hand.

Never! I slap your high-five away at the wrist!

I do trust people's judgment on here, some of them. Many people on here I think have a good idea about things. Some though are baffling, how people can say they're pleased by such things. I really do think some of you would be happy with a walnut, and that you found 'Thriller' to be excellent, even if you admit it didn't give you the 'Thriller' vibe, goes to exemplify that in some way. That's not to put you down though, it wasn't an attempt at an insult, it just goes to show where certain people are coming from when they praise this head.

I wasn't searching for your post in particular, I came across it when looking for a comparable 'Thriller' picture to post alongside the above, but then I decided just to let the one picture stand.

It's not just good for me that I don't like this head, it's irritating for me. I very much want at least one halfway decent Jackson head from this era, many want the same thing there, but with every release the opportunities for this disappear. Once HT are through with the Jackson license, which will happen eventually, I don't imagine any other 1/6 company is going to come in and start re-doing them any time soon and so what we're getting now will likely be it for a very long time.

Well, there will be only 2000 available outside of the 2000 for the Tokyo show, so if SS does distribute them it will be in very limited numbers... 500 tops methinks...

I think this sculpt is superb and a great improvement over past MJ sculpt, maybe not 100% perfect, that's not possible IMO... but I bet you if you show that pic to anyone, they'll say it's MJ...

I just think it's funny how every time an HT figure is previewed, there's always people claiming it "looks nothing like him"...
Happened with Leonidas, with Perseus, T-800, Sarah Connor, T-1000, Dastan, Big Chap, John Connor, etc...

Anyway, we'll have to agree to disagree! :duff!

The closeups look quite good, but the pics where you see the figure from a distance, the face just looks off. And the skin colour needs to be much darker.

It should be the same as Thriller.

Heh, I'm heavily in favour of some change of expression (not a crazy mouth-closed smile like 'Thriller' though, certainly not). I think even if the likeness stays the same as it is now, a change of expression would be a great step forward, as others have already suggested. I don't understand why they would go with an expression like this. It's not just 'neutral' or 'expressionless,' it looks like he's sleeping with his eyes open or something. Maybe the license holders have very particular dictates on the expression, I don't why they would though. For too many poses, as with 'Thriller,' it looks just ridiculous. They both have expressions that contradict pretty much any degree of action.

:exactly: At least Thriller had the zombie head, and Bad took cues from the album art... but Beat It? They tailor the outfit off the video, why not the facial expression? I'm not a huge MJ fan but I dig him enough that I'd buy a good figure of him... meaning I want him to have a bit of 'tude.

No, not at all..why should there be a smile at all? The Thriller one's smile was unnessecary , while it was still a great figure, the very first non smiling one was better in many ways. Bad figure had no smile, GOOD. A smile can ruin it, if you ask me :)

Either way....the photos where you see the figure from a distance are just ok, not incredibly accurate at all, definitely NOT MJ in my book, but the closeup pics strangely look very accurate.

NEW ALBUM MICHAEL
AVAILABLE DECEMBER 14, 2010

MUCH ANTICIPATED NEW ALBUM FROM THE KING OF POP
MICHAEL
TO BE RELEASED DECEMBER 14

Exclusive Teaser and Song to be Unveiled on MichaelJackson.com

Tomorrow, an exclusive teaser for the project will appear on www.michaeljackson.com; on Monday, November 8th the world premiere of “Breaking News,” a full track from the album, will stream on the site for one week only.

The creative process never stopped for the King of Pop who was always planning for his next album; unbeknownst to many fans around the world Michael Jackson was writing and recording songs continuously everywhere from a friend’s home in New Jersey to studios in Las Vegas and Los Angeles with a small group of handpicked collaborators. Now, through the unique stories that will be told about the songs that comprise MICHAEL, fans will get mind-blowing insight into how this artist worked and a chance to hear the songs he most recently created along with tracks that Michael had a desire to bring to fruition.

I hadn't even noticed it, until a friend on MSN told me about it. But i have no idea what MJ and Prince eventually were to eachother. I have heard stories that they actually were good friends and simply tried to 'outdo' eachother musically wise...if that's the right word.

MJ had asked Prince to be on 'Bad' but if i remember correctly, Prince said he wasn't needed on the song or something, i don't know it anymore.

There are perfectionists that are gonna hate a sculpt no matter what, and MJ fans that are gonna love the sculpt no matter what. Being someone that, I believe, falls in the middle somewhere, I have to say that likeness just isn't all that great. I think it is mostly the eyes. Won't stop me from buying the figure, but this is not a likeness on par with Hot Toys' Platoon figures by any stretch.

ShadowX81

Im not a perfectionist. I just don't see MJ there. Especially considering Hot Toys history of producing dead on likenesses, this isn't even close. To me it looks like someone that passingly bears a slight resemblance to MJ. I just dont see him. I think its the mouth that is off for me.

Im not a perfectionist. I just don't see MJ there. Especially considering Hot Toys history of producing dead on likenesses, this isn't even close. To me it looks like someone that passingly bears a slight resemblance to MJ. I just dont see him. I think its the mouth that is off for me.

Neither do i, i've said it before...the photos that are up close (of the face) look rather accurate. The photos taken from a distance, basically the whole figure, it simply doesn't. I suggest you folks go take another look at the 'Beat It' video...seriously :)

There are perfectionists that are gonna hate a sculpt no matter what, and MJ fans that are gonna love the sculpt no matter what. Being someone that, I believe, falls in the middle somewhere, I have to say that likeness just isn't all that great.

You're probably right there. I put it down to just people with extremely low demands, write '1/6 Cary Grant Figure' on the picture and suddenly it's 100%-spot-on Cary Grant in their eyes, but there are plenty of Jackson fans who think every song is the greatest, there is no wrong, etc, etc, it's probably more likely that there's a bit of that coming in, as you say. At the same time, I think there's also some who really have a extremely hazy memory of this video, seeming to remember little more than that he was black... That's not to belittle people that say it looks like Jackson, it's just that it seems to me that the lacking in likeness here is a factual matter, as clear as day for those willing or able to look at it objectively.

Like the other person above though, I'd really like the outfit at least, so that if anyone ever does make at least a halfway decent head I'll be ready. The outfit looks just great, wonderful it is.

Won't stop me from buying the figure, but this is not a likeness on par with Hot Toys' Platoon figures by any stretch.

I agree with this, but to me is the best HT MJ likeness so far...

I would like at least one of the HT MJs (and hey, why doesn't HT make sports licenses? I'd love a HT NBA MJ), and I would like it to be this "Beat It" fig, but I'm not liking how the eyes are in the HS. They are a little too droopy to me. If they don't tweek it, I may have to wait for the Smooth Criminal one...

I'd like to see a Billie Jean Version or a pre-nose job version. I've got the Thriller figure and the likeness is awesome. I prefer these earlier versions before he altered his appearance in to the Gray Jimmy Cagney/ Diana Ross Alien look. The 80's are when Micheal still looked like Micheal.

I think they still allow pre-orders within 30 days. HOWEVER, I fully expect this guy to clear out his Paypal account and to get out of dodge well before then. A pretty good scam, though he could make twice this much if he started putting up pre-orders for the Batman figures as well.

"The exclusives this time won't be available outside Japan and HK. Compared to fans abroad, Japanese fans are lucky to be able to get these easily, and to get them before anyone else."

2000 are going to be released at the tokyo expo and 2000 at the toyhunter store in HK in early january with VIP members having first chance and after that if theres any let, people can buy from toyhunter store but can only buy 1 out of the 3 exclusives. with there being 2000 i expect alot of them to appear on ebay from HK sellers, its just a case of how much the sellers are going to charge.

i know hot toys don't release production numbers but i kept reading they only made 2000 original costume batmans and that wasn't hard to get.

Something doesn't look right, when it comes to the face.

To me, it looks too beefy and box-like, like the head of a body-builder, a head you'd expect to see on that sort of body. It's almost like a black G.I. Joe, to me... If they gave the figure some sort of expression though, something more than this lifeless/sleeping one, I think I would've been happy, I probably wouldn't have such an issue with the likeness. I don't understand how people, if they think this is spot-on, don't seem to find any issue with the expression.

This time they have come very close

Anyway, surely in hand will be better.

Almost exact to the facial expression of the Thriller proto head! A nice repaint (especially on the lips) would bring the sculpt out.

Sucks its not going to be released here. :gah:

It sucks that such an iconic version of MJ has to be a Japanese exclusive. Why couldn't they choose to do something else that wouldn't rob us of something like Beat It?

Like do an MJ Thriller with the varsity jacket and jeans with the switch-out werewolf head. That, I could see as a worthy exclusive.

By not having Beat It be available to the MJ fans as a whole is a travesty!

Wait until people actually have them in hand and the market gets saturated with them. The price will go down for a while. The question is just how much.

This figure retails for approximately $220US in Japanese yen. Even with the lowest markup from a seller abroad, you will be spending at least $250-275, without factoring shipping.

As much as I wish I could set a limit too for $200, it's just not going to be realistic unless a seller wants to take a loss compared to what he paid for it directly from the Tokyo show.

Is $220 the conversion from the initial announcement ("MSRP")? If so, that number is probably much higher than what those stores will actually charge. That was the case with the SDCC exclusives, and several other HT releases from my understanding.

With only 4 grand in production I wonder if that statement will hold water.
4,000 is a lot more than was produced of the Guardian Pred, supposedly. And Predators is probably as popular with the global collecting community as MJ. I wouldn't be shocked if regular releases like Thriller MJ didn't have a production run over 5,000. But, we don't know because Hot Toys doesn't say.

Yes, check my post on page 11 of this thread. I posted a pic taken off of Hot Toys' Japanese website. The MSRP is 18,000 yen, which as of today is worth $216.87.

The only "store" that would possibly get this is Toy Hunters in Hong Kong. Being distributed by Sideshow IF it comes to the US doesn't count as a store since Sideshow isn't really a brick & mortar store. But god, I hope Sideshow gets a couple of these to distribute!

Like I said before, the MSRP on these is useless, apparently, since previous releases have not gone for the amount initially shown. Sideshow and Toy Hunters exclusives included. That isn't to say that we won't have to pay more.

The item will only sell at a high price if the scalpers know there is a huge demand for them. The more we work ourselves up into a frenzy the more the dollars go up.

That's usually the route things take. One seller sells it at a ridiculous price, so the next seller looks at that price and tries to undercut it by one dollar even if the first seller isn't getting people to buy it at that price. Hot Toys cares so much about us (the fans) that they pretty much hand deliver it to the scalpers.

It was obviously a dumbass idea. Considering that 'Beat It' isn't an obscure title that barely anyone knows. It's off the damn Thriller album! Even people who don't like MJ know 'Beat It'...

I find it interesting that the sellers who are already selling this with a Buy-It-Now price on eBay have over a dozen preorder auctions. (for example, this "TonyCheung1965" seller)

How in the hell did he get so many if these auctions are indeed going to be legit? lol Must be nice to have a hook-up from HT I guess.

I was honestly thinking of buying from him. He's got the feedback to back it up. I sent him a question about his guarantee to fulfill on his pre-orders. Before he could get back to me the auctions had ended. So somebody is buying. However, I have yet to get an answer.

I really thought this looked truly terrible before, just horrendous, but those pictures above, and a couple of other recent ones, look strangely great. I don't know if they've changed the sculpt, they probably haven't, but it's looking very nice to me there, the likeness seems fine (particularly in the last picture of the head) and the face seems to have lost that dopey/sleepy look in the eyes.

Maybe it's just my Christmas cheer though, blinding me... That 'Moonwalker' person was against it just as much as me. If he/she likes this then maybe it really is looking nicer.

depends how many VIP memberships he has. when the 2000 are released at the toyhunter stores, VIP's will have priority and after that non VIP's can buy them but can only have 1 out of the 3 exclusives.

or maybe he does have a worm on the inside, i remember he had the T2 T-800 box on his listing a couple of weeks before it was even out.
