Seems like they put alot more articulation into this piece than was needed (especially with bending knees), but they'd probably get complaints if it turned out like Hasbro's.

If he's able to hold these poses then the articulation will be phenomenal.

Hasbro does Droids well. I've got IG-88 displayed alongside my Sideshow pieces and he fits in nicely. Not sure, he needs that much articulation but I'm anxious to see how he turns out.

come on, it's obvious WHY they loaded him down with articulation.

it's a test run in preparation for Grevious.

They talk as if he is done. I would ____ all over myself for IG-88 to be announced soon. And not just because I want that character in a figure. I want ALL of the characters as figures. But I would be excited for the direction the line is taking and the fact that would be happening faster than I expected as well.

I thought he was going to be announced soon? I remember SSC mentioning that 2011 would be the year of the Bounty Hunters. Given that Yoda is 1st Qtr of '11, I could see IG-88 being their 2nd Qtr figure to start off the Bounty Hunters. Meaning he could be up for PO in the next couple of months.

I have been under the impression that Sideshow is still a way off from droids. So I was thinking other bounty hunters. Either way...I am all the way good with it!

I don't know how excited I'll be with an IG-88. I'm glad they are making him but I'm pretty sure I'll pass. It's just so hard to start a bounty hunters line if they don't even have the MASTER of all bounty hunters in Boba Fett and Jango Fett.

Yea, there was some Q&A session recently that mentioned the first Bounty Hunter would be the "one who would be good at working a bar" or some hint like that. It turns out that IG-88's head (or one very much like it) was scene in the Cantina bar as some type of beverage dispensor, so people are pretty positive that means IG-88 is up first. I guess SSC considers him to be more part of the Bounty Hunter series than the Droid series - makes sense.

Do you think maybe he'll go up during CV?

Could be possible, though CV is coming up soon and I would think SSC normally has more time between 1/6 scale releases.

I hope Boba Fett is out before IG-88!

Then you'll be disapppointed. The Medi Boba/Jango comes out late this year and I doubt SSC will step on Medi's toes by releasing a Boba before or shortly after the Medis.

I think it's already been mentioned in a Q&A that a SSC Boba/Jango is still a long ways out. Whereas, IG-88 almost seems ready for production and full reveal.

The video showed a mock up of a Mandolorian helmet... so guessing they are not too far behind.

IG-88 looks like he's going to be rivaling the HT Endoskeleton in terms of pusing the envelope on a non-standard body figure.

Really glad to see Sideshow is willing to take risks like this... IG-88 will be a definite purchase :rock

Seems like a no-brainer. Companies like to reuse parts whenever they can... get more money out of their investment.

I'd also guess we'll see a couple versions of both R2 and C-3PO. Not to mention different styles of droids using the same bodies.

All that's really different between the standard C3po style protocal droids and 4-Lom, the death star droid, and the silver version from the sand crawler sceen is just the heads and upper torso's, so they can pretty much do a bunch of figures once they finish one. The sad part is variations like the flat red and flat white colored versions from ESB would probably cost the same as plated versions like C3po and TC-14 even though they would be cheaper to produce.

As for the R2 body, your right, the possibilities are endless, but its still going to be about what they think will sell, but I would expect them to do a few of the major ones from the films like R5-d4, the black imperial version of either the R2 or R5 (hopefully both), and Obi's droid that lost his head in Ep 3. I would would really like to see #23 in the picture you posted done, since it would go great with any Tantive scene related characters from ANH. He's the only small Star Wars figure thats left from my collection because I wanted to do a 1/6th version of him.

But any of the variants of the droids with little screen time would make great exclusives, for things like the SDCC.

I will get all of those that turned up in the movies.:)

The scary part is almost all of those droids in the pictures GB posted were in the films, even if just in the background for a slit second, so if they do go crazy with droids I hope you got deep pockets. :lol

galactiboy
08-24-2010, 09:55 AM
Yeah, I don't think Sideshow will go all-out Hasbro style with them... but I could see at least a handful of variants being sellable.

Just look how many times they've already used the Clone Armor... many of them had about as much screen time as the various droids :lol

Don't be too excited... they don't really stay in place when you extend his legs. Usually one sinks down before the other and before you know it he's back to a shorter stature.

But still, for a Hasbro figure he turned out great. Give him a repaint and he looks great on the shelf.

The collapsing legs are pretty easy to fix, and there are probably a dozen ways to do it. The easiest is to wedge something up into the slot in the back of his legs.

Like I said, there are dozens of ways to fix it, but I think an easily
reversible method is always best especially if its just as easy as gluing, and using a hot glue gun would be both easy and reversible.

Its pretty vogue to bash Sideshow these days...I've never seen customers turn on a company soo fast...LOL

Yeah, I'm kind of torn between my loyalty to a company that I think is really great, has done well with their licenses, and has an unsurpassed level of communication with it's fan-base, and the issues of increasing prices without a quality increase comparable to other companies. It's a real problem Sideshow is facing, particularly since they're the ones who distribute the very items that continue to show them up in big ways.

I don't think anyone would argue that if we could get the volume of licensed product Sideshow releases with the quality that Hot Toys has maintained and the introduction of light effects that Medicom has premiered with it's own droids, we'd all be fine with the price increases.

But, as much as I love my Emperor figure, I absolutely do not understand why it cost $40 more than Bib Fortuna, which had a lot more included in the package and was of equal quality. By the way, the ex. for Bib also didn't languish on the site well after the figures had shipped.

I've gone off topic a bit here, but you can see why these issues are starting to irk the once-loyal fan base.

Having said that, I am looking forward to seeing what happens with IG-88! I love that they decided to tackle this complicated figure and give it a lot of articulation! It looks like they're putting a lot of the love and care the company is known for into this figure. Naturally, we're rooting for them to show off that Medicom and Hot Toys aren't the only ones who can give us light effects, and this is a prime opportunity to do just that.

Matt S
09-18-2010, 12:27 PM
To me, Sideshow does have the issues you describe....I can see how a figure like Ig-88 that has to built from scratch will cost more than an Emperor figure.

For myself, Sideshow has issues with their:

Paint app quality
Accessory quality - too few included with $100 figures
Scale issue - Vader standing next to Emperor explains that

Good points, CM! I actually share most of the issues with you to some degree.....I actually HATE the Emperor figure cause he aint a $100 item

That said, IG-88 is one of my fav background characters of all time - one of two HASBRO 12" I kept, so of course I am pumped for a highly detailed version from Sideshow

Or not.

I kid. I want the bounty hunters as well. But I am happy to wait if it means getting a frakkin' monster kick-*** figure.

But I love the clones as well, not quite as much, but enough that I am satisfied with them as fillers between other frakkin' monster kick-*** figures.

Cody is my only preorder right now......so if they do Ig88 this year, it'll be my next. As much as I love Clones, Cody is it for a while. Until Gree or a clone like that

I'm betting on $159.99 or higher.

The Battle Droids were so low because of the massive re-use possibilites. I'll bet $100 Sideshow told the factory to make 30,000 Battle Droids, so they got a rock bottom price. You can count on a repainted Battle Droid for next years SDCC exclusive and a retailer exclusive, just like they did with the Stormtrooper figure. All the molds for those parts are crazy expensive, but with those molds they made 3 different Stormtroopers, and what?? about 4 different Sandtroopers. So, they were able to bring the per unit cost down.

You can't do that with IG-88, he's a one and done figure. Unless people are going to army build Assassin Droids but that seems unlikely.

Prepare for sticker shock when the Snowtrooper and Biker Scout are announced.

Really want me an IG-88, but will all depend on the price point for me. I'll probably still PO the EX regardless, but if it's over $120 it's going to be tough to swallow in the end.

Great to finally see him being revealed though after all the time since it was announced he's coming.

SilentSurfer

It does look like you found that part, and you can see the same thing in the freeze frame of the video above.

Maybe in the teaser pic, he's facing to his left and aiming the gun to his right with the articulation point being at the elbow instead of the top of the arm.

galactiboy

It's the one problem I've had with SSC doing IG - the Hasbro one you did the repaint on really is pretty great sculpt-wise.

The SSC one will obviously be better but it's going to be a case of 8.5/10 versus 10/10. And $30 versus $150.

Figs like 12" Walrusman are "okay" (maybe 7/10) Hasbro figures that need an uprgrade, but IG and Zuck weren't in that category to me.

Yeah, I think after seeing the increased poseability I would rather upgrade. But I'm coming out a head on the custom one so I'm looking that as a discount on the Sideshow one :lol

Based on what they've shown and on the fine work they've done on the battle droids, I'm sure that IG-88 will be an amazing piece.
BUT as IG-88 isn't a figure I plan to keep on display, I'm just going to re-paint my hasbro one.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying anything against the sideshow version, just that I don't feel a need to buy this one.
Boba Fett on the other hand.. I would have to trade up for.

For me this 12 inch will allow me to run in a masterly way the bounty hunter theme by Sideshow. Remember that Boba Fett and 4-Lom are already being prepared and a rumor speaks of an environment below "on the bridge of the executor. A Dengar, Zuckuss one within 2 years should be fantastic 12 inches!

Well so far I did get paid for the custom one... so I'm half way to my wish list :lol But yeah, I'm not expecting a low cost unless Sideshow has solid plans to make some more variants; that seems the only way we'll get a cheap price on him.
