SO glad I snagged the exclusive on this guy. Having this in-hand and seeing the engineering they clearly put into it is going to be amazing.
This is going to be a really unique SSC figure too - it's a rare figure that they create from scratch.
One thing that is still a bit confusing about this fig - has anyone come up with a reason why the head is so different from the ESB character? It is so radically different, it's obviously intentional:
http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g466/customspics2011/Picture72.png
This is Hasbro 12" fig, movie prop, and SSC (c/u still from video)
It must be based on some other version of IG - CW? EU? Can anyone identify it?
Looks like the head simply has spinning parts . In ESB IG-88 sensors spun around when Vader was briefing the bounty hunters.PLus the figure shown is a prototype.

The only thing putting me off is its lack of screen accuracy to the film prop. Obviously ppl want something with articulation beyond Hasbro's awesome effort but it just seems far too EU for my tastes...

That sucks!! I have have to wait for Commander Gree as well! Looks l'll be ending the year with Fi'rigan Dan.
I'm glad I canceled the Battle Droids and didn't order the Sandtrooper and Dewback, I couldn't finacially handle 3 releases in back to back months .
At least I'll be able to use Christmas Money to pay for part of soem of it.

I'd be really impressed if that was what caused the delay. Even though it seems like a broader issue (on account of how many other figures were pushed back) it would be cool if they took the opportunity to bring it back to an ESB design.

I don't know if its just a matter of proper fitting, its seems to be a deliberate attempt to animate an otherise dull figure, while i prefer a movie accurate version I don't mind this, seems to give it more character

The section between the "eyes" and O "mouth" is missing.
Funny that cheapo Hasbro's is more accurate than a figure made 10 years later for $175.
Still, light up feature and that Ex blade has me by the *****.

Good call, you guys! That section is def missing - maybe because this is a prototype? It's not a "deal-breaker" by any stretch, this is simply too awesome a figure, but now that I'm aware of this glitch, I hope SSC catches it before production. If not, though, I won't lose any sleep over it. :)

It looks like the missing cylinder under the "eyes" is inspired by the CW design of the IG-86 robots. I agree that for "IG-88" they at least make an ESB accurate dome for such a unique character.

:lecture:exactly::goodpost:
I'm with you. I love the EU figures but when it comes to a figure like IG-88 where there are 2 versions (EU and OT) I want the OT one first and maybe only. In thiis case I would only buy an OT IG-88. I also have the hasbro IG-88 and will probably mod it to be more accurate as you have.

09-27-2011, 06:12 PM
after seeing the comparison photo, it doesn't really even represent the EU IG-88 accurately either....
There's absolutely no reason why this 31 year old plastic Kenner toy should have a more accurate head than the state of the art Sideshow version. None at all.

I don't really care about the head details being off. It's the same character to me. What really bothers me is knowing that IG-88's head was not a cool deliberate design, but a quick re-use of parts from the cantina bar. That just took all the magic out of that character for me.
Still keeping my order though. I've lived with the magic longer than the let down. I'll adjust back.
I'll just pretend that the cantina is so hardcore that they dismantled some 88's for parts for the bar. Yeah, I like that.

and given the bartender's hate of droids (that now has some kind of clone war era tie in i bet) it makes a cool kind of sense they'd have those heads as drink dispensers as trophies maybe. And this part was scavenged from a Rolls-Royce Derwent aircraft engine. IG-88's head came from there, and so did the exposed engine from Luke's ANH Landspeeder, and the emitter from Obi-Wan's ANH saber.

Am I the only one still getting this if they don't fix the head? I think it looks great, and honestly would never have noticed the discrepancy if it weren't pointed out before. Would it be better if they did, absolutely, but this figure is just going to be too cool. It's such a minor character that I think they are allowed a bit of freedom on the accuracy front.

I don't understand how anyone familiar with the character doesn't think the head is seriously wrong, or would be happy if it arrived as shown. It was the first thing I noticed on the figure. I expect the final figure will have the missing piece.

Today..Ig88, Red Clone Captain, and the Green siege Battalion clone notifications.
That is 5 very expensive sideshow figures hitting way to close to each other. When it rains it pours.

I've got a feeling that IG-88 is going to amaze us all once we start seeing him in person. Sideshow really nailed this one. Once the other bounty hunters are released I can see this guy being very expensive on Ebay, especially for the exclusive version.

Based upon the video Sideshow released he looks extremely poseable. They stated that they wanted him to move more like the IG droids from the Clone Wars cartoon. I'll see if I can dig up the video.
EDIT: Found it...46 seconds into it you can see just how much you can pose him.

There's an even better video out there that has all his parts color coded and showed even more articulation...can't seem to find it though. I think it was from SDCC 2 years ago...

Thanks! Didn't realize it was finally added to the gallery, wasn't there on Monday! It looks almost identical to the one used for Fett, wonder if they just threw it on or if both come with the same base?
So what's the point in having legs that short in the first place? And then SSC announces that they will extend on the final product? How strange.
That's like releasing Han Solo on a hobbit body and saying "don't worry we'll include limb extensions." I don't get it. Just make them the proper length from the get go.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the IG series of droids had the ability to extend/retract their legs. I guess SS was going for a realistic version of him. I appreciate the detail though..gives up more options to pose him.

But I'll tell ya, I've been ordering elsewhere and I greatly miss Sideshow's customer service. It's well worth the extra scratch when then time comes.

Hmm...you think a brand new sculpt, with illuminated head and base for under 200 bucks is bad? I think it's a pretty fair price considering the market. How cheap do you think this should be? 25 bucks? Maybe 40? And as for the plastic comment do you think they should mold them in real metal?

So Iggy's coming with the lighted base they displayed with Fett at last year's SDCC...guess that could be a distinguishing display feature for more bounty hunter (at least the OT ones) figures. That could make for a great group display.
It still lists "extendable legs" as a feature on the site and the "hose"/"power lines" on the legs have a bit of slack in them so it is possible. The "product size" is listed as 14.5" H (368.3mm), although they do mention that it's "approximate"....
It's not a deal-breaker for me if the legs are as pictured, I'd just like to see the finished figure rival Vader in height and/or tower over the average figure.
With Iggy coming up fast, I hope some shots of the finished product show up online soon...

My guess us that they'll use these lighted stands for ALL the bounty hunters so you can display them all together and they'll match.
As for the Executor bridge, SS hinted that they're working on an environment expansion piece of that, so there's also that potential for display.

IIRC, didnt one of the IG's get destroyed on Bespin? I remember reading it somewhere and seeing the head in ESB. Maybe thats why they did the base that way?

I was just thinking that. Bespin Luke on that lighted base would be awesome!

I have the EX on order and I'm super excited to get him but I'm a bit worried about the leg extenders.
The specs say he is 14 inches. Is that extended or as we see him in the pictures?
I'm fearful of a short IG-88.
The base should have been made to scale....:gah::)
A close check with the movie scene, can easily tell its about 60% of the actual size.

Even if not to scale, a larger base would have been much better.

Little disapointed in the base, they could have shown that back at comic con if that was the intent, instead of using it for fett. I was really hoping for something from the star destroyer.

What if SS made all the bounty hunters and finish the "line" with the TESB Vader?

Sideshow has gotten lazy with some of their stuff, IMO. Every EX clone comes with a 'different' stand is a prime example of this to me
Same reason why they have made 500 different clones....

I don't own any Hot Toys stuff, but they seem to handle characters like Vader, with the armor and electronics, real well. Sideshow handles armor well too, hence I own two clones and preordered Boba, but I just think Hot Toys would make the superior, albeit more expensive version of Vader. I'd buy a Sideshow ESB Vader too, though.
To stay on topic, though, I want IG-88, but I want to make sure they make all the bounty hunters from ESB before buying him. Boba is, well Boba, but I wouldn't buy any other ESB bouny hunters unless we get the whole set.

Got a hunch that the deal with HT and SS will have more armored figs from SS and more detailed humans from HT...as others have stated in numerous posts.

I'd be absolutely stunned if SS didn't do the entire Bounty Hunter line-up. Seems like they picked the two most popular to kick off the group and gauge interest among collectors. I'd venture that when they get around to it, Bossk would be the third. I can't imagine that 4-LOM would be released until SS rolls out a C-3PO, but I have a strong hunch that he and R2 will make appearances sooner rather than later. Then watch all the droid variants roll out! Dengar would be the most likely choice for fourth release from the bounty hunters, which leaves Zuckuss to duke it out with 4-LOM for 5th and 6th spots. My prediction! :lecture

Oh, I like Zuckuss just fine, seems like a character that always gets short shrift, though. Come to think of it, it would make more sense for SSC to hold off on Dengar until after they've revealed the Snowtrooper (I'll bet that one isn't far off, either), since he sports pieces of Snowtrooper armor...hmmm...

Sideshow has a bad habit of not completing "lines" in case no one has noticed. Don't be shocked to get three bounty hunters and then nothing.

If they are going to keep "The Bounty Hunters" line going, next will probably be Zuckuss or Dengar, since Medicom is doing 4-LOM.
I think "Return Of Jedi" Boba Fett coming out between bounty hunter 5 (BOSSK) and 6 (probably SS 4-LOM) to give line a finishing boost.

Here are the ones on the bridge of the Executer from "The Empire Strikes Back" which people would like sideshow to make. From left to right are Dengar, IG88, Boba Fett, Bossk and 4-LOM. So far Fett and IG88 are to be released this year.

Anyone remember the funny bounty hunter skits they did on Robot Chicken Star Wars? They turned Bossk into a James Bond type hero and Dengar was a fast talking sleazy kind of guy with toilet paper on his head. Anyway, every time I see these bounty hunters lined up I have a chuckle to myself.

I think unextended the Hasbro was around 12" tall... but extended it was closer to 14". Sideshow really needs to make sure the extended feature works as he just looks too squat when in the shorter position.
Here he is on display... The Weequay is about on the same plane as him and is a standard 12" tall; so from that you can see IG-88 is significantly taller with the legs extended.

Thanks for posting that pic, galactiboy. He looks so much better with the legs extended. The proportions look correct. Sideshow's looks stumpy and wrong with them retracted. They are really doing a disservice to the figure by not showing the legs extended.

No problem, here's another where its just him, but the legs are fully extended.
