If it's 1:6 scale, I won't get it. If it's a smaller scale diorama, I might. A Luke & Yoda training diorama would be awesome, although they might not want to depart from the "VS" theme. But Yoda's hut in 12" scale would be too big for me.
MaulFan
07-11-2010, 03:45 PM
I'm a little less than excited about this for a few reasons. First being, if it's the full hut, this will probably be as big, or bigger than Jabba's throne and it'd be an entire home, not just a slab with a railing, it'd take up a lot of space and probably cost like $500. The other side of that is, it could just be a section of the hut to keep it smaller, but then what section do you go with. I think a Dagobah swamp environment would be better for figures than the hut, more interesting visual scenes took place outside, the first encounter, Luke's training, the hut scenes were basically eating dinner and Yoda's death. As a diorama, the hut could be cool, for the figures I think more action related environments from Dagobah would add to display. You could even use it to setup the Luke vs. Ghost Vader duel if you wanted.

It'll be completely made out of polystone, cost an insane amount and while it'll look great it'll be a passable item for the majority of fans. The thrones (Cobra, Emperor and Thrawn) would all have looked just as great made of plastic and with the cost spent on getting the factory paint right. I for one am not excited about this announcement but hope that it means the 1/6 Yoda is sooner than later.

No interest in a hut. Seems awkward whether full or open like a doll house.
I'd take some Daeth Star walls or something like that to build a backdrop.
I wish they'd spend this energy on vehicles (speeder bike) and larger animals (Taun Taun).

Ditto. It's too limited in it's appeal (you can only display Yoda, R2 and Luke) and it would probably take up too much room (and obviously be overpriced, as usual). At least with the cantina tables/chairs you can build something larger with lots of aliens, of if they made Death Star walls it'd make more sense with troopers, droids, officers and Darth, the Emperor, etc.

And they've shipped out the Emperor's throne with no Emperor.

Is it something with the casting process? Can you do the polystone with a cold cast method, therefore allowing cheaper materials for molding vs. steel? Just makes one wonder.

Normally styrene plastic requires a metal mold, therefor that tooling costs more than the materials used for casting polystone. However this should translate into lower prices for us consumers, as they aren't investing $100,000 into metal tooling for styrene.

I'd love to see the justification now, on what they were thinking making them so buff. They have their charm now, just like Vintage figs. Luke and his skin-tight pants, and bulging pecs. . .
I remember getting a set of those figs from the Star Wars Insider way back.
kl241
07-13-2010, 01:16 AM
Their justification was essentially that they had to be "heroic" to appeal to boys. Most of the male action figures of the late 80's/early 90's were buff mostly due to the success of Mattel's Masters of the Universe line so toy companies were drunk with the idea that making action figures look like steroid using mongrels equated sales. If you look at the other toys that "Kenner" was producing at the time (Terminator/Aliens/Predator/Batman/Robocop and the Ultra-Police) you wouldn't have really been surprised.

With Yoda's hut and tauntauns on the way we're soon going to have some show stopping ESB collectibles available. I fell out of love with Bespin Luke and sold him off so I'll either wait for a snowspeeder pilot or Dagobah training variation if they go either of those routes. I suppose people could also display Jedi Luke with the hut if they wanted to.

Well, it COULD be the whole thing. It really isn't that big, is it? I would just hope there is a cutaway wall/roof so you can reach in and easily look inside.
Could be GREAT if they do a full interior with all those nooks and crannies! I'm probably getting my hopes up because most likely it's just the exterior dome with an empty inside.

Yeah that's not possible. It'd the size of a card table and the solid polystone would be over $200 in shipping alone. I could see them doing enough of the floor to fit Luke, Yoda and a cooking pot or two though. Maybe a wall going up behind them with portal for R2 to look through.

Except, while it would take time, it wouldn't take much creativity. That's not to say making Yoda's hut doesn't require work and effort, but basically it's a solid sculpt and things that Sideshow's been doing for years, so I can't imagine any of the creative effort that figures like Chewie would need was tied up on the hut.

Snake is funny, but not worth it. The one thing that always gets me with this merch, is that Yoda never looks the right color. I know ESB had a blue-ish tint to it, but Yoda's green shouldn't be that bright. He's an ugly green.

While this is a glaring oversight, the limitations of scale make it an impossibility.
Even the Hasbro fig separated at the waist, and his toros just plugged into the backpack. There's no way they could make Yoda fit in the bag, and Luke would topple over with all that weight on his back.

I agree that the detail is amazing in the hut that is just not there with Jabba. I love Jabba and the throne but it doesnt look as complete as this set is. All we need now is Luke's Camp and a new Dagobah Luke along with a dirty R2 to complete the set.

I really like the detail they seem to have put into the hut. I was originally just going to get Yoda but I'm debating about picking up the hut too. I was kind of hoping he'd have his lightsaber but it's not too big of a deal since he never used it in ESB unless there is some other version/remake of the scenes that I don't know about.

Exactly.... no stand listed! :lol
I guess the log is the stand in a round about kinda way.
So who's buying the Barbie dream house? I really hope there's a garage for my Yoda's pink Corvette.

I'll only get the Corvette if Yaddle is coming out soon. Couldn't justify it for just one figure.:wink1:

Guys I have a question about the flexpay option, let's say I put an order for an item on flex about an hour ago, if I were to cancel it now would I have to pay one of their cancellation fees?

Yoda looks a bit too much like a Hasbro repaint of this figure. That ain't good.

At least Hasbro's came with the backpack.

Why are folks crying for the backpack? There's no figure to put it on. And if/when there is... he'll surely come with it.

Sideshow plans a backpack, it'll be made of polystone and cost $150.
The hut would be nice to have (for the completist in me), but looks rather cramped, thus unimpressive, and costs way too much. I could make a better one for less money.

I'm not really into 1/6 scale figures much anymore, but I ordered the exclusive of this guy. I think the sculpt is great -- much better than the Medicom version.
I don't quite understand the scale though. In this picture with the apple, he kind of looks too tall.
http://homepage.mac.com/denkinews/images/toys2/ss_yoda1.jpg
But he looks fine in the shot with Luke. He looks shorter than the stated 5.5 inches here. Maybe they just have him hunched over more.

As for the environment, it looks pretty cool, but would be difficult to display well (kind of like Jabba's throne in that sense). Given the price, I'll definitely pass but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of getting one later if they become available more cheaply (again, like Jabba's throne).

Personally, I think they have finally trumped Jabba & his Throne with this. But I'm sure others won't be as swept away.
I'd call it a tie. Both look spectacular really. You can't go wrong with either or having both. The thing that would push this ahead is I love Yoda.
Still trying to decide if I'm gonna get the hut or not.

How hard would it have been to give him some rooted hair instead of those hideously sculpted sideburns and widened his face and painted the skin color correctly? This looks like the vintage Kenner figure in 1:6 scale but even Kenner got his skin color right.

I think the pic shows how well SSC did, I mean look at the neck size in the movie Yoda:lol it had to be large enough for the puppeteer to get his hand up into his head :lol. Thank goodness SSC didn't follow that dimension exactly. I bought both the exclusive Yoda and his Hut:yess:.

That may just be the worst modern Yoda sculpt I've seen. I guess it matches the rest of Sideshow's line though. I don't know why people still collect this junk when the market is flooded with better stuff.

I think this may be the first time that Sideshow was EASILY bested by a Medicom predecessor in the SW 1/6 scale category.

I dunno, I much prefer the Sideshow version (and I used to have the Medicom one). It does seem like Sideshow sort of "reverse engineered" an older version of the prequel Yoda rather than recreating the actual ESB Yoda, though. Not crazy about that.
