at it big time. Anybody that can do the light saber effect to these two pics I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Vader's light saber looks a bit small and why does he have another one on his belt?

OK, I've finished the first one so far...

and I also did an alternate version with brighter sabers and some rudimentary lighting effects... I could make the lighting look less 2 dimensional, but that'd take more time. Here is the alternate version:

Nicely done on that first one! :clap

Thank you! :D

For Vader, here's the basic saber effect:

Now since the pic only had one saber to do, I thought I'd get a little fancier with the lighting for the darker version this time... It is Darth Vader we're talking about here! Qui-Gon, Mace Windu, and Darth Maul's sabers can look a little "off," but Vader deserves more respect than that! So without further adue, I give you the alternate version of the Vader pic:

Should paint out the saber on his belt.

What's wrong with having a spare? :huh

Remember how many times Anakin lost his saber in EpII? It was at least twice... and the second time he destroyed it by accident. Now he'll be ok if his Jar-Jar-like clumsiness makes him lose a saber. :lol

anyway, I removed the extra saber...

then added what I thought was a neat looking background from TFU (it's on Kashyyyk)

exoticlex-sabers2v2.jpg

then I made an alternate version of that

exoticlex-sabers2darkv2.jpg

and then I decided Vader might look better standing in a dark hallway on the Death Star...

anyway, I really hope EXOTICLEX likes at least one of these! :lol

my goodness...you went all out....thanks man....you are da man....and his saber looks short because it's pointing a little forward....so if your lady ask the same thing you can tell her that...

You're quite welcome! :)

And thanks I'll remember that!

"Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?"

"No, not really, it just looks that way because it's pointed forward a bit!"

:lol

This is great! Love the light on the storm troopers! :rock

Death Star hallway is the winner. Nice job Dude, the lighting is awesome, especially on the troopers.:winner

Thanks guys! :D

I'm pleased with the way it turned out, I think it's one of my best Photoshopped action-figure pics so far. The only problem is the horrible outline around the figures... see, instead of cutting out the figures and putting them in front of a background, I cut a hole in the background and put it in front of the figures... :lol

It was really a pleasure to work on this pic, it was great practice for me. I learned a lot about what will or will not work for adding in fake lighting, and I learned how to keep the details in the pic better when the fake lighting is on top. I also learned to go easy on the lighting, and to make it as gradual as possible where needed, and I also used a transparent brush to paint the light on (in a separate layer which I set to "add," which makes it so colors in the layer lighten the layers beneath it)... It was just a great learning experience.

I still think Vader might have needed that extra saber... :lol

great job as well unsung...I really suck at this so it's great to know you guys can make them so well...thanks a lot...

Yeah unsung, nice job!

Your saber style is a little different from mine... There are so many different ways to do lightsabers, it's interesting to see the different approaches different people have to making lightsabers.

and EXOTICLEX, all you need to be "good" at photoshop is:
a) Photoshop :)duh :lol)
b) time/experience/practice
c) online tutorials, and
d) more time/experience/practice

I started using Photoshop (well, actually a similar program called Picture Publisher 7 that came with my flat-bed scanner) around 8 years or so ago. I couldn't do diddly squat for much of that time, it's only just now that I'm starting to be satisfied with what I can do (now I have an actual version of Photoshop, but it's just Photoshop Elements which pretty much means "cheap-ass version" :lol).

If you wanna be "good," (a term I use loosely because it's largely based on 2 things: your opinions and your expectations of yourself), just practice with photoshop, mess around with some online tutorials (that's where I learned to make lightsabers first - it was a tut I found, then adapted and modified for my own purposes), and ask for advice from people when you need it.

Of course, it makes perfect sense if being a expert photoshopper isn't one of your top priorites, in which case having other people do the photoshopping for you is just fine.

If you'd like, I can write you up some tutorials for how I do lightsabers, fake lighting, and background replacement, as well as some generalized steps to make your pictures a little less washed out... But it'd depend largely on whether or not you have a real Photoshop program, or how close to Photoshop whatever program you have is.

Always happy to help! :)

PS unsung, it looks like what you're doing is using the outline of the plastic blade itself for the basis of your saber - is that what you're doing? I just draw a line over top and use that... I may have to go back and change it so it doesn't look so square-ish at the end!

After seeing unsung's sabers, I decided that mine were too blocky-looking! So redid Vader's, I used the shape of the actual plastic blade as the white core of the saber (as unsung seems to have done), and then the new saber made the lighting look funny, so the lighting is a little more reddish now... Also fixed some of the squifee edges, especially on the stormtrooper commander... Also between the commanders legs the background from the original pic was still there, so I fixed that... So I think this
is the final version, hopefully the best (of the ones I made I mean)...

Jackpot you took a totally different but very cool approach....No wonder Qui Gon never stood a chance against Maul because his light saber was so blinding...

very, very, cool. It almost looks like these aren't even figures. Very nicely done.
