According to my computer clock, Thor's helmet went up at 10:05 and Luke went up at 11:59 so there's a bit of inconsistancy in the posting times.

On the other hand, I had no problem at all with slowdown or server issues. I was refreshing Luke for the hell of it until he sold out 3 minutes later and it never once bogged down.

Yeah - I was waiting and refreshing, my friend on MSN was also on a killer University connection - but I got one and he didn't - he got the message that it was sold out at 3 minutes past!

Imagine selling 100 things in 3 minutes or less! And it was only THAT slow because you have to load a few pages!

Well it looks good, I hope I can find a nice place to show it! I have Vader on order too so they will look awesome together :D

Is there anybody who got a Luke through the newsletter link? I am wondering because that was the link I was refreshing, and it never came up. I eventually went back to the main Comic Con page of the SS site and clicked on Luke to see that he was indeed sold out. The product page where Luke was being sold was a DIFFERENT address than the one brought up by clicking the newsletter link. Can anyone explain/clarify this? Thanks!

06-08-2005, 09:14 AM
So my next question...what are your chances of getting one through the waiting list? And how long until you would know for sure? I have a regular Luke preordered and was going to cancel that one in favor of the exclusive. I can't afford to have regular Luke ship and then get exclusive Luke later. Right now, it doesn't look like prices on e(vil)bay are very high for Luke, and I might not even break even that way. Any advice?

I guess I should take this to the "No Luke" thread where I belong...

RichPG
06-08-2005, 09:20 AM
No Luke for me :rolleyes

Refreshed bang on when luke came up (had main page & e-mail pages just in case) was slow as hell to load, got through to order page & in basket, clicked order & oops sold out.....

My IT (broadband) couldn't have done the job any faster. I've yet to see anyone from the UK post a success with Luke.

I'm on the wait list, but not holding my breath...:puke

There is a procedure to getting one everytime (I'm 4 for 4 so far, that can't be all luck).

Yes I see, the foolproof procedure appears to include being in the USA though! Even a poorly manned phoneline beat the servers ability to take 100+ orders at once & Europeans got mega slow down.

elwood49
06-08-2005, 12:44 PM
Yes I see, the foolproof procedure appears to include being in the USA though!

OK here's the procedure for you to try:

1. Visit the Sideshow site: Log in to your account BEFORE you hit the purchase button so as not to waste time.

2. Open a second browser and visit the Sideshow site again through the link provided in the newsletter for the piece you want.

3. Copy and paste the link from browser #2 to browser #1. Now you can skip the step of logging in after you purchase.

4. Begin Refreshing about 3 minutes before the hour. Some have come up early.

5. Click "purchase" button when it comes up.

6. Click "submit order" as fast as possible after that.

7. Make sure you're on the fastest connection possible so that the refreshing happens quickly.

I figure many of those that are able to get the exclusive Luke will cancel their order for the regular Luke. I actually had a second Luke on order but cancelled it with the chance at getting the exclusive from the waitlist.

Many of the earlier cancellations were from prospectors and not collectors. Luke seems to be the least desired piece and not demanding a very high secondary market value, so alor of people are cancelling before they lose any money.

I'll be attending SDCC next month so I managed to get luke easily and I am more than likely not going to keep him...before anyone goes ballistic on me, no, I am not looking to make a profit...Since I missed out on the exclusive vader, I'll likely be looking to trade exclusive luke for exclusive vader, but I won't make a final decision until I see exclusive luke in person...so how this sound to all of you, would this be a fair trade?

I cancelled regular luke since I will be picking up the exclusive at comic con next month...

elwood49
06-14-2005, 09:14 PM
Now, do we cancel or get both?

That's the real dilemma. I've mentioned this before, but I love how with the Vader and Grievous figures you get something extra with the exclusive. There is only a need to buy one version. SW completists will need to order both Lukes and Hans to get the full collection.

I've got both Lukes on order, and I'm keeping both for now. I'm thinking I will put one in my office and keep one at home. If the exclusive did not have the binoculars attached to the hand, then I would just get that one. You could just remove the poncho and hat, and it would be the regular Luke.

The binoculars in the hand don't fit in the scene that the regular Luke is from, and it would bother me for the piece to be that way. That's why I'm getting both......for now. One may be put on Ebay in the future if funds/space problems occur.

hmacedo
06-14-2005, 09:26 PM
How do you know that the exclusive has the binoculars attached to the hand? This is the first I hear of this...have you seen pictures of this figure that others have not? As far as I knew the only difference between the regular and exclusive are the poncho, hat, and goggles...:dunno

dstephan
06-14-2005, 10:31 PM
We have it on good authority that the binoculars are attached to the hand on the exclusive. Just take my word for it...

jesseawilson
06-14-2005, 11:58 PM
I will get the exclusive only. The reason I am getting this piece at all is because they fixed the kung fu grip with the binocs. I will display him without hat and pancho, so exactly like the reg one but with the "hand full".

Jesse

Fritz

I'm now thinking of keeping the regular and selling the exclusive. I don't like the binoculars in the hand on the exclusive, since it isn't accurate to the twin suns scene. Normally I would rather go for the better looking piece that isn't movie accurate (as in Grievous Ex.), but I don't think I will in this case.

The scene when Luke stands on that famous berm in Ep. IV is my favorite moment in SW. He longs for adventure and excitement, which is exactly what SW has always meant to me. It's about leaving the normal boring world you live in and dreaming of the possibilities that exist elsewhere.

I wish I could keep the poncho though. :p

Gazmog
06-23-2005, 08:48 AM
I don't like the binoculars in the hand on the exclusive, since it isn't accurate to the twin suns scene.

I don't think it's meant to be a depiction of him looking at the twin suns, even though they included the same base, but instead a representation of him as seen in a couple of deleted scenes.

So, Luke has been delayed a week? I didn't get a notice since I'm buying him from a store in town. SO when is the projected dates of arrival then?

Yeah, I know that the exclusive is actually from the deleted scene and not the twin suns scene. I should have said that I was hoping that the exclusive could be displayed as from the deleted scene, and also from the twin suns scene when the poncho and hat were removed.

The binoculars in the hand keeps me from displaying it accurately as coming from the twin suns scene when the accessories are removed and that's what I meant.

Elwood,

I am with you on this one. That is one of my favorite scenes from ANH and I feel the Sideshow Luke is from that moment.

I will have the regular version set up in my display room.

I will also be keeping the exclusive version and will figure out something to do with it..... :)

For display purposes, I do not see how anyone would choose the exclusive over the standard.

I do like the poncho but the exclusive Luke does not resemble ANH Luke like the regular version does...

Maybe I will display the exclusive and just "change it up" every now and then...hmmm...

Hmm, oooookay. Kind of begs the question: why order it?

I do like the poncho but the exclusive Luke does not resemble ANH Luke like the regular version does...

The exclusive Luke is not, and will not, be ANH Luke, so technically it is not the preferred representation of Luke. The regular version, as you say, is what we're accustomed to.

Your point is like saying "I'm going to avoid buying the McQuarrie Hasbro Stormtrooper because it's not what was seen on film, and will look odd in my collection." :p

To each his own, as Mr. Campos likes to say. :D

Actually that was the 100 non-attendee exclusive Lukes that sold out in less than 5 minutes. The attendee alottment actually took a few days to completely sell out.

I figure people cancelling regular orders to get the exclusive does have a lot to do with it, but the regular has actually been available for quite some time. It has been offered repeatedly on second chance offers and still available from other retailers. Not sure why old Luke's not getting the love the other pieces are getting. Maybe people are waiting on a Jedi Luke and can't afford to have more one version. :dunno

I would certainly be interested in those protective cases.

Mini Rock

hairlesswookiee, any one of the blasters would be a great addition to any collection IMO. I really like the Stormie blaster even if the trigger doesn't work; it's very big and very heavy. If you can snag one for a good price, go for it. There's no doubt in my mind you wouldn't be happy with it.

jesse, here are the dimensions for the cases I have so far:

Chewie - 12"w X 10"d X 16"h
3-PO - 9"w X 9"d X 13"h
Vader - 17"w X 12"d X 17"h (mine is 18x12x18 but is a little big)
Sandtrooper on Dewback - 18"w X 12"d X 14"h

The large case to hold all of the GG maquette's is 18"w X 14"d X 12"h, and the individual case for Yoda is 5"w X 5"d X 7"h and Asajj is 6"w X 6"d X 12"h.

I haven't bought individual cases for the other three maquettes, but I did take measurements to have ready for when I did. The measurement for the OWK is 9"w X 7"d X 11"h, ARC Trooper 6"w X 7"d X 9"h, and Padme 6"w X 6"d X 9"h. I think that is all of them. If there are any other's you need, just let me know. :)

Gazmog, I get all of my cases from www.casesforcollectibles.com; (http://www.casesforcollectibles.com;) some they will have on their site and some are special order. They are very nice and usually get back to you within a business day.

Again, thank you for the compliments, and the warm welcome guys. :)

Well I got a 5 - 7 day notice on Luke, says they will authorize card within 24 hours. Guess they got it back on schedule. This seems to be more in line with the original notice instead of the 1 week delay notice. :banana

ShelobsPrey
07-06-2005, 12:55 AM
Personally I think the binoculars in hand is a small issue - remove the hat and poncho and it's basically the same. I can live with it (if I manage to get one...).

Once the uber-super-duper-lacious, better than ever before with knobs on 30th anniversary DVD boxset hits the shelves in 2007 we'll all be able to see the deleted scenes. My guess is the exclusive will become even more desirable (and displayable) then...

Viking28

The exclusive Luke is not, and will not, be ANH Luke, so technically it is not the preferred representation of Luke. The regular version, as you say, is what we're accustomed to.

My biggest thing with the regular version was how his right hand looked. It just looks awkward. SO I prefer the exclusive because it sounds like it will actually look better. But if I wasnt getting the exclusive I would still get Luke.

Does anyone have any thoughts on PF Luke?

tomandshell
02-25-2006, 08:43 PM
I think he is awesome. He was my very first Premium Format figure from Sideshow. I picked him up at Comic Con last year and carried the box around with me all day long--it was a real labor of love.

I was a little nervous about opening him up since I had seen some pictures that made him look like he was wearing dark eye shadow. Thankfully, mine was just fine. The paint job was great, and I think the likeness is amazing. His clothes are just a little dirty like they should be, and the whole thing really looks like Luke stepped off the screen and onto my shelf.

The base is also great--nice size, weight, and texture. In my opinion, he got the Star Wars 1/4 scale line off to a magnificent start, and considering how easy it has been to find him at a significantly reduced price I would recommend him to anyone who is interested and loves the character.

I am one who loves the pose and version chosen. Other would like to see a Jedi Luke, but I think that this piece captures a very iconic and representative moment from the classic film and shrinks it down so you can put it on your shelf. Assuming you get a good paint job like I did, this could easily be a favorite piece for many Star Wars collectors. I know it's a favorite of mine.

By the way, while I have the exclusive version, I have settled on displaying him without the poncho and hat.

Daveyjaro
02-25-2006, 08:48 PM
Are you talking about regular edition or Comic Con Exclusive with poncho?

The regular edition can be had for a great price on ebay, if I had the extra space and cash, I'd be there.

Vader AL
02-25-2006, 09:03 PM
I like the option of having the poncho and hat/goggles for a little extra. i love the pose and was thinking about putting myself on the wait list for the exclusive. i will not buy from ebay because i don't trust getting what i pay for and what if something is wrong with it? i'd rather pay full price and know what i'm getting or know it will be corrected or my money back.

Daveyjaro
02-25-2006, 09:21 PM
I understand, better to get from Sideshow. But the Wait list for Poncho Luke is rough, I was on the wait list for something like 6 months and nothing. I think it is gone... however, I see him on ebay every now and then and it is cheap. So far, the Star Wars PF line is not like Sideshow Weta LOTR. No huge explosion in value, in fact, ebay is less.

And... speaking of wait lists, someone said anyone can pretty much get a Star Wars PF figure because many people cancel. It is true! I went on the Wait list for Vader SSE 2 weeks ago, it is sitting in front of me now. The only wait lists I think are impossible are Poncho Luke and Solo SSE.

Vader AL
02-25-2006, 09:32 PM
i put myself on the wait list on 2/15 and on 2/16 it was turned into an order. that was for the vader pf excl. not complaining though and i don't care about the value because i'll never sell them. but it is nice to see the value go up.

The Josh
02-25-2006, 09:34 PM
The PF Luke is my least fave of the line so far. I just wasn't that jazzed about it when I saw it at SDCC last summer. It's not a bad piece but just wasn't one that made me say I want it.

Daveyjaro
02-25-2006, 09:46 PM
For me I have to really be impressed by a PF figure to order it. They are just too costly and take up alot of space to get them all. I cannot be a Star Wars PF line completionist. I think the wait lists are being fulfilled because people order to reserve, item goes SOLD OUT, and then when it is released the flood of cancellations occur. I think if anyone wants to buy a Obi, Leia or Grievous, get on the wait list, I would bet you will get it.

Yeah, value is only really important if you may sell one day. If you know that will never happen then it makes no difference. I will tell you that the fact that Star Wars PF figures including exclusives are low in value on ebay will encourage people trying to make a buck to cancel their orders, which frees up wait list orders for those that want them. Good thing.

How tall are these PF statues?

They are 1/4 scale and vary between 16 and 23 inches. They are quite big & you need lots of space to display a number of them together.

The good thing about them is that the heads / faces are substantially bigger than 1/6 and manage to capture more detail IMO.

The real cloth tailoring is usually excellent, but obviously they would benefit from being enclosed behind glass to protect them.

Any statue would benefit being enclosed in some type of case. That damn dust is a collectible killer!

They do take up a ton of space though. The acrylic case for my Vader alone is 18x18x24 and the one for Grievous will be even bigger.

As for Luke, I think it's the weakest of the three released so far; but, that is not to say it is a bad statue since it is by far the best representation of Luke Skywalker released in statue form so far. No other statue even comes close.

Luke became my guide to the PF world as well, and I must say it has been an impressive journey thus far. Everything about him just screamed quality to me, the packaging is downright amazing (though Vader does not share quite the same praise), the sculpt the tailoring - it all is incredible.

I personally prefer Luke to Han (though I don't yet have Vader), I feel that the moment that is captured by the piece is one of the most iconic and relatable from the entire trilogy. As was mentioned, paintjob determining, this is one phenomenal piece.

(ps I think this is my karma balancing out for paying my newbie payment of $108 for reg. 1:6 Luke so long ago...). ;)

Luke really is great, assuming your's will have the right eye paint. I really prefer the way that both Luke and Han were packaged as well, that thick foam just adds to the PF experience.

Grats again!

I just won a PF Luke for $112. The guys rating is low (98%) but he has only had 1 negative in the last year and the guy who gave it to him appears to have been a bung-hole anyway - so that may be why he was an easy snatch. He has also done a ton of transactions with positive, so I have no worried (pretty much).

A big plus to me is also that he lives in Provo, which is only 30 minutes south of me!
:rock :blissy :rock2

Funny, you may have gotten a PF Luke for less than the 1/6 Jedi Luke.

Where is the purple turtle? I've lived here in Provo for 3 years and haven't heard of it. And who is this guy? I thought I was the only Sideshow collector in Provo...wish I had known about it lol........

Maybe the four of us UT freaks (MortirConn [sic] is from Utah as well) can all get together and check it out! he he (

The seller is actually similiar to you Cap. He has one address as Provo and the other is in Cali. So hopefully he is in Provo right now. If I have to pay shipping it will be $137.50/ But that is still a good deal I suppose.

Apparently he registered on eBay while he was at BYU, but he now practices law in Sacremento. He seems like a cool guy and I told him that he should join the Freaks. :rock2 (we should still all get together and check out the Purple Turtle).

That's an amazing deal; I don't have any PF figures, but if I did I would be ALL OVER that Obi-Wan figure....someday I'll have the cash..........

I think he is awesome. He smells nothing like a 1:6 fig, which surprised me for some reason. The detail (especially on those binocs) is pretty amazing. I'm not sure if it has won me over to the PF side though... I dunno. I think he seems alittle lonely without the others... So.. hmmm.... What to do... What to do?

I have all the PFs so far, and I would have to say Luke ranks 6th out of the 6. It's not that I don't like him, it's just that I like the others more. My first was Vader, and he had me hooked right away.

Don't worry about the hands, Pix. Just tell them that the hands on Michelangelo's David are also far out of proportion, and if Michelangelo can do it, anybody can. Big hands? The master artist himself did it! So there! That'll teach them!

He looks great Pix!

I passed on the General as I just am not crazy about the character in the movie so I won't count him in my rankings

1. Vader
2. Leia
3. Ben
4. Luke
5. Han

Well if i have to do a rankings it will be for me :

1 - Darth Vader
2 - Princesse Leai Exclusive
3 - General Grievous Exclusive
4 - Obi Wan Kenobi
5 - Han Solo
6 - Luke Skywalker.

The Exclusive edition of Leia and Grievous are awesome.

I would like to find an Exclusive version of Luke but i don't find it yet.
Well i live in France so it won't be easy.... :D

Hey there fellow members,

I just purchased the first Premium Format Luke Skywalker from "A New Hope." I am not sure if I am just lame when it comes to using the search function, but I can't find a proper review of this piece. Anyone here have a link whether on this board or other giving a proper review, or anyone here own one with some thoughts?

Thanks!

In general, if you have trouble finding written impressions of a statue it's easiest to check Youtube and see if there are any video reviews.
Here's a video I found.

There's no talking or impressions in this one, but it does give a good idea of what the piece looks like in person.

Unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan. The likeness isn't great and the pose is a little odd. I hate how the hands seem to just be hanging tensely in mid-air. If they were trying to evoke the scene of Luke staring at the sunset, they should have made the sculpt be stooped over more and allow his hand to actually rest on his thigh.

The Jedi Luke PF is a much better piece, in my opinion.

Jedi Luke's FACE is better than the ANH one, but the pose is just god awful and couldn't bare to buy it. Sadly it was one of my most desired PFs to have, but when they released the images of that I gasped "WHAT???!!!!" They could have picked a much more fitting pose. And Jedi Luke almost ALWAYS had both hands on his saber hilt.

Neither Luke has just jumped out and said buy me. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe if SSC comes out with Luke in X-wing gear I will get him. Hoth Luke would be awesome too. There are just some many cool versions they could do for Luke and the two they have done already just make me go meh!!! Not yet. I'm still waiting for Luke to enter my collection. If I would break for either two that are released already I would definitely go for Jedi Luke though, definitely the better of the two IMO.

Sorry to necro this thread, but I was looking at this thing for the first time since it was first released and I am shocked at how bad it looks compared to what my memory of it was. The head looks nothing like Luke and is enormous, and is it me or are the legs way too short?

Does anybody on here own this? If so what are your thoughts now that it is years later and SS has had time to try and refine their sculpting?

To me, this thing looks almost as bad as the Ultimate Unison figure, I guess I just expected more out of a Premium Format. Given that this is such an iconic moment from Star Wars, maybe it might not be a bad idea for a redo.

I agree. I never bought this one or any of the Luke PF's for that matter. I couldn't put my finger on why I didn't have a Luke in my collection yet but I just chalk it up to waiting for a Luke in X-wing gear.

I own it, I like it. It may not be for someone who feels they must own the latest and greatest, but, it represents an iconic scene from the original with, in my opinion, a likeness as good as most, as far as capturing Mark's features.
I mean honestly, how may Luke figures/statues have ever been dead on?

Mandible

I own it too and couldn't be happier.

I did one mod - I had another tunic made... in white, without the seams on the arms, and a closer material to the original.

I can't understand how someone can rip the likeness; it's not perfect but it captures a reasonable likeness and has the right "feel" - especially of Ep4 before Hamill had his car accident.

Maybe it's just the pictures, but when I saw the one on the previous page, I thought it looked nothing like Hamill (first thing I thought of was The Crow). Does it look a lot better in hand?

I might have to eat my words, those photo's don't look half bad. I've researched this figure for quite some time because I think it's a great pose but for some reason every pic. I come across is just bad representation I guess. I may have to start considering this one again.

I like it. Here's mine. I don't think the head or the hands are too big. The hands might look too big in photos, but it is probably because they are much closer to the lens.

I think the biggest problem with that sculpt is the eyes, the nose and mouth are both off as well, but in the pics, the eyes are glaringly wrong.

Not to mention that he looks cross eyed as well.

Yeah, it definitely is far from perfect, but we will probably never get another ANH Luke, and you kind of need him if you are a SW PF collector. Probably doesn't deserve all the hate it gets, as it looks better in person.
