Yep, those are the only 2 I have, just sticking with these 3 pieces with the LSB's..........It kinda sucks I dont like the life size spidey cause having all 3 lsb's, life size pieces, and comiquettes of spidey, venom and carnage would be sick. I hope the comiquette has the same eyes as this spidey. When they start making Predator lsb's, I might be in trouble though :sick

Hulksmashed
04-12-2010, 09:17 AM
The funny part is that I doubt people would be quite so upset about the carved lines had Sideshow not slipped up and put the better looking raised line statue up for a sneak peek first!

I mean, honestly, the carved lines look decent, but the raised line version just looked sooooo much better. Just makes you wonder why they would have promo pics for both....In other words, the raised line version must have been the original concept. Possibly an issue with mass production of the raised line peice?

Maybe China had problems getting thier lead/mercury paint sticking to the raised ridges? :huh

Well, I thought SS was actually going to listen to the comments, because there were 4-5+ comments about the raised vs. carved lines, including my own, which surprised me that it made it on there at all. Not anymore. All edited out now <...poof...>

The SS 1:1 Spidey Bust isn't bad at all. While it would've been better with the raised lines (would've gave a more lifelike appearance than what was given), it's still a decent bust in it's own right.

After the long time to compare the 2 pics,
may be it's just the camera's angle
but I think the raised line looks like the Movie ver. (longer face)
And the new one looks like the comic ver. (rounder face)

still I preferred the raised line version either longer face or rounder face :rotfl

not bad, my biggest gripe about the 1:1 besides the carved lines, was the fact that the lines were painted with a faint black and they didnt even paint all the lines in the first place. I may order, and wait and see..........still on the fence, but I like the eyes as well.

As a reminder, whenever any non-time-sensitive questions regarding production and choices in the art direction come up (such as some that I've seen in this thread), feel free to submit them to 'Ask Sideshow' - they will answer what they can! If there's no surface raise from the black outline to the white eyes I suppose I could thicken the black line. It's way too thin.

Totally....

What about how cheap the actual shipping boxes have become - flimsy material (bordering on pathetic) and easily penetrable...
Around 90% (and I am not exaggerating here...) of the items I receive nowadays from SS have serious gouges/rips in the cheap shipping boxes that allow dents or holes/rips in the packaging inside. Doesn't matter if it's a 12", PF, or 1:1 bust. :(

The repetition of this happening, especially knowing what I spend with SS, leaves me with a negative feeling. It really gets agitating when you spend $500 for a bust. Even worse when it's $800. You can't invest in an a better box for such an expensive item? Fine - pass the expense onto me, just go back to the boxes you were using just even 7-8 months ago. After all, these are "museum quality" pieces, please pack and ship them as such.

I want a representation of Spidey from his glory days. Is that too difficult to understand. Bowen has done a few. Why can't Sideshow? Especially to sit alongside the classic versions of Thor, DD and Cap. This lsb is not McFarlanesque (thank God) but it's a little less Romita too.

Give me a DITKO Spider-Man any day of the week please! And if you can't do that, a Romita one will do just fine, thank you, Sideshow......
Sideshow? Anybody there?

I would never buy a spiderman representation that looked like this. I don't think a whole bunch of many other people would either. Some, yes, but not many.

:lecture I think Buzzy should just stick with Bowen. The eye size and shape is perfect: not too retro, not too McFarlane.

I dont see a big difference between this LSB and that picture........some of you guys are way too picky :monkey1 The pf, the 1:1 life size, this LSB, the BIB/IMS and prolly the comi too will all have a different look to them. They all have had a different interpretation to his look, mask wise anyways.................Ordered Ex for now

And I'm glad the LSB doesnt look like that bowen statue. That Spider-man logo looks horrible.

I agree with the board member that wanted more of a Ditko'esque Spidey bust. This is like a Romita Jr design, which isn't bad, but c'mon Ditko is the king when it comes to Spidey. I ordered it anyway to accompany the Black Cat.

Scribed webbing = comic book version
Raised webbing = movie version

That was my thought at first too. But I'm not sure that's quite right. In the comics, I always got the impression that the lines were drawn on to the material of the costume. So the lines would not be scribed or raised.

yeah it's kinda risky for ssc to be announcing this one before the BIB one has even shipped. they should know that there's going to be a lot of cancellations of the BIB in favor of this version.

Yeah my handwritten crayon cardboard cutout nameplate just doesn't cut it!! People walk up to my collection look at it and say 'who's he? he's Spidermon?'

Luckily I have a Spidey colored baseball bat nearby to hit them on the head with. hmm, maybe that's why I spelt it wrong in the first place. That why I always like the Jamaican spellin'.

All Ironlungs' pics did is make me want a spidey comiquette in the same pose as the BiB and Iron look. Damn. The piece looks fantastic, definitely one of the best but I'm bowed out of the LSB line for awhile now.

way to much stuff hitting right now means lsbs get cancelled. not here though.:nana:

I was one of those who cancelled, mostly due to the design (or lack of). I preferred the raised webbing look and besides I have the 1:1 Ross Spider-man bust.
Glad to be of assistance.

Looks good, but I hope they're not reusing the sculpt from the back in black one. The back in black looked weird in different angles.

Nah, head is in the opposite direction and the torso is slightly different as well from what I can tell.

Mine just came, tiny tiny box. Overall its a nice piece, but it seems a little on the small side, I guess I'm just use to huge pieces now. This is a tiny white dot on mine's cheek, but overall its very nice! I got it to compliment the comiquette, should look nice together.

Got mine last night. I will fix the eyes and give them a classic look. There's too much white of the eyes showing. This needs to match my other classic lsb's, Thor, Cap, Thing and DD.

Thanks,

BB

...and there are plenty of Exclusives still up for sale.

I'll never understand the draw of the exclusives of this line. I think they are far more refined looking without the cartoonish name of the character set in front of them. It's like people know who that character is, so do I. Do I really need a name plate to trash it up and distract from the art?

It's like those people that buy a truck, or mustang...and on the rear window put a giant decal that says CHEVY or FORD real big. Like we know what your driving, no need to label it and ruin it even more so there champ.

So that's my theory as to why the exclusives are still sitting there and why I think of them as tacky.

Sometimes the name plate can complement a collection if you are displaying 2 or 3 of the same character on a single shelf.

Hey everybody,

Got my exclusive last thursday, looks great!

Now for an important question:

Where would it look good to have this autographed by Stan Lee?

He's coming here to FanExpo in Toronto, and I'm debating on getting it autographed.

Anybody got any good ideas for a good location on it to have it autographed?

Cheers, Carl
